Full lockdown just announced here, from 5am tomorrow. All shops and hospitality to close and my match has been cancelled tomorrow afternoon too. Think it could be a rough few weeks coming up.

I noticed that your local 'Dutch cigarette' shop should still be open - back in the day it would have been a dream haha.

Err...so the booster is pointless right?....you get a tiny uplift in lower transmission rate that lasts less than a fortnight?

During the briefing, figures revealed the LAS Trust has 353 staff off due to Covid – a rise from the 214 not working because of the virus last week. Overall there are 832 staff off sick, out of its total workforce of 10,951.

Thats a massive amount if they are all triple jabbed surely?

Once again you're either being ridiculously obtuse or just ignorant.

They are required to take tests regularly as you'd expect with people who are the absolute front line, so even if they're triple jabbed and asymptomatic, they're still positive and can't work.

Remember that vaccines have never ever been about stopping anybody catching anything, they're about minimising the impact of catching something.

Depending on the estimates used for vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection from the Delta variant, this translates into vaccine effectiveness estimates against symptomatic Omicron infection of between 0% and 20% after two doses, and between 55% and 80% after a booster dose.

So if I get boosted my vaccine effectiveness against omicron increases from 0-20% up to somewhere between 55-80%.....but drops away again within a fortnight?

Is that right? And if it is, surely its time to head back to the lab to tweak the vaccines so they actually work for omicron....

....and still makes me question whether it's worth me having an mrna booster vaccine for the sake of 2 weeks enhanced protection....

Had personal experience of this, assuming symptoms don’t kick in now. Tested positive after getting pinged on Tuesday and testing Wednesday morning but still no symptoms...hopefully it’s stays that way ! Anecdotal but also heard of other people with similar/same situation

Edit - as I mentioned before I had booster 2.5 weeks ago

I think it means you need two weeks after jab for vaccine to fully kick in

It’s saying you are more likely to catch Omicron than delta even with booster/vaccination. The benefit of booster appears not to stop transmission/contagion but to keep immunity levels to the point that you’re extremely unlikely to end up severely ill/in hospital

A line from Sajid Javid from the sky news app I’ve just seen:

“Around 9 out of 10 people who require the most hospital care were unvaccinated”

Even taking that comment with a pinch of salt and say it was slightly exaggerated, surely the proof there is if you get the vaccine , your less likely to end up in hospital , the nhs will then be less over whelmed , then less restriction would need to be put in place? Really is a difficult concept to understand isn’t it?????

No, it's just poorly worded. Of course it's worth getting your booster as two doses are not very effective against it.

They’re not now saying it. They’ve always said it about any vaccine ever in the entire history of vaccines.

A vaccine’s only purpose is to prepare the immune system. Nothing more nothing less. Some people will have such a strong response from a vaccine it will give them immunity but that isn’t the primary purpose of the vaccine.

How many times does this have to be pointed out on here. I must have done it a dozen times myself. How are people not getting it.

I don’t think it says that. Read it again:

The researchers found a significantly increased risk of developing a symptomatic Omicron case compared to Delta for those who were two or more weeks past their second vaccine dose, and two or more weeks past their booster dose (for AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines)

So essentially, Omicron is more infectious than Delta. That’s all it says. If you get the booster, you can still catch it (same as with almost every vaccine) but your chances of getting it are significantly reduced, and your infection won’t be as bad.

I've sobered up a bit now.....and yes, I can see it's just a poorly worded paragraph in that report that got me a bit muddled....that and a bit of mRNA anxiety as my booster is booked for this afternoon but I'm currently a double AZer...

So I'll drag my hungover arse up for a booster this afternoon.....

On LBC, the stepson of the person who died with omricon didn't have any jabs, again this should also be highlighted more

I never really used to do it that much but I can say for absolute fact that coronavirus restrictions have a direct link to increased drug abuse. I live about 200m away from one.
And vaccination reduces transmission too. Always has, always will. If you reduce infection, you reduce transmission.

However the booster is obviously far more important for Omicron, hence the push on it.

What will your party line be if everyone was vaccinated? It is never going to end mate, and it is becoming pretty clear that the vaccine is not a solution to end this pandemic. Ok, it helps sure, but it is not the way to make it over.

Which prompts the question of why they recently quashed the Scottish one recently.
Valnova I think, an entirety different concept where it deals with the whole rather than just the spike.
