Ben Wilson' race for the golden glove?! (12 Viewers)

I'd love to see his stats without Fadz in defence compared to with Fadz.

I think there may well be a big difference.
Yes, but surely most keepers are only as good as the defence in front of them?

I'm not talking about the defence in general, I'm talking about 1 individual.
The difference Fadz makes is unreal.

Fadz settles the young loan players around him, and keeps them concentrating and in the right positions.

If we can keep hold of the loans for another season they will learn so much from him.

It’s no coincidence we’ve looked far more solid at the back since his return and collectively restricted Luton (and more so Millwall) to many clear cut chances. Fadz must be running Gyo close for player of the season.

Wilson will do for now but he’s not the answer next season if we want to challenge at the top end. Kicking aside, his reluctance to come for crosses really irritates me… and when he does he doesn’t always come out on top in a commanding manner as he should. Made a pigs ear of one at the death last night which I think led to McNally being in the right place to thankfully clear off the line.

That being said, Wilson has improved significantly since he first joined so credit to both the player and coaching staff for the work they’ve put in.

Interesting stat, but not sure it's entirely related.

Every win this season has included a clean sheet.
Also in all of the nil-nils. In fact on those, both teams have always had a clean sheet.

We’re unlikely to go for a new keeper while Moore is under contract, so I’d imagine he’ll be number 1 next season too.

I could see us finding money for one tbh... although it might depend, perversely, on how much confidence Robins has in Moore were Wilson to get injured or lose form.

7 of our 11 wins have been one nil as well.

We're something like sixth in the league for goals conceded, which is better than you would think it is.

I would imagine it goes into three phases. The first being the ridiculous opening 10 or so games where we were playing catch up, then the purple patch leading up to the World Cup, and then the poor form since. Our squad can’t handle the absence of a handful of players because it has no depth and I’m guessing our defensive stats mirror McF’s absence closely

It's a great stat when you are thinking of our defensive qualities. However, it also shows that if the opponents score, we dont win.

very true, although I’d imagine after his last chance saloon performance against Wrexham, Robins may well tell Moore he’s free to find a new club.

In fairness, Wilson has earned the shirt and his new contract, and MR’s opinion is far superior to my own even if I think we could and should be looking for better as a #1.

I guess he depends on how much Moore is on a week - he might just decide to stay for the year and the wage - he'll be looking at an average League One club taking him on probably.

Who do you suggest ? MR and his staff are doing their best to make the squad better but it takes time to turn the negitivity and inactivity of our former owner to the positvity that I hope the King era is bringing.

have always been impressed with Johansson at Rotherham even he’s played against us, still only 24. Would’ve liked someone like Bentley who was out of favour for some reason at Bristol City, but he moved to Wolves as backup in Jan.

Exciting times ahead I’m sure, you only have to look at the final few windows of the SISU nightmare to see the constraints MR has had to work with. I’m still astonished as to Moore’s decline since last season, he was one of the outstanding performers in 21/22.

He’s got next to go chance of winning it - the clean sheets were down to the change in tactics and the defensive displays - we’ve got something like 3 cleans sheets out of the last 10 games.
Got no chance ;)
I'd say stick to the politics thread, but ..... :)

Wilson hasn't done a lot wrong recently, in fact he's done a lot right, but Mcnally - Fadz - Doyle is lightyears ahead of Rose - Doyle - Panzo, I think we'll be defensively solid for the rest of the season now

Think panzo is a good player too and if needed will benefit from the mcfadz effect at LCB just like doyle

We have strength in depth

I’ve been very critical of him but last couple of games he’s looked a lot more comfortable. It is massively influenced on the back three in front of him though. Fadz was obviously makes a huge difference but the McNally loan is beginning to look inspired.

OK, maybe it's fresh eyes, but he has looked a lot less fidgity the past couple of games I've seen him. That's surely got to help calm him, and his defence!

Also a nice pass, and a nice attempt at a Cruyff turn(!) although could have done without the latter!

Wilson is clearly good enough at this level, the stats don't lie. All keepers make mistakes/have weaknesses as do outfield players. Of course he is protected by defenders, thats what they are out there for.

There are only 2 keepers that have kept more clean sheets than Wilson in the entirety of the top 5 divisions, and both of them have played 4 more matches.

Also worth noting, as a team we are ranked 10th for shots on target against, yet Wilson is ranked first for clean sheets. Muric, at Burnley, has faced 19 fewer SOT but has 3 fewer clean sheets.

Where are those SOT stats from? They're wildly different from what I have seen.

Sorry but I don’t agree with you on this one, a lot of his clean sheets he didn’t have a save to make. Saturday all he had to do was catch one ball

That's bollocks. He only had one save, but part of that was due to coming to claim and making clearances. Jumped high to punch one clear in the first half too. The naysayers can't have it that he doesn't have quality shots to save and that he isn't part of the reason too.
