The new signings so far (20 Viewers)

From all accounts Raphael was nowhere near ready to play regularly in the Championship, injury or not. And Tavares has barely played in the league.

Anyway.
Yet Frank Lampard said he will train with the first team and will get his chance.

And Robins had said previously he was signed for the first team squad not as a development player, this from July 24 in Cov Telegraph.

We're arguing different points though. I think most the players we've signed are good and i very much disagree on Torp, quality player imo.

I'd agree that the Kitching and the BTA money however could have been better spent, most certainly, its a decent chunk of money for the 2 and could certainly have been better used. It is what it is though, its done and players shouldn't be judged as some bulk spend. Individually most of them are decent.

Individually Haji Wright makes up the largest amount of the £45 million and i wouldn't even say he was overpriced. One of the best forwards in the league for me.

I mean it’s seems to be consensus we are lacking in the middle. And it’s not at DM so it’s either Torp or Rudoni who loses out.

I agree on Haji. I don’t think we got a bargain but I don’t think we overspent now. As it stands though he’s the only player I’d be confident on making a profit on. MvE maybe just because of his high ceiling but his forms been so poor.

I think for me the problem is where we’ve spent on what should be our spine of quality outside of Wright we’ve fucked it up a bit. EMC if he plays like he did last game will be worth the money, but why at LW? Rudoni is young and not ready to carry the midfield, Kitching should be your rock at the back and isn’t. Simms should be your number 9 and isn’t at the moment.

The squad overall is fine, if unspectacular for quite a lot of money and still looks like it needs a spine bringing in. My issue with the likes of Torp is that he’s fine, but it looks like we still need an upgrade on him. And for a squad player we probably paid a bit too much. Similarly if Rudoni isn’t going to carry you at times £5m is too much even if he’s a decent young player and I like him in the team.

Just so frustrating after getting more in in transfer fees than I’ve seen all my life.

Was BTA bad value though? Top scorer with a play off rival 2 years running. Id say we got him at a fair price tbh

I'm not sure what you really expect. We are not in the market for finished products even if we are spending more on transfer fees, as any such players we might want will inevitably go to the PL or to an ex PL team who can outbid us in terms of wages. As such we are only ever going to be competing for promising players with a potential upside to them, and by definition that means some will be hit or miss. It is also the case that these type of players might take a while to fulfil that promise.

Seeing recent signs of EMC and Rudoni rising to that challenge has enthused me a bit and I don't think we are too far from getting it right. Although I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in a new midfielder I don't see it as our main problem area, given our defence is so porous. Even there I would still like to see a bit more of the Thomas/ Kitching partnership before completely giving up on them. For me, if Bidwell is not going to be in the team then left back is our weak spot, as Dasilvas lack of height will always be targeted by the opposition, as well as his habit of switching off when the ball is put in behind him.

I expect us to be higher than fourth from bottom in the value for money league. I thought I’d made that pretty clear. All of these points apply to everyone at our level who hasn’t got PL riches.

He was top scorer last season with 11 league goals and joint top scorer the previous season with 7. Thats not a lot of goals for £2.5m especially when you consider he was never going to be any more than 3rd choice for a system with a lone striker and now with Bassette has dropped to 4th choice.

Tyler Walker was our top scorer in 20/21 with 7 goal one season.

What does that even mean?

This season has been a really strange one, and I believe our squad is far better than our league position indicates. It has felt like everytime we give a chance to the opposition that they score, and that in reality we are a much better team than the league table indicates. While we probably have too much to do to challenge the top 6 this season the only squads in the league that are definitely better than ours and ones I would rather have, belong to Burnley, Leeds and Sheff U. Others like Sunderland, West Brom and Middlesbrough are good on their day and had better seasons but I don't think they are particularly stronger than we are.

I posted the stat. The difference between where we are in the spending order va where we are in the league. It’s a rough tool cos we’ve rebuilt over two years but I’d expect we’d come off worse if that was considered. At least we aren’t Hull, but we aren’t in great company.

I'd enjoy watching Lampard scoring lots of long range goals.

EMC and Rudoni have come from League 1. It takes a bit of time to get used to the speed of the game in the Championship and the strength and fitness needed. In recent games both have played very well and have both got goals and assists. There's no guarantees but if they continue scoring, assisting and terrorising defences they will become very big players for us.

I wouldnt class Rudoni as coming from league one, yes we signed him from there but he played championship for the last 2 years

Rudoni wasn’t signed from League One. This is his third consecutive season in the Championship.

Rudoni has been our best player for me. Terrific signing. Where the idea comes from that BTA isn’t a good buy for 2.5m baffles me. He’s a proven championship striker. He’s probably played up front for us twice? I’d rather have him up top than Bassette. It’s not his fault we bought 5 attack minded players and 1 defender that we already had over the summer. New players need time to settle. Unfortunately if the immediate requirement for them is to get 3 goals a game to win they’re going to struggle.

He definitely has a certain lack of finesse. Always battles though and seems to like an early shot / isn’t afraid to have a go.

Think at the moment he’s nothing more than a useful squad / bench option when we’re looking for fresh legs or to defend from the top. I would be surprised if he cemented a long term place in the team.

All that being said he did have that one good game where he played up top on his own so who knows, still early days.
