It isn't sensible if that's the reason is it? If the reason is that it's excessively long in relation to somebody's period of infectiousness then yeah.

People seem to have got it into their heads that this is only happening in the UK and everyone else is just cracking on like nothing has changed when pretty much the opposite is true.
We relaxed things far more than anyone else to start off with. When speaking to ex-colleagues still working on tour in the music industry the thing I have been hearing over and over again since freedom day is 'why are you acting like the pandemic is over?' and concern that there are zero mitigations in place when pretty much every other country they visit is still doing something, no matter how minor, to try and prevent future waves. Yet while people visiting the country were saying that people were complaining about how they had had their freedom taken away.
Its the same now, people are complaining that we are panicking and / or the government & press are over-hyping the variant to cover up their other messes yet the slowly but surely the rest of the world is going into lockdown.

I don't get why places like Wales are going to implement more restrictions while their deaths / hospitalisations are actually coming down. Especially that a Cardiff can can't go to watch a home game but can travel to an away game to watch that one. Is the COVID pass not enough now?
So many of them just don't make much sense.

It also has to be realistic else it is never ever going to end. Making unrealistic projections and then sticking to them even when real life looks to (so far) contradict isn't going to do anything.
It's 2025, the NHS employs 1,000 doctors across the country and nobody can leave their house from October to February to "save the NHS".

Again, it doesn't matter if it's an itchy arse. It isn't the actual virus that will cause the issues it's people having to sit at home for 10 days when any other year would be at work.

So the whole world is in I'm a conspiracy theory because Boris held an after work party 18 months ago. Ok errr that seems plausible.
I get that we're all fed up with restrictions but this remains serious. Warwick is full on the Covid ant ITU wards, the surge ward prepped in readiness. I also heard a former colleague of mine on CWR regarding the bed availability in UHCW regarding their response. He's a man of integrity and I'd take his opinion over the friend of a friend on a football forum. This is here to stay and we should be as cautious now with testing, sanitising and mask wearing as we were last year. Your choice, but I know what I'll be doing to protect my family.

How are the stats looking compared to last year in terms of hospitalisations and deaths?
More people will be dying from suicide every day than Omicron. People can't have to keep putting their lives on hold every few months.
People are always going to die from it.

Eyeballing that, looks like first week of november cases started increasing. So even with the two/three week lag you'd expect by the end of November deaths would start to following the same trend.

The WHO have said as much, lockdown works but it’s terrible for just about everything that isn’t COVID. The state also can’t prevent death and vaccination is it doing right by the people it’s supposed to protect.
However-if we end up maxing out ICU and ventilator space and infections are still rising then the decision is taken out of their hands.

A very important point was made on the radio about comparing to last year. When looking at numbers in hospital & ICU you're comparing with an NHS that had basically shut down as much non-covid treatment as possible to enable them to cope with covid.
Look at UHCW as an example
So while its great that the numbers aren't peaking as high as they are previously it doesn't mean there is no impact and the NHS is just carrying on as normal.

There seems to be a growing amount of evidence that this variant isn't as severe, fingers crossed that's the case, the next couple of weeks should tell us more.
There were on average about 14 suicides a day last year (thankfully, the suicide rate fell in 2020). There were 5200 suicides total in England and Wales last year - we've had about 70,000 coronavirus deaths in the UK as a whole in 2021.
Personally I think the jury's still out on whether countries are over-reacting or under-reacting to Omicron. But your claims that this is all some kind of media diversion tactic are sounding more and more unhinged.

I think that's something many overlook, myself too. Non-covid medical issues are still there, the backlog for treatment is huge and won't be cleared as quickly.

That is the reason though, it’s just the way the article is written. People need to step back from how things are presented by the media. I read last week it’s something like 98% of transmission is in first five days. It’s needed changing for a while and we will hopefully see more compliance on the back of it.

Its never been about deaths. It’s about hospital capacity.
Your suggestion that the threat from coronavirus (including Omicron) is being overblown compared to other health problems doesn't really work though. You may not be concerned, but plenty of health experts are.
Why will it get to that point? Because the media want to sell more papers? (Makes sense, lockdowns have done wonders for newspaper sales so far...haven't they?)

Pointless having beds when people are made to self isolate with a sniffle.
It's sad but people are going to go into hospital and die and more in the Winter. Loads of the restrictions they want to bring still don't make any sense.
It's not much different to locking the country down bar London. Illogical.
Played up by who, and to what end?
The government? (They've consistently resisted lockdowns)
The media? (Lockdowns are disastrous for their business models)
The health experts? (They have no power)
All of them would love nothing more than to move on from Covid. Just like the rest of us. It would be the best news ever for them - lockdowns have nearly killed them all, in some cases literally.
If there is a puppet master secretly at work in the UK that I've missed, then they've done a pretty good job of getting the rest of the world to join in.
