In NI it began very similarly to how it’s beginning here, and the justifications for the violence were equally similar.

The army being called in was a mistake because it wasn’t seen as a neutral arbiter and because the soldiers were trained for warzones instead of civilian riots. Which led more often than not to the state killing its own citizens.

You can’t look at the one time in recent history we used the army in this way and completely dismiss it. If a soldier shoots dead someone from either side it will get much worse.

Yes this calls for cool heads not a ridiculous knee jerk reaction which would just inflame the situation. (Btw that's what Israel needed after the Hamas attacks rather than the overreaction).

The army are not trained to deal with this kind of shit. They're trained to shoot to kill, call in artillery, drive tanks, march in tight formation, etc. etc.. They've got no powers of arrest, beyond those that you and I have.

The country isn't in flames, it's grim, but it's not that grim. Adding high powered rifles and nervous squaddies into the mix would not end well.

Does the wording really matter? The video is pretty damning.

Because I was comparing people being attacked on video and people being stopped in cars. Have a look at what I said about the white people stopping cars or punching people because of the computer of their skin.

I used those examples because the same thing has happened, just perpetrators and victims switched.
