But you were saying it was only the unvaccinated that are vulnerable?

You were the one who just grouped everybody together.
I didn’t actually. I said that the unvaccinated are the most vulnerable and they are. Especially true when you when you compare two otherwise near identical people whether that be 2 healthy 16 year olds or 2 unhealthy 65 year olds. Whoever isn’t vaccinated is more vulnerable than their comparable vaccinated and therefore by default the most vulnerable. It’s not a difficult concept.

There is never going to be no hospitalisations, especially if it's counted they test positive on entry.

Surely you could say it's unknown about the boosters etc? No idea how it will be against omicron or whatever comes next.
Nobody is saying there will be zero hospitalisations. Its simple maths, lower percentage hospitalised but increased transmission can still lead to increased hospitalisations overall.
And not everyone agrees with describing it as mild. This quote from WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for example
"While omicron does appear to be less severe compared to delta, especially in those vaccinated, it does not mean it should be categorised as mild.

"Just like previous variants, omicron is hospitalising people and it's killing people. In fact, the tsunami of cases is so huge and quick that it is overwhelming health systems around the world.”
Boosters are based on something that has been scientifically researched and tested and given in a measured dose. Its much less of an unknown that relying on immunity from prior infection. There's a lag of infections > hospitalisations > icu > deaths. We can't just decide to make it a free for all now and if things get worse revenuers the decision, by the time we know we're screwed it would be too late. Better to be slow and steady and not risk getting ourselves into a very dangerous position.

I don’t think you can get immune to it to be honest.
My Mrs had it in October and currently has it again.
She’s triple vaxxed but has still been rough both times. I’m struggling to see the point of vaccines, knowing two people who have had it and not been as ill as the mrs.
I’m still fully vaxxed myself as I’m erring on the side of caution, I currently have Covid but luckily not too rough with it.

Please do not post real accounts of your experience with being vaccinated. Don't you dare criticise that vaccine or talk about real science either. Brighton and Grendel said so.

We are not comparing two 16 year olds. We are talking about society as a complete picture. Although at 16 you have more chance of falling asleep drunk and freezing to death than you do of dying of covid.

If people really cared about the NHS they would lock away anyone that was obese. The over 65s who are vaccinated, and then over 50s who aren't vaccinated. That is the real science and correlation on death figures.

It's not a difficult concept.

Of course. One bloke’s anecdotal evidence against empirical data from tens of millions in this country alone.

That’s me told. What are your scientific credentials as it goes?

No one can take you seriously when you say stuff like that.
Good to see the proof of being a really empathetic person is going well...

Anyway, more fool me for turning up again. As I said, the only place that causes me anxiety and worry over Covid is here.

You can’t catch obesity by coming into contact with an obese person.

So don't, I couldn't care less.

I'll follow the science. You can be sentimental.

By following the science, I guess that means ignoring articles from Nature featuring tens of millions of people.

Let’s be honest it’s 50/50 over whether you’ve had the jab. Unless it’s some weird take on being a hindsight anti vax

You are making stuff up again. It's a common pattern on here when arguments are being lost. Either that or the 'how offensive' card.

What argument is even taking place? All I see is thinly veiled anti vax talking points and ignoring substantial peer reviewed pieces of evidence.

Frankly the data is all that matters, real world experience will always pick up the exceptions.

Funny that the real world experience of vaccines stopping my Mum from catching Covid are ignored however, or stopping my friend from ending up in hospital, unlike his brother-in-law pre-vaccine days (but hey, he didn't die so doesn't count). Let's hope vaccines help chiefdave's Dad, too, that's what matters in the real world.

And when it comes to it, all those are just isolated examples, it's the data collected and analysed by experts that matters... but people are either unwilling, or unable, to understand said data.

Critical thinking, my arse.

He also never gives what he thinks the alternative should be. Wants to call the vaccine taxi but is afraid to name his Kenny Jackett replacement

Can you explain how locking away obese people would help the NHS?

64% of the population is overweight and its far from an equal spread among all demographics. Do you think it would help the NHS to lose a big percentage of their employees as they'd been 'locked away'?

Unlike covid positive people this wouldn't be them isolating for a few days, even if they have the will and ability to lose weight you'd be locking people down for months or years? Whose paying the benefits bill that covers that?

If you are obese you are at significantly higher risk from Covid than if you are not. That's literally fact.
Have you got data for the rate of fully vaccinated obese people in hospital and ICU compared to non-obese people? I've looked for this data more than once and can't find it.

Like the 18 year old that Grendel posted who died. The brothers were massive prior to them getting Covid. Earlier access to the vaccine may have saved his life but not being obese at 18, and the knock on effects that has on the body, would have also significantly improved his chances of both surviving Covid as well as the plethora of health issues he would likely have had in later life without significant lifestyle changes.
We don't seem to be learning anything from this pandemic in terms of boosting natural health and immunity, it's all about the drugs. Loved the video that Nick posted promoting what you can do to help yourself but it barely got a reaction here and whenever obesity is mentioned it often gets glossed over, I suspect because it's a topic that people don't want to look in the mirror and face.

Quite happy to admit I fall into that category and as said before I haven’t known a time where I wasn’t overweight.

At the same time, I’ve never smoked and rarely drink. There is some irony in telling the ‘fatties’ to stay inside and then telling them also to exercise more.

There's also a get fit, lose weight thread on here to help people. That's got to be better than coming up with some loose, tangential leap to justify preconceived wishes about a pandemic.

Obesity is a ticking time bomb though and will wreak havoc soon, it will absolutely decimate the NHS. Its something we've known for years that obesity not only effects quality of life short term, but has a detrimental effect long term with things like diabetes and cancers.

Granted its not the best of comparisons, but we've had 2 years of covid now and luckily we have a vaccine for those who wish/need to take it. But let's not brush under the carpet the plethora of issues being overweight and obese bring.

Not at all, I am sure I liked the video Nick posted and absolutely agree it would be better for the NHS if there were less obesity. Obviously better for myself too. It's the 'lock em all up' part I think is hilarious bollocks. Especially coming from someone who compared the differential treatment of unvaccinated people in Austria to the holocaust.
