I agree a backup ST is important. If Haji is on the left and Simms needs a rest, someone adding goals there could be the difference.
I actually think we have reasonable depth in the middle, but as much as I like Palmer a CAM with more goal involvement backing up rudoni/alongside would be a boost.
Losing MvE for much time would also hurt.

There’s literally a couple of pages on this thread on exactly these points, I cba to repeat it all over again but it’s there if you want it. Somewhere either in this thread (or another one, I can’t remember now) I said none of us know how much cash Doug does/doesn’t have, so it’s impossible to know either way, it’s just speculation, nothing is that deep with regards to this thread.

Although, it is literally all in this thread above, there’s zero need for me to type it all out again just because someone cba to go back and read it.
Ultimately the club will be trying to work out whether it is still trying to raise the ceiling or raise the floor, basically improve the first team, or improve the overall squad. If Ntelo does sign he certainly improves the squad but not the starting 11, and I think generally we can say the front 3 is sorted for now. Goalkeeper I believe (hope) is now sorted. Midfield happy with Sheaf, Eccles and Rudoni, and think Allen will do a job where needed, but there are various posts ad threads on Palmer and Torp, which shows maybe we do need another midfielder. Defence is also a concern, as someone has mentioned a suspension and an injury and we are starting to struggle, I think we do need another CD to strengthen which allows lati to offer some flexibility from the bench, and I would also argue Burroughs could be important this season as he can cover both full back positions. Generally I think we are trying to improve the squad at the moment, although a top signing CD or CM would improve the starting 11 and by default improve the squad.
Also mindful that if Ntelo signs we then only have room for 2 more over 21 players in our 25 man squad (presuming Wilson and Collins are both part of that squad).
Nice to have the headache of potentially having too many players to fit into the 25 man squad for once isn't it.

Really not sold on Ntelo tbh, stats aren’t exactly amazing for a league that’s very poor and I haven’t seen anything from any highlight reels that screams raw talent, just seems to fall over a lot. It could just be me being a pessimistic old fart but I’m really not sure why people always seem to rate the first thing we get linked with.

Obviously the training staff and MR can see something in him to work with and improve / increase value. Let them do their job. Its unlikely he will go straight into the first team, but when needed he will have been accessed and given the time and attention needed to make into what's needed

Firstly, you’re all just proving my point that the first ST that we’re linked with (not even any concrete evidence we’re getting him) you’ll all saying he’s exactly what we want and the best thing since sliced bread. Like there’s no other options at all? Are we not allowed to have an opinion other than “we’re linked with him therefore he must be good”?
Find it really odd that we have to seem to be positive about any potential signing we make. Where’s all your sense of questioning and thought? I realise I’ve not been overwhelmed by many players linked with us so far (I think Dovin and Rudoni are decent for the record) but jeez at least I’m questioning things rather than calling random strangers names and providing zero evidence for why they’re good.
Which leads me on to my second point, where’s the proof he’s actually any good? About a 30% strike rate for a team that finished 5th in the Bulgarian league last season, hardly a quality league and his highlight reel could be a reel for any striker in almost any league, there’s nothing outstanding in it at all.
Thirdly, say what you want about fifa, are we genuinely at the stage where we’re applauding the signing of a 58 rated player?

No it’s because he looks bang average at best, he plays in a shit league for a team no one ever talks about, and from the (albeit limited) highlights reels of him he looks like a bog standard striker to me. Do you think he looks like a bit of quality then? I don’t mind at all if we use loanees or free agents but they’ve got to be decent. I’m not saying he is definitively shit, I’m saying from the limited stats and highlight reels I’m yet to be impressed.

Like I was just saying to Chris, I’m not saying he’s definitively shit, I’ll always say our scouts know more than me, that’s completely obvious, but from the limited highlight reels and stats I’ve briefly looked at he doesn’t have any outstanding qualities that I can see. I feel like we’re always moaning at each other and I genuinely have nothing against you Sparks but just remember we’re trying to break into the prem here not finish mid-table.

Before you say I play football manager etc I don’t, just now and again I like perusing the made-up stats fifa put out, even for our current team (I think Van Ewijk is our best player on fifa ratings btw).
I’m not going to put a “fifa value” on what we should be signing as it varies from position to position and what we want out of the particular (starting/back up etc), but if you’re going down that route then I’d say I hope we’re looking at players 61-65 and above (maybe?).
