Absolutely and MHancock was shown up today also for being as thick as pig shit. The only difference between the two is there’s never been people queuing up to tell you how intelligent MHancock is and its all an act.

Oh I don't know. Some of it is surprisingly not too bad as you say, but the bad stuff is really bad.

He seemed quite keen for the entire elderly population to die off from the bits I read.

Yeah, agreed. But I think we already knew all the bad stuff. I don't think there's anything really new in there as some of the media were making out.

Vallance was saying that Boris would demand to “let it rip” one day, and then demand zero deaths the next. He sounds like a totally bizarre person with no interest in actually making a decision.

Well you'd think so but then you remember some of the proper right wing nutters in that party who have made it a lot worse. Some would have actively tried to break the NHS so they could demolish it and sell it to private enterprise, and would have kept everything open longer because money is all that matters. Others who'd have said everyone not going to work was just lazy and workshy so why should the govt provide things like furlough. Braverman would probably have described having covid as a 'lifestyle choice'.

It was an absolute shitshow run overseen by people who are stupid, lazy and arrogant, but there are others within that ruling party who would have made the situation almost infinitely worse.

The main criteria for getting some civil service jobs seems to be understanding all the governance / machinery rather than content knowledge.

So the Autumn statement was a big meh for everyone really, anything positive eaten up by the refusal to increase thresholds.

There was some decent stuff in there but as you say they should’ve just increased thresholds. Increasing initial personal allowance to £15k would’ve been a headline grabber for starters. Not sure why they did the NI change instead and not heard any commentary on the reasons either ?

Dont think it will shift the dial much, if at all, in the polls. The Tories are done even if Sunak and Hunt have taken a pretty sensible approach to a majority of economic matters in past 12 months

I might be wrong as I’ve only looked at some of the headline announcements but didn’t think there was any change to employers contributions

Sometimes I quite like Ken Clarke, then I listen to interviews like the one on R4 this evening and remember why he’s a Tory. Just completely switching and waffling utter nonsense that wasn’t even consistent with itself to try and prove Sunak and Hunt are Very Serious Politicians who would never play games with the countries finances, before basically being forced to admit that’s exactly what they’re doing but this is different cos reasons and anyway who remembers Thatcher??

It was a bit of a pointless budget past the headlines. People’s expendable incomes are going to continue to be squeezed and that’s what really matters to people. It will be forgotten about tomorrow when the rise of the energy price cap is announced. Circa 5% rise for the next quarter is what the smart money is on, apparently.
