De Bruyne, Modric, Messi, Ronaldo.

None of them for me have been anything close to outstanding, but the media frothing is nauseating.

I mean there's a whole thread pretty much dedicated to moaning about Conservative shit so I think 'you lot' will get over a throw away comment.

The Qatari state is Muslim, you can't separate the 2. Religion is more important than nationality in that part of the world. I'm not even hating on them, I'm saying it's important a Muslim country gets the WC but no one wants to say which country they would be ok with having it in. Could you answer that out of interest?

And yes, Belgium are fucking awful.

The lesson learnt is don't trust world cup host bidders application paperwork. No mention in bid documents about firstly having to move tournament then all the fan restrictions that have been imposed recently.

I could have put one of those chances away.

Fuck Belgium though, hopefully they're shit for a while too.

I don't see Croatia doing much damage next round either

We shouldn't take Senegal for granted at all but it really does like like the winner of that QF between England and France will make the final.

If I'm totally honest , I've never seen Messi or ronaldo set the world alight at a world cup
Ronaldo really dines out on that hat-trick vs Spain, otherwise you're right, he does very little at World Cups. Portugal would be much better off without him in the team now. I don't think that about Argentina and Messi just yet.

Tell you what though, all the £millions that he's earned, and for him to be so gutted afterwards shows it matters.

Let's be honest though, England's golden generation was a better starting 11 , problem for England was , Brazil France, Argentina, Italy , Germany, Portugal were all pretty fucking good too

For me the main reason Belgium failed over the last 3 tournaments is the manager
To a degree. I wouldn't say losing to France at a semi final is any disgrace, though. And they lost to the winners in the Euros as well who did actually look formidable until the final. Not like Belgium are the only team with good players in them. 2014's the main missed chance.

They should really have gone all the way in 2016. That was their peak for me and they bottled it against Wales.

Yeah tbf I probably meant 2016! 2014 was an average Argentina, but still not bad!

The point being though, once you get to a knockout phase it's small margins and harsh, when so many teams have world class players, to complain at losing to the eventual winners, especially at a semi-final stage. It's run of the ball, who's on it on that particular day as much as anything.

As a small aside, I hadn't realised quite how mixed Joachim Loew's club form was as a manager until recently, yet he's somebody I'd have down as a top international manager, despite only winning one major torunament in quite a few attempts.

And of course Martinez wasn't in charge for 2014 or 2016, so can't really be blamed for them!

Loew is the reason I think the whole 'failed at Boro' thing is irrelevant where Southgate is concerned.

International management is a different ball game. Plenty of top club managers have failed internationally as have international managers going into the club game.

So Martinez has fallen on his sword - Lula Lukaku must have had a massive bet on not going through as he missed 4 sitters

Difficult to decide which match to watch. Can really see a come back in either.

More strange linezwomn activity with a call of offside at least 10 seconds later.
Which wasn't as there was a slight deflection from a defendes heel.
