People seem to have got it into their heads that this is only happening in the UK and everyone else is just cracking on like nothing has changed when pretty much the opposite is true.

We relaxed things far more than anyone else to start off with. When speaking to ex-colleagues still working on tour in the music industry the thing I have been hearing over and over again since freedom day is 'why are you acting like the pandemic is over?' and concern that there are zero mitigations in place when pretty much every other country they visit is still doing something, no matter how minor, to try and prevent future waves. Yet while people visiting the country were saying that people were complaining about how they had had their freedom taken away.

Its the same now, people are complaining that we are panicking and / or the government & press are over-hyping the variant to cover up their other messes yet the slowly but surely the rest of the world is going into lockdown.

A lockdown over what though? Nobody is dying

Played up by who, and to what end?

The government? (They've consistently resisted lockdowns)
The media? (Lockdowns are disastrous for their business models)
The health experts? (They have no power)

All of them would love nothing more than to move on from Covid. Just like the rest of us. It would be the best news ever for them - lockdowns have nearly killed them all, in some cases literally.

If there is a puppet master secretly at work in the UK that I've missed, then they've done a pretty good job of getting the rest of the world to join in.

It's bullshit to make out the media aren't playing it up, it sells. You obviously have some sort of need to defend them but you only have to look at the majority of coverage which is desperate to whip up fear.

The Government, as it shows Lockdown doesn't seem to apply to them anyway. Why are they so keen this time? It was obvious from the start of this "wave" of Omicron. Especially how Boris was so keen to tell everybody that somebody had died with it and then people going on TV just happening to make "mistakes" in their numbers.

I'm sure the people making vaccines aren't complaining about the money being thrown at them either.

The whole thing has been about inciting fear amongst people and dividing them.

That is the reason though, it’s just the way the article is written. People need to step back from how things are presented by the media. I read last week it’s something like 98% of transmission is in first five days. It’s needed changing for a while and we will hopefully see more compliance on the back of it.

Nobody‘s arguing about the rate of transmission but if people do happen to get it,so what? Chances are it’s just cold symptoms -the whole country needs to stop panicking & losing their shit over this variant….it’s ridiculous

Are you new to the media or something? They whip up everything.

Daily Mail - Immigrants are going to cause record surge in covid cases
The Express - Covid is punishment for not loving Princess Diana enough and it's going to snow
The Guardian - Ethnic minorities suffer from covid you bastards

It's already been explained to you that a variant while being a lot less severe in most cases can be worse for hospitalisation rates if it spreads to to many people and it is rightly sensible that we look at what are at the moment very mild restrictions . Still you are a thick c**t who prefers to post clearly made up stories about mythical friends who work in hospitals.

I'm sorry, the government is "keen" for a new lockdown? Are you sure you have that right?

The media certainly overplays elements of the Covid story, just as it does with every story from politics to football - (sadly) that's their prerogative, and we all lap it up, yourself included. But can they force Chris Whitty to tell people to avoid unnecessary social gatherings? Or force Jenny Harries to warn about hospitals being overwhelmed? You may pride yourself on being able to read past sensationalist headlines, but you've gone too far the other way I'm afraid.

The vaccine companies? Sure, they have a dog in this fight. But weren't you moaning this time last year about not being able to get one quickly enough when everything was locked down?

It's next level with COVID. It is literally drummed into people consistently.

At what point do we say "Yeah, people will die" and carry on as normal?

It's something new to divide people, like Brexit was.

You still dont understand the point, the lockdown was nwver to stop people dying it was about sropping the nhs being overwhelmed, ok it would of lead to more deaths but its all about the nhs,

Yeah, it isn't going to be the Virus overwhelming.

It's going to be people sat at home who are OK to work.

Are we going to now test for every little thing and make people isolate just in case they pass it on? Quarantine people who sneeze?

Because you posted a clearly false story about a pretend of yours saying the NHS has never been that busy during the pandemic. I'm not the only one to call you out on your clear and quite obvious lies.

This is descending into a chimps tea party again lads lets all calm down.

Yes we should take precautions, and these mildish restrictions now im sure we all accept to make sure the NHS is overhwelmed

However, we cant ignore the data here, and from where Omicron first spread like shit, that it's more than likely all going to be OK.

Chill

Well yes because wgat happens if you have covid and you give it someone fragile abd they die? Yes omicron bla bla but majority of uk is still delta driven.

What happens if you have a cold or flu with no symptoms and pass it on and they die? Let them test daily and go back asap.

If we are now going to isolate people so much then you are going to need 3 times the staff as cover.

So much of it is what if. Meanwhile everything else gets forgotten.

There has to be a balance and acceptance that sadly, people die.

On the radio this morning it said they're going to start releasing data on the number of cases per variant and on vacinnated v unvacinnated (not sure if the latter applies to all cases or just hospitalisations).

Did they say how they will define unvaccinated? It's another way that words can be played on.
