Yes this calls for cool heads not a ridiculous knee jerk reaction which would just inflame the situation. (Btw that's what Israel needed after the Hamas attacks rather than the overreaction).In NI it began very similarly to how it’s beginning here, and the justifications for the violence were equally similar.
The army being called in was a mistake because it wasn’t seen as a neutral arbiter and because the soldiers were trained for warzones instead of civilian riots. Which led more often than not to the state killing its own citizens.
You can’t look at the one time in recent history we used the army in this way and completely dismiss it. If a soldier shoots dead someone from either side it will get much worse.
