Does anyone really see them going through with the threat to block exports. Imagine you're the country whose order is blocked because the EU want to jump the queue, are you just going to shrug your shoulders and say OK. Look what happened when there was even a rumour that India was planning to do similar, huge pressure was put on them and they very quickly had to come out and say it wouldn't happen.

Hopefully unlikely. Wouldn’t put it past macron if he’s under pressure

Do you think it not being a proper lockdown will drag this along further?

Undoubtedly but do think it'd be slow regardless. There were 81542 cases by specimen date as of 29th Dec. 29544 last Fridaym (22nd Jan) which is a reduction of 63% in 24 days.

Look at the data from the first proper lockdown, 7th April peak at 5437. It wasn't until 17th May that cases dropped by 63% from that figure.

That said, not a particularly exact science as the acuity of the cases in the numbers from the first peak is entirely different to those from the second.

Sorry - for the over 65s he says "Everything suggests that it is almost ineffective for those over 65, and some say over 60..."

Just googled. WTF !!! Nobody has said it’s ineffective previously, just not enough data (even EMA said protection is expected). Germany and Frances response is unusual to say the least, either they know something we don’t or there are other things at play here

From Politico.

PARIS — French President Emmanual Macron said Friday the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine appeared to be “quasi-ineffective” on people older than 65 — just hours before the EU’s drugs regulator approved it for use on all adults.

“The real problem on AstraZeneca is that it doesn’t work the way we were expecting it to,” Macron told a group of reporters, including POLITICO, in Paris. “We’re waiting for the EMA [European Medicines Agency] results, but today everything points to thinking it is quasi-ineffective on people older than 65, some say those 60 years or older.”

Later in the day, the EMA gave the vaccine the green light. It said: “There are not yet enough results in older participants (over 55 years old) to provide a figure for how well the vaccine will work in this group. However, protection is expected, given that an immune response is seen in this age group and based on experience with other vaccines; as there is reliable information on safety in this population, EMA’s scientific experts considered that the vaccine can be used in older adults.”

I'm struggling with the fuss they're making over supply if they don't think it's any good.

Always worries me when no deaths are announced on John Hopkins

brother in laws dad and friend from church both in itu at uhcw

Friend from church wife died last week heart attack after severe Covid. Praying their kids don’t lose both mum and dad in a fortnight

only mid 50’s. Kids in their 20’s bless them

Feeling emotional

You're not alone mate, remember that. They'll be people everywhere being able to empathise and sypathise with everything you just said.

Just gotta keep our heads up a bit longer. Before you know it we'll be back in the stadium having a beer and booing the referee.

fortunately so far none of the silly rhetoric we heard surrounding the fishing industry, gun boats in channel etc.
Time for the government to keep cool heads and act the grown ups for once while the EU make an absolute arse of it.

Keeping this vaccine roll out on track is the most important thing.

Apparently the Republic unhappy with the EU's handling as well

Exactly what I was thinking Clint. No need to get drawn into it all unless there is an actual export ban.

Yes they really don't need to do anything. This is an open goal for them, just incredible PR for them without having to do anything.

Wouldn't be surprised though if they get greedy and tried to get even more out of it and do end up getting dragged into it.

No just thought it was worth pointing out that the DUP are kicking off about something they've been trying for weeks.

Wouldn't expect anything else from those hypocritical weasels though.

They were trying to get a block on vaccines reaching Britain through NI? Eh?
