Why oh why has it been decided to just ignore certain laws


An indirect free kick is awarded if a goalkeeper, inside their penalty area, commits any of the following offences:
• controls the ball with the hand/arm for more than six seconds before releasing it
Would love to do a one man mission on this

The law seems very clear. An indirect free kick WILL be awarded.

What gives refs the right to pick and choose which rules to follow. This is an entirely objective matter, it is not open to interpretation like, say, a foul or penalty. They give offside for a toenail ffs.

And then they wonder why there is dissent!

Where’s the conclusion of it without that rule? A keeper can grab the ball in the 89th min and just run out the clock?

Should make it a penalty for controlling the ball with the hands for more than 6 seconds. No one can challenge the keepers these days, it’s a bookable offence to give them a dirty look these days. OK, a slight exaggeration but it seems like a dirty look is requiring medical treatment practically every match.

40 seconds for goal kicks
Same for throws
The one that can’t be contradicted is out of the keepers hands
They have to start managing it
Gonna encourage my lad to
To be fair grassroots they rarely hold on for 6 seconds

Howard Webb was saying that in the Premier League 2 - so u21s they are trialing a rule where the referee counts down from 6, to enforce it.

was mentioned on the overlap episode with him on.

Sheffield United won't be top for long if they introduce that in the Championship

Keepers normally drop the ball to the floor to avoid it cooper didn’t

Club should send a video of that
If they drop the ball to the floor they can be tackled. If they drop it on the floor having had it in control in their hands, it should be a penalty if they pick it back up again.

That’s not a rule, it is a process to enforce a rule.

You don’t need to trial anything, just fucking do it. Teams will soon modify their behaviour.

The indirect free kick which should be awarded will be more of a deterrent than a yellow car as there will never be a second yellow given for persistent breaches,

The weird thing is it isn’t like they go over by a few seconds, it’s like 20-30 every time. There seems to be an unwritten understanding though that the ref waits until both teams stroll back into position until they start to take notice of how long the keeper has it. All very vague.

Yeah, just inconsistent application of the law.

I have the IFAB Laws of the Game PDF saved on my PC. For those of a similarly nerdy disposition, it's in Rule 12.2, page 109.

Time wasting was absurd. Remember after the World Cup when they added a new rule and have now completely forgot about it?

Could have been 15+ with those rules in place.
I wouldn’t be surprise if the TV companies, especially Sky, complained. Must have played havoc with their scheduling.

As if Sky hasn’t fucked the game up enough already!!

Looks like the ref missed an assault in the sending off one of their big thugs run in and elbowed MVE
It was right in front of us and we didn't see it so it's doubtful the lineswoman saw it either. I think the referee wasn't in a good position to see it either, the camera angles from where MVE ran is the best angle and he wasn't there.

Nothing given so should be getting a retrospective ban then.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's not influence from betting companies.

I need their GK to be booked for about £250+ yesterday, a banker surely?

I think there's more corruption in today's game than people realise, as the money has never been more lucrative.

Yes they could but will chose not to.
Read law 13 about taking of actual free kick.
"a free kick can be taken with a foot or both feet simultaneously" thought that was why the "donkey kick" was outlawed.
The donkey kick was a long time ago, in the days if hoofball. A rule was devised to ban it, presumably been rescinded.

Having said that they would probably use VAR today to show that the ball wasn’t released by both feet simultaneously- which may have been the argument used at the time.

The appalling standard is ruining the game. I can’t remember the last time that a player (particularly GK) was booked for time wasting. The obligatory yellow used to be shown deep into stoppage time, but now we aren’t even getting that. Yesterday, Cooper knew exactly how to play the game, because the ref was too busy waddling toward the centre circle, facing the opposite direction.

I also make the the 4th game in a row that the keeper has feigned injury in order for the rest of the team to regroup and speak to the manager, because we were on top.

Add to that the yards gained with every throw or free kick, penalty appeals waved away and other bizarre decisions, summed him up. Not the worst by any stretch, but as someone mentioned above, when both sets of fans are bellowing ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ and ‘you’re not fit to referee’, it speaks volumes.

The time added on rule endorsed at the beginning of 23/24 (post World Cup) vanished pretty quickly. Can’t see the logic of reverting to how it was. Expected nothing less from a Chris Wilder team. Horrible, little toad.

They were happy enough to move their flagship Sunday afternoon game from 4pm to 4:30pm when VAR came in and made games longer, not sure they'd be that fussed about having 10 minutes more actual game time rather than having to fill hours with pundits.

Darren Bond, didn’t think he could make a more stupid decision than his Alice band, but yesterday he got very close. Absolute tosser, all about him, why do we keep getting sub par refs?

Agree with everything you've said, but they're a little club aren't they. All protect each other and blame everyone else other than themselves.

It's the fact almost every referee is consistently bad that is telling. I genuinely believe they are infiltrated, hence the reason David Coote has suddenly been "disgraced".

Wilson manages to get booked for time wasting.

If keepers got booked more often for time wasting, the bookies' odds would simply change to reflect that.
