Full lockdown just announced here, from 5am tomorrow. All shops and hospitality to close and my match has been cancelled tomorrow afternoon too. Think it could be a rough few weeks coming up.

Wish me luck lads.
I noticed that your local 'Dutch cigarette' shop should still be open - back in the day it would have been a dream haha.

Bollocks to this anyway, having some time off this place.

The football threads will be quieter than my sex life for the next few weeks when games are inevitably cancelled and this thread is no good for mental health, constant fucking doom and gloom.

Peace 💙

Fucks sake. Putting to one side Wwhether or not it's the right thing to do it a really difficult thing to go through, especially having been through a couple already.

All you can do is tough it out. Good luck.

Literally has to stay at home for a few weeks with his pants round his ankles.

As a total diversion, enjoy watching this completely anonymous stranger wearing a chess suit take on one of the best players of all time in the Spain's Got Talent final. If that doesn't get you hard nothing will.

Not sure if posted already but this came out of Imperial yesterday.

Err...so the booster is pointless right?....you get a tiny uplift in lower transmission rate that lasts less than a fortnight?

For the London NHS / Ambulances

During the briefing, figures revealed the LAS Trust has 353 staff off due to Covid – a rise from the 214 not working because of the virus last week. Overall there are 832 staff off sick, out of its total workforce of 10,951.

Thats a massive amount if they are all triple jabbed surely?

Once again you're either being ridiculously obtuse or just ignorant.

They are required to take tests regularly as you'd expect with people who are the absolute front line, so even if they're triple jabbed and asymptomatic, they're still positive and can't work.

Remember that vaccines have never ever been about stopping anybody catching anything, they're about minimising the impact of catching something.

The researchers found a significantly increased risk of developing a symptomatic Omicron case compared to Delta for those who were two or more weeks past their second vaccine dose, and two or more weeks past their booster dose (for AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines

Depending on the estimates used for vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection from the Delta variant, this translates into vaccine effectiveness estimates against symptomatic Omicron infection of between 0% and 20% after two doses, and between 55% and 80% after a booster dose.

So if I get boosted my vaccine effectiveness against omicron increases from 0-20% up to somewhere between 55-80%.....but drops away again within a fortnight?

Is that right? And if it is, surely its time to head back to the lab to tweak the vaccines so they actually work for omicron....

....and still makes me question whether it's worth me having an mrna booster vaccine for the sake of 2 weeks enhanced protection....

Had personal experience of this, assuming symptoms don’t kick in now. Tested positive after getting pinged on Tuesday and testing Wednesday morning but still no symptoms...hopefully it’s stays that way ! Anecdotal but also heard of other people with similar/same situation

Edit - as I mentioned before I had booster 2.5 weeks ago

I think it means you need two weeks after jab for vaccine to fully kick in

It’s saying you are more likely to catch Omicron than delta even with booster/vaccination. The benefit of booster appears not to stop transmission/contagion but to keep immunity levels to the point that you’re extremely unlikely to end up severely ill/in hospital

So people are now saying a booster doesn't make a difference with catching or spreading. Only to minimize their personal symptoms.

Isn't there a period after that you should ignore a positive test? Ie jabbed one day and test positive the next.

A line from Sajid Javid from the sky news app I’ve just seen:

“Around 9 out of 10 people who require the most hospital care were unvaccinated”

Even taking that comment with a pinch of salt and say it was slightly exaggerated, surely the proof there is if you get the vaccine , your less likely to end up in hospital , the nhs will then be less over whelmed , then less restriction would need to be put in place? Really is a difficult concept to understand isn’t it?????

No, it's just poorly worded. Of course it's worth getting your booster as two doses are not very effective against it.

They’re not now saying it. They’ve always said it about any vaccine ever in the entire history of vaccines.

A vaccine’s only purpose is to prepare the immune system. Nothing more nothing less. Some people will have such a strong response from a vaccine it will give them immunity but that isn’t the primary purpose of the vaccine.

How many times does this have to be pointed out on here. I must have done it a dozen times myself. How are people not getting it.

I don’t think it says that. Read it again:

So essentially, Omicron is more infectious than Delta. That’s all it says. If you get the booster, you can still catch it (same as with almost every vaccine) but your chances of getting it are significantly reduced, and your infection won’t be as bad.

I've sobered up a bit now.....and yes, I can see it's just a poorly worded paragraph in that report that got me a bit muddled....that and a bit of mRNA anxiety as my booster is booked for this afternoon but I'm currently a double AZer...

So I'll drag my hungover arse up for a booster this afternoon.....

And vaccination reduces transmission too. Always has, always will. If you reduce infection, you reduce transmission.

However the booster is obviously far more important for Omicron, hence the push on it.

There's no need to look for excuses to avoid vaccination and boosters. The best chance of avoiding more lockdowns is a high proportion of vaccinated and boosted people in the general population.

Exactly, this should be headline news to promote the booster jab

On LBC, the stepson of the person who died with omricon didn't have any jabs, again this should also be highlighted more

I never really used to do it that much but I can say for absolute fact that coronavirus restrictions have a direct link to increased drug abuse. I live about 200m away from one.

What will your party line be if everyone was vaccinated? It is never going to end mate, and it is becoming pretty clear that the vaccine is not a solution to end this pandemic. Ok, it helps sure, but it is not the way to make it over.

Which prompts the question of why they recently quashed the Scottish one recently.
Valnova I think, an entirety different concept where it deals with the whole rather than just the spike.

Vaccine passports are a complete waste of time.

Was at a late night drinking establishment last night where one was required, and the Old Bill turned up there checking in with the bouncers whilst we were there, but the vast majority didn’t have the app so everyone just either googled a random QR code or one person WhatsApp’d everyone else a copy of theirs and got in.

Pointless.

On the plus side, the more they persevere with such nonsense, the more the underground rave culture will flourish.....

My brothers kids (21 and 23 yrs) have been partying like its 1989......

Said last night il stay off this thread but had a change of heart.

Il just post the good news, then fuckoff again until the next good news article

So heres today's

Could be very good news. Let’s just hope this is repeated across the country. My main concern about the article is that it mentions Northampton has above average vaccination/booster rates which may well have contributed to reduced hospitalisations.

Will some of the major cities with poor vaccination rates have the same outcome ? Fingers crossed they will but logic says probably not....only time will tell
