Do you want to discuss boring politics? (248 Viewers)

There is definitely an attitude in this country of not wanting free stuff for yourself because you don't want other people to have free stuff.

People put a priority on making sure others don't get free stuff, even at the expense of themselves getting it.
There was a discussion on moving to a 4 day week on Radio 4 - this was pre-pandemic. One of the economists on there was from a Nordic country, can't remember which one, and couldn't get his head round why people were against improving things for others if they didn't directly benefit.

We had it on here recently with the discussion on WFH post covid. Some of those who have jobs where they can't WFH weren't happy that some peoples work / life balance (hate that phrase) might improve.

This isn't the Labour, or Corbyn, nationalise the railways plan anyway is it? This seems more like the taxpayer foots the bill for decades of under investment by franchisees but private companies still pocket the money just that they're now under a GBR branding rather than their individual companies.

I'd be amazed if this doesn't end up with more taxpayer money being handed over.

I've wondered for a while why we don't have two people both working three and a half days each as opposed to 1 person doing a 5 day week.

Similarly why we don't have three 8 hour shift patterns rather than a 9-5 ethos and then most things shut. In this day and age with global trade, technology and a much less prevalent religious reasoning I don't see why we don't have a 24/7 economy.

Is this a serious post?

Because invariably most WFH jobs are middle class or above.

Really interesting analysis on voter groups

Tl;dr: people with a mix of views (left wing socially/right wing economically or visa versa) both prioritise their conservative views over their progressive ones and often only holding one conservative view is enough to make them vote for the right.

She loves it, doesn't she? She's to immigration (old and new) what Tebbit was to workers.

I see she's having a go at the Beeb about not having done a thorough investigation over the Bashir i/v (though me thinks Princes are wrapping up all of their understandable press contempt on a single man/org); yet she was quick to close down any investigation into her bullying, in the process using using taxpayer's money for the payoff.

In the week stifled the release of the Daniel Morgan report the hypocrisy is breathtaking.

But then we're talking about a woman who wants to deny people the same refuge in this country her parents were afforded.

Bet she is a filthy bitch though.

Nah. You’d get her watch you wank as a birthday present and expect to be glad about it. She’s 100% that sort of woman who thinks sex is dirty and only does it under duress. No one with that level of moral disgust can be a decent shag.

It's going to be redacted to shit once she's finished with it.

And she'll probably do it while wearing that stupid police coat from the previous page to get an extra kick out of it.

Nah, if she is willing to let people die in the english channel she is going to do things to you that are probably illegal in most countries.

Not for me mate , just highlighting the state of play

Only way is up?

In all seriousness, being objective there’s a lot of temporary boosts in place for the Tories right now, we won’t vaccinate everyone and open the pubs and do Brexit and win an election every year.

If we’re still miles behind this time next year I might start taking the death of the party stuff seriously, but right now is a terrible time to make any long term judgments.

No that’s the Labour stance and is why no one votes for them anymore

I guess wrecking the industry of an entire region and then getting them to vote for you on the back of a 3 word slogan is good going. Then throwing in a few bribes as a 'reward' for voting for the party instead of spending money in these places for the last 10 years.

Funnily enough they'll only keep those votes if they govern as the Labour Party intends to each time

Yeah and they lost nearly all their Scottish seats in the process plus made no inroads in the communities she ruined. Just a few decades for that to be forgotten because an Etonian said 3 words and promised the economic investment that the left has been calling for all along

Only 2 Labour politicians have actually been elected as prime minister in the last 60 years haven’t they?

The one before that was privately educated

A neat sidestep G, but the main thing is people want more economic investment into their local areas not less, which up until Mr Johnson arrived the Conservative Party would keep telling us was 'the magic money tree'. Yet the party has been rewarded for ignoring these places for the past decade and ruining their local industries in the 80s.
