As fans we are impatient, but in a game of football involving two teams, only one can win - and sometimes, neither. It may be stating the bloody obvious; however I think we sometimes forget that we don't have a divine right to win. What is more important is that the team is improving all the time, We can all see where improvements are needed. The thing that will be sad, is if we have to lose too many of the good parts to upgrade the weaker parts, Fine if it works, but not always a guarantee, Hoping we lose no more than one of our main assets (and I won't like that bit either). Somebody remind me, but if we were to sell a player for £5m, am I right that in terms of the 'funds available' regarding EFL financial regs, we are not allowed to re-invest the whole £5m. just a proportion of it?
That's my opinion in a nutshell as think we all realise the way sisu work, just hope if we get a good replacement in.
Think any more than 1 out its becomes more and more difficult.

Not sure. I personally think those two would probably be the best he could get. He's still far too raw and inconsistent in front of goal for a PL move and Burnley and Norwich would be the two in the Championship (presuming they go down of course) that would most likely be able to afford the fee.

Equally, I actually think a move to Norwich/Burnley is quite attractive. Likely to receive a massive increase in wages and he'd get the opportunity to play for a team that will automatically go into the season as favourites for promotion back to the PL.
Fair enough. I guess time will tell.

Money talks
I think some players think a little more long term, and in fact have a better and more lucrative career as a result. Plenty of examples of players who have made a move and increased their earnings considerably short term but who then drift down the leagues and regret it long term.

Not treading water to a certain extent, but unless we really mount a go for promotion, there will only be so many seasons a lack of investment gets us in this division

To be fair we are 24 points clear of relegation , that's established and in no way treading water

so we’re Barnsley last season

Not really as he’d be going into the first team not the U23

Anyway , most this team aren't good enough for the championship so there isn't much to worry about with other clubs wanting them 😉

Why do people pick 1 extreme example of a Club that have imploded and use it to try and push an argument for this football club .
Weird , very weird.

Same argument can be pushed for about 16 teams in the league ffs , they are all a couple of sales away from being a worse team

Forest next season (assuming they don't go up - and yes they'll have some cash to spend) will lose Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence, Blackburn will lose Diaz, their better on loan players, and are likely to revert to mid-table at best. Bristol City are close to failing EFL financial regs (there may be others). Next season, I'm hoping we can keep the loss of key players to one, replace them with a suitable player, then be able to attract high(er) quality loans (based upon our growing reputation. An interesting summer ahead. Really hope we can turn Barnsley over (although I'm saying that more with hope than expectation), as I think we can win at Bristol City on the Tuesday.

Another cheap and cheerful solution then. Let’s extend Shipley as well.

This contract extension seems more bizarre by the day - Shipley is in ahead of him now

This decision gets more baffling - he’s nowhere near the level needed - what next Waghorn gets another 5 years, Shipley a 3 year deal?

Ridiculous
We are all allowed dud opinions on a football forum. It happens.

And we can all allow players to improve their form and change our minds. But don't gloat eh

but I acknowledged this in my thread? Yet this season he’s had more abuse than ever

It’s just apparent that there’ll be no even ground where Jamie Allen is concerned; on one hand, he lacks poise and awareness, body strength and sharpness, but on the other hand he works like a horse, goes box to box, and chips in with a few goals (at crucial times). Maybe Robins keeps him in the team because of his ability to do precisely what the staff want from him, although on occasions his probable lack of quality is apparent.

I do feel that if we’re to progress, his position is one that needs upgrading. Whether Robins feels that, is questionable.

Most of the squad needs upgrading if we’re actually serious about progressing.

Probably because his deficiencies Stand out more along side players like Hamer, Sheaf, and O'hare.

Yes we need someone to do the leg work and inject some pace and momentum, but that person also needs to be able to tackle, and compete physically, and win the odd header.

I'm sure MR will bring in another midfielder to compete in that position, it's just a question of do we keep Allen as a squad player, or does he move on for regular football.

I’d put him in the same category as Hyam - someone who was probably a little out of their depth at times but is now performing to a solid, if often unspectacular standard, to a point where they don’t seem out of place at this level. And really, you need players like that to fill out the squad, who are consistent, familiar with the system, and don’t break the bank.

he’s played more than any other player this season bar Gyokeres I would think he’s getting regular football - probably too much

He was always I guess reasonable fitness levels but this season his work rate was something you never thought you’d see in him

This is such a dumb retort. Allen is a level below the likes of Hamer Sheaf, Vik, etc.

every other player is a level below those 3 there’s not an etc other than o hare whose injured

Tbh I think sheaf has had a disappointing season

It's weird you've only mentioned 3 of the 4 players who'd be good enough.

Sheaf I don’t is anywhere near premier league quality

Players better than Jamie Allen in the first team squad: Fadz, McNally, Doyle, Panzo, Rose, Bidwell, Eccles, Hamer, Sheaf, O’Hare, Palmer, Godden, Gyokeres. All of those I’d keep ahead of him if rebuilding the squad. He’s on the level of Dabo and Wilson in that he’s a L1/lower champ player at his best.

Think there are a few in your list who would be lower end championship players. We need to evolve the squad so that Allen is not a guaranteed starter and rather someone striving to get minutes off the bench. He is a great presser of the ball and those attributes when trying to see games out in the last 10 mins is a valuable asset and on that basis he is a decent squad player.
If we were chasing a game we would need different options like Palmer as Allen would not be the right option.
