Let's be honest, teachers, people that work in healthcare, the emergency services etc - they don't get paid enough. They're core elements that keep a country ticking. It's a wider problem.

I fully agree with you....then you admit your payrise was 100% over 5 years in the years of low inflation and you want us to back you up for a lot more when the man on the street gets much less. You knew what you would earn but a 100% raise was simply not enough after taking the position.

So please tell me why 100% payrise wasn't good enough in 5 years of low inflation years and what do you think would be acceptable now.

I got a 100% rise after having been promoted quickly and taken on additional responsibilities. The profession as a whole has seen a real terms pay drop in the region of 20% since 2010.

As it is I am still actively trying to leave because the conditions even with the money aren’t worth it. Wife in a similar position.

Current UPS3 is £43K and would take a new teacher a minimum of 11 years to reach it assuming no additional TLR responsibility.

And as I have always said everyone should do what is best for them. But 100% payrise after just 5 years in times of low inflation and complaining that the payrise wasn't enough is a bit too much.

I paid over 40k in income tax last year. Just like I usually do. And some expect me to pay more so they can have more than a 100% payrise after just 5 Years. Never mind. Just 4 more weeks of paying for the entititled.

I doubled my salary overnight.

That wasn't through any special move. I lost my job, my relationship broke down, I went travelling. I basically had nothing left.

When I came back and tried to get myself back to some kind of normal, I applied for a series of jobs. The one I got ended up being twice the salary of the one I was let go from. I genuinely couldn't believe it. I got the keys to the city of my dreams in the process.

Some poor soul has got it way worse. For what? Luck? A balance of bad karma, perhaps. I've got no doubt you've worked really hard, and you seem like a great lad, but let's not hit on others for wanting to do better.
