Do you want to discuss boring politics? (99 Viewers)

I think the difference is though the people that follow the tories on the whole aren't plastering their bullshit opinions all over social media .
Surely you aren’t being serious here?

I think Labour lost the working class in the last election because of Brexit.

Partly because of Corbyn, but mostly because of Brexit.

Actually I don't think that's why they lost the working class, I know it is. It's pretty indisputable.

Brexit was a huge issue for the working class and the Tories was obviously the choice for anyone who wanted Brexit.

Of course they are now being utterly shafted by leaving the EU, but that's a different conversation.

I agree that Brexit was a big factor in the 2019 election. For most people, myself included, Brexit is over now... we move on. It may not seem like that, if you are one of the minority who cannot let go, but I think it's true for most of people we are discussing.

So why are they continuing to lose votes in 2021? That's the question.

Ofcourse I am , social media on the whole is very much dominated by younger people .

Younger people mostly vote for Labour.

Labour supporters mostly spewing their opinions on social media ...pretty straightforward

The older someone is the more likely they are to vote Tory.

The further into education someone goes the more likely they are to vote Labour.

Dress it up how you like, they are facts.

You are not really answering my question

Is 39 old?

Why given the fact age means increased likelihood of voting Tory is that? Also what the correlation between the two subjects?

More importantly does a better education make you more qualified to lead the country - if not it’s just an irrelevance to sneer at isn’t it?

Labour needs to spilt. And then one of the 2 parts can merge with the Lib Dems.

Not going to happen any time soon. Neither side wants to lose a brand that has in the near recent past held government, especially when there are only two parties which could feasibly win.

Brexit is not over though is it. Far from it. Its an absolute cluster fuck that is destroying trade and businesses. But that's for the other thread.

It's over for the majority of Brexit voters who let's be honest didn't know what they were voting for. They think it's done. They don't care about what is happening now. But for anyone who does more than just read the Express its clear that Brexit is not over. But again, that's for the other thread.

As for why they are losing votes now, I'd say it's the vaccine bounce. That is way more important and impactful than anti wokery stuff.

No - social media is split generally, with different age categories occupying different platforms. So while your younger voters are more likely to use Instagram for example, the older voters are far more concentrated on Facebook.

Same stuff happens on both platforms. Twitter is a bit of a microcosm of the both, and doesn’t really give you an overall picture of social media as a whole.

I'm not sure what your point is.

You said those two points are fallacies.

They're not.

My point is at 39 you are more likely to vote Tory than Labour

My point on education is essentially it’s the same correlation as young people are more likely to have attended university

A lot of young people in this category then allied themselves by their own definition to a leader of a party who is thick as fuck and thought he’d be able to leafs the country

This isn't really true

The largest demographic on all social media platforms is pretty much 25 -34

The vast majority of social media use is people below the age of 50 .

Most tory voters are (in our own words ) older .

There will be less conservative voters on social media discussing politics .
Twitter itself is basically an echo chamber of activism .

Most young people use Snapchat, tik tok ....again all can be used and are to push political nonsense.

That’s a tough one. I think personally it’s down to a combination of the current government being pretty untouchable at the moment for delivering Brexit (if only in name) and also an excellent vaccination drive. But I also think it’s because Labour don’t appear to stand for anything currently. You say about the Islington voter not being the same as the Hartlepool one, and I agree, but neither one really knows now what Labour is about. They’ve missed opportunities over things like NHS staff pay by not being more vocal and in opposition to the paltry government offer.
Labour are losing voters in the 25-39 age bracket currently according to YouGov. Why this is I don’t know.... it can’t be attributed to Corbyn as there were literally the people that voted for him that have now turned away.

That is true. However the second point does not imply that more intelligent people vote Labour... indeed it's almost the same point as the first. This is why: In the 1950s, circa 3% of people had access to higher education. That had only risen to 10% by the 80s. These are your older, Tory-voters.

In the 90s, on the back of Blair's changes and student loans, that rose steeply to over 50% in 2020. These are the young Labour voters. They are not more intelligent than the older voters, they have just had more opportunities to study. Moreover, of that 50%, a large proportion are studying vocational courses - because the traditional academic subjects would be beyond them.

EDIT: On the first point. This age-voting intention curve has been the same for decades. It's the same people voting Labour in their 20s who later vote Tory.

The older ones on Facebook are much more likely to believe bullshit. I've had to unfollow most of my older relatives cos I'm fed up of seeing the ridiculous shite they share/comment on.

Facebook is absolutely full of right leaning 50+ year olds now

The younger generations are moving away from Facebook and its very much the social media platform of choice for the boomers and they believe literally anything they reach on Facebook.

There are twice as many Facebook users in the UK than Twitter... but somehow it’s the smaller platform creating all the issues 🤔

Stating that more and more older people are using Facebook means I don't like people?

You just don't seem to like people very much.

I remember thinking exactly like this in my late teens and early 20s. I was as puritanical and condemning as they are now. Time...

Here's a joke I like.

When I was 20, I was ashamed at the stupidity and ignorance of my father. When I was 35 I was amazed at how much he'd learned in just 15 years.

You've posted the current figures which proves nothing.

I said younger people are not using Facebook as much and that older people are using it more.

Which is true.

"Since 2012, the 18 to 24 market has declined in prominence, when it comprised 24 percent of all users. In contrast, older users are now much more prominent on the site, with over 65s only 4 percent of users in 2012"

There are literally thousands of posts on twitter right now telling people if they vote conservatives then they are racist...idiots...thick....hate poor people... hate this hate that etc etc...same every election

Now I don't vote tory , but I'm not about to tell people that their vote means they are a wanker

He called Britain "this shit-hole of a country" earlier whilst he was telling me how dumb I am. It's a shame he deleted it.

It is a shit hole.

Rampant corruption in government while food Bank usage sky rockets.

If you think that's ok then good for you.
