The law seems very clear. An indirect free kick WILL be awarded.
What gives refs the right to pick and choose which rules to follow. This is an entirely objective matter, it is not open to interpretation like, say, a foul or penalty. They give offside for a toenail ffs.
And then they wonder why there is dissent!

Should make it a penalty for controlling the ball with the hands for more than 6 seconds. No one can challenge the keepers these days, it’s a bookable offence to give them a dirty look these days. OK, a slight exaggeration but it seems like a dirty look is requiring medical treatment practically every match.

Whatever the reason behind the scenes it’s this stuff that gives refs a bad name. Everyone knows the rule. Everyone in the arena could see it being broken. But for some reason it’s not enforced.

If they drop the ball to the floor they can be tackled. If they drop it on the floor having had it in control in their hands, it should be a penalty if they pick it back up again.

That’s not a rule, it is a process to enforce a rule.
You don’t need to trial anything, just fucking do it. Teams will soon modify their behaviour.
The indirect free kick which should be awarded will be more of a deterrent than a yellow car as there will never be a second yellow given for persistent breaches,
Sure someone said on here a few weeks ago this rule didn’t exist any more.
The weird thing is it isn’t like they go over by a few seconds, it’s like 20-30 every time. There seems to be an unwritten understanding though that the ref waits until both teams stroll back into position until they start to take notice of how long the keeper has it. All very vague.

I have emailed PGMOL at [email protected] asking why the 6 second rule is not being enforced. I have also mentioned the tactical feigning of injury by goalkeepers which is against the spirit of the game.

It was right in front of us and we didn't see it so it's doubtful the lineswoman saw it either. I think the referee wasn't in a good position to see it either, the camera angles from where MVE ran is the best angle and he wasn't there.

Read law 13 about taking of actual free kick.
"a free kick can be taken with a foot or both feet simultaneously" thought that was why the "donkey kick" was outlawed.

I think there's more corruption in today's game than people realise, as the money has never been more lucrative.

The donkey kick was a long time ago, in the days if hoofball. A rule was devised to ban it, presumably been rescinded.
Having said that they would probably use VAR today to show that the ball wasn’t released by both feet simultaneously- which may have been the argument used at the time.

The obligatory yellow used to be shown deep into stoppage time, but now we aren’t even getting that. Yesterday, Cooper knew exactly how to play the game, because the ref was too busy waddling toward the centre circle, facing the opposite direction.
I also make the the 4th game in a row that the keeper has feigned injury in order for the rest of the team to regroup and speak to the manager, because we were on top.
Add to that the yards gained with every throw or free kick, penalty appeals waved away and other bizarre decisions, summed him up. Not the worst by any stretch, but as someone mentioned above, when both sets of fans are bellowing ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ and ‘you’re not fit to referee’, it speaks volumes.
The time added on rule endorsed at the beginning of 23/24 (post World Cup) vanished pretty quickly. Can’t see the logic of reverting to how it was. Expected nothing less from a Chris Wilder team. Horrible, little toad.

They were happy enough to move their flagship Sunday afternoon game from 4pm to 4:30pm when VAR came in and made games longer, not sure they'd be that fussed about having 10 minutes more actual game time rather than having to fill hours with pundits.

Agree with everything you've said, but they're a little club aren't they. All protect each other and blame everyone else other than themselves.
It's the fact almost every referee is consistently bad that is telling. I genuinely believe they are infiltrated, hence the reason David Coote has suddenly been "disgraced".

If keepers got booked more often for time wasting, the bookies' odds would simply change to reflect that.
