To be fair (I hate to say it as we share the same opinion of her) they have upped their game with 53k yesterday
Edit - I tell a lie(ish), they didn’t post any numbers for the day before so average of c27k per day for past two days

Which is fair enough I just get pissed off with her approval ratings for making little tweaks to Johnson’s moves and being behind the rest of the UK on vaccines that Westminster procured ahead of anyone else

she’s a sneaky one (a good ‘politician’ in that sense). She has chosen to apply slightly stricter measures all the way through (knowing public opinion supports her....and the UK will probably pick up the tab)

Their conduct is just making me cringe now to be honest. I know people (rightly) said if Johnson broke the WA it would damage our reputation internationally (although I think we all felt it was probably a negotiation tactic)... I think their current conduct is that multiplied by ten (let’s hope it’s also only a negotiation tactic and not implemented ie exports stopped)
The fact is whichever side of the brexit debate we were all on their our nearest neighbours and ultimately we should all be on the same side. I think they will regret this but ultimately as I’ve alluded to earlier I think maybe there is more at play/stake here ie look at the spread of the vaccines across the EU countries, it’s not been an equal split so far

I don't think anyone is shocked at that. Every country is of course acting in their best interests. But every country is struggling to get the amount of doses they ordered and they aren't all storming into manufacturing facilities or trying to block doses reaching other countries.

That's fair enough, but if they've signed a piss poor contract with AZ which is unenforceable, they should not be using legislation to otherwise restrain AZ's ability to export its goods. It is a massive overreach.
Im more concerned if they stop exports of Pfizer that again, other nations acquired ahead of them.
This could unravel badly. Let’s just hope they see sense and don’t actually stop any vaccines being exported

Protectionism as I said the act of seeking to limit imports to "protect" manufacturers of a country i.e. Trump increasing tariffs on Chinese imports.
The EU are seeking to limited exports not imports.

It’s because it’s not fucking lockdown. Although schools in general are not open to majority of students the average for Primary is anywhere between 30% and 50% depending on region (I have school colleagues that send their kids into school even though they work at home every day bar one day in 2 weeks) Shit employers are forcing their employees into the office for no good reason. Not to mention public transport being packed in certain places/times and it may go to explain the stubbornness of the positive cases.

The EU regs being drawn up to block exports have to be enacted at the discretion of a member state. I doubt very much an individual state would be as silly so as to apply it.

TBH case numbers got so high, 81k by specimen date on 29th Dec, so with R around or just below 1 it is going to take some time for that number to fall

Its not even just down to shit employers, its down to parents who can't be bothered to look after their own kids.
We had a team meeting yesterday and several people who are working from home 100% of the time spoke about how their kids were in nursery or school as they'd managed to get their partner classed as an essential worker and apparently it only needs one parent to qualify.

Does anyone really see them going through with the threat to block exports. Imagine you're the country whose order is blocked because the EU want to jump the queue, are you just going to shrug your shoulders and say OK. Look what happened when there was even a rumour that India was planning to do similar, huge pressure was put on them and they very quickly had to come out and say it wouldn't happen.
People definitely playing the game this time (not going to point fingers as it can’t be easy for anyone). The key workers list is ridiculous which is governments fault

Undoubtedly but do think it'd be slow regardless. There were 81542 cases by specimen date as of 29th Dec. 29544 last Fridaym (22nd Jan) which is a reduction of 63% in 24 days.
Look at the data from the first proper lockdown, 7th April peak at 5437. It wasn't until 17th May that cases dropped by 63% from that figure.
That said, not a particularly exact science as the acuity of the cases in the numbers from the first peak is entirely different to those from the second.
