I’m talking in relative terms of responsibility - Johnson has all the powers and responsibility that they have.

His role should be paid a lot more, MPs generally are underpaid

We all know you have a sixth form approach to the monarchy but she isn’t attending g7 summits she’s opening a fete in Hastings

Heard the argument that they’re underpaid numerous times, and whilst on the face of it it’s correct, because of their expenses claims they actually get far more than their salary (ignoring the top-ups for ministerial positions). £80k per year AFTER all work-related costs (travel, accommodation, food, phones, etc.) ain’t a bad gig at all.

In fact, may have just talked myself into a career change.

She is the head of state though-do you accept being completely wrong on that one?

Anyone can shake hands and eat banquets in a palace. Only a complete and utter fool like Charles could screw it up

You know full well in terms of political state comparisons it’s the PM - Biden wouldn’t call the Queen he calls Johnson

Randomly you seem to be saying he should be paid loads more and live in the palace and enjoy the trappings of a monarch in a republican state

Mirror story about money to the very wealthy over the last year makes you weep. We really do need an alternative vision of a more just and fair future

Just went looking for this and stumbled upon another gem...

‘Priti Patel says ministers breaking rules not important as they’re doing “difficult jobs, actually”.’

Yep just representing a person who’s been dismissed for accessing computer details. Pretty sure if he was more senior or a member of the front bench he’d be told forget about it it will all blow over.

The point is they are the voice into parliament which runs the country so clearly a 6 figure salary with benefits and fixed salaries to employ staff office space etc

Obviously yes with Sultana as she is in the job. I’ve said before face to face she and Robinson’s replacement are pleasant and earnest enough but she needs to get away from this utter Corbynist nonsense

The more you pay people the irony is the less inherent wealth people will be elected as you’d get people from top business jobs who otherwise will not take a pay cut and live away from home for weeks on end

I have no problem with leaders being paid a high wage and agree with Grendel on this. I also think staff in the nhs deserve a pay rise that keeps their salary in line with inflation and worry that there are 400 vacancies which is 20% of the overall staffing of university hospital coventry. And can’t help thinking they may be linked

We shouldn’t be having council leaders being paid far more than the PM. Makes no sense. I’d have no issue with a PM getting £200k-£300k

No council leaders are paid more than the PM. You’re thinking of Chief Execs, who are civil servants and lots of civil servants earn more than the PM.

I think Grendel is getting confused because the PM isn’t our Head of State, all the benefits other Heads of State get go to the Queen.

If you want the PM to get gold toilets and butlers, you’re arguing for a republic.

When you look at Andy Street it’s so obvious he has been at the top of a private enterprise. Compare that to political career politicians who’ve occupied London and yes that includes Johnson

Agree with this Pete. If there’s huge numbers of vacancies in any sector/employer it either suggests there either isn’t the staff available or the wages aren’t enough. I think with nurses it’s the latter. Pretty much the whole country would support a decent rise for front line health workers, the government needs to pull their fingers out

Sorry, yeah, meant the chief execs

Ps points the same though, you can’t have them paid more than PM

Not if everyone supports their current actions

Personally considering they tend to do the actual running of services and councillors/MPs do a lot of pontificating and PR I’m happy with that.

A decent software developer can earn more than the PM, being PM shouldn’t be the best paid job in the country, I don’t think anyone would argue that. And we should be able to hire the best to work for their country so inevitably they won’t be the highest paid government employee.

That said, I think the expenses stuff is overblown on both sides and like a lot of bigotry accusations is just naked politicking. As I said before, spending £40k on IT during a pandemic is fine, ditto if we have to buy Deliveroo for a meeting. It’s the duck houses and shit people had a problem with, not basic functions of work.

Political jingoism - people at the top in general - not all - are talented and deserve what they get
Nonsense. Many of them are at the top because they were born unto privilege. You can't really think this Government is talented???

I’m talking about private enterprise and paying more to get talented MPs - you’ve echoed my point

That and I think coupled to the dearth available to come in from Europe.
Now being resolved by recruitment from the sub continent.
Alas we again poach trained up staff from other nations , depleting their own services .
Really should have learned by now .
Invest in our own .

Wow. Johnson missed 5 cobra meetings at the start of the pandemic because he was writing a book about Shakespeare to fund his divorce. If this is true, then he let thousands die just to make a few quid. The prime fucking minister.

Half of the people on here don't need to work .

Getting donations to "hold the government to account " seems a great way of making a living .

Get on twitter lads and push that shit, there's seemingly lots of plonkers on all sides willing to give out their cash so dickheads like Tommy, hopkins , Owen jones and femi can make a living for doing fuck all

It’s endemic across the written press too to be fair. Misery makes money sadly.

On another note , I agree with you lot about the spending of public money on takeaways .

I get annoyed by some of the ludicrous expenses afforded to MPs
