What has annoyed me in your case is persistent criticism of vaccination as a tool for fighting Covid but the reluctance to name or just suggest an alternative. As has been shown, the risk of rare complications in younger people is higher in those infected rather than vaccinated. That alone to me seems a sensible reason to get it.

New evidence has also emerged on the decline in vaccine effectiveness against transmission over time and against more infectious variants. During the most critical time of year however, a statistically significant reduction against transmission by reducing overall viral load stands up as another big reason to get the jab if you’re younger.
And it must be noted, that decline doesn't mean it just vanishes one day, either. The actual numbers the vaccines started with were superb, beyond wildest expectations really, so the fact they take a hit due to omicron still means they compare relatively well compared to flu vaccines.

What annoys me is this isn't the first pandemic the human race has experienced and everything we are using has been employed to fight previous pandemics yet people are acting like it's something new and sinister.

Meanwhile in the background actual assaults on our rights and our judicial system are ongoing and most people dont seem to care.

Imagine for the outbreaks of the 19th century and all of time before that that people were told one day that we would readily be able to make not just a cure but the prevention of illness for an infectious disease.

They’d see that alone as a miracle. Then imagine telling them that tens of millions would willingly reject that treatment and call it a conspiracy instead.

A big study came out in NEJM comparing Delta with Alpha and found a fair reduction for Delta as well. Really all this points to for me is we need more variant specific vaccines which the technology should allow for easily.

And that will come too, the same as it does for flu. At the moment we're in triage really - at some point we can (and need to) move to the longer term planning. That might even mean a step backwards to move forwards - what's annoying is the goalposts have changed mantra too - what do people expect during a pandemic?!?

If people can’t spot me in the crowd today I’ll be sorely disappointed

This is my body battery for the last week. I first showed symptoms on Sunday. It knackered me out on Tuesday and Wednesday but the rest of the week really has shown how I’ve been with it.
If everyone was as mild as I’ve been then it would be the end of the pandemic for sure. Let’s hope this is a sign of the way it’s going.

What is a body battery and how is it measured?

My PCR finally came back positive today.

I’ve had major (and I mean major) headaches, white spots on my tongue and it feels like I’ve burnt it. Aching joints and a slight cough. Also a massive appetite even though I can’t taste anything. It also comes in waves, it’s not been as bad as when I thought I had it way back in March 2020. Not had a fever or sweats or anything. And no breathing issues thank fuck.

And as above I’m not fat. Bored as fuck though. The whole experience has been shit.

2 jabs, no booster. Wish I got the booster earlier if I’m honest but couldn’t find a time with a couple of days after for potential recovery.

The headache was terrible tbh I agree , and it's on and off still 7 days in .. today I feel like I have a head cold but feel extremely tired ... I've had 2 jabs and had a cold on the day I was supposed to get a booster so it didn't happen .

Haven't lost taste or smell like many

What about those already in there?

Stands to reason the unvaccinated are likely to require treatment for longer too so the 90% figure is still possible.

It isn't. Go through the full document and rack the numbers up.

If you are older or vulnerable you would be stupid not to get the vaccination, that much is clear. I can see the frustration towards unvaccinated people in that sense. For younger and healthy people it is a totally different scenario. The rate of a BMI above 25, age, and ICU link is pretty high too.

Here is the graph on BMI.

Overweight is classed as anything over a BMI of 25. That makes between 75 and 80% of cases here. Layer over the data from the BMI and combine it with age and vaccination status and you have a pretty clear indication of what is causing the issues.

And yet, throughout this pandemic, the unvaccinated comprise a proportionally greater share of patients than their share of the population. Why do you think that is?

I'm not saying you are wrong at all, I am just saying there are other factors which need to be taken into account.

If people wanna throw anger at the unvaccinated then fine, but have the facts straight and realise age and weight are factors which cannot be ignored within that.

There really isn't anything anyone can do about their age

They are contributing factors of course, and people in those categories who aren’t vaccinated are mad in my view. But what’s also not in dispute is that the unvaccinated as a whole pose a bigger problem to the health service.

You can of course still be infected, but you’ll almost certainly have a lower viral load than if you weren’t jabbed and that will slow down transmission if not cut it out. My own view on what the longer term ‘answer’ is probably isn’t popular

That isn't really the point though. As Brighton has said, if you are in the more vulnerable categories you would be mad not to be jabbed. You can't compare that to a healthy 16 year old.

Do you accept that there is still a benefit in them having it from a societal perspective to reduce transmission?

I am making the point that if you haven't had the vaccine you can rectify that. There is nothing you can do about your age. Unless you are trying to say that older people and people with health conditions aren't important.

No one has said they aren't important. That's a lazy argument and classic deflection. Just look at the facts please.

On first point not really showing your empathetic character there.

On point two not lazy at all on my part. The laziness comes from people saying it doesn't matter as it only affects people who are old or have existing health conditions.

We are all trying to get you to look at the facts, especially those that show the overwhelming benefits of vaccination.

I've looked into the facts more than any on here, presented them, and people are still trying to argue with them.

If you don't have the ability to construct basic comprehension then that is on you.

Most people who have been arguing have now backed off, then we had the 'are you vaccinated or not' which also backfired.

This isn't even about facts anymore. Goodbye.

Society A has nobody vaccinated
Society B has everybody fat and old vaccinated
Society C has everybody vaccinated

Which does best?

Which of them relate to the real world? Stop inventing scenarios that aren't real.

We've established fat, old, and then unvaccinated are most at risk. Can't argue with those faxxts.

After many posts on the subject I've just tested positive on an LFT. Very strong line very quickly.

I don't have the classic symptoms (aside from an irregular cough) but just feel like I've got a head cold at the minute.
