Springsteen at the (ACL) Ricoh (10 Viewers)

Why would he need to? What's the revenue difference bewteen a large concert and a third tier football game?

Getting two concerts this year is very poor though, plenty of others doing the "circuit" this year not playing at the Ricoh.

How many people at a concert 40,000? So 80,000 this year, 8 home games to be conservative, still 15 more at least not including cup games.

30,000 at the JPT semi-final, for the club doing it at £5 per ticket probably a loss.

For ACL?

All you SISU morons who claim ACL couldn't organise a ***** in a brewery, eat your words ! THIS is why SISU are sooooo desperate to get their hands on the Ricoh.
ACL stand firm - no deals with crooks !!!!! No way does ACL need twopencehalfpenny rent from SISU when they can fill the Ricoh with their own events - 4 concerts a year is probably worth more than 20 x SISU's rent "offer/demand". :claping hands::claping hands::claping hands:

How much did ACL make on the gig?

How much have ACL made in the past when other bands have played there?

At least hold a cogent arguement.

I did my apprenticeship at Dunlop on the Holbrooks Lane; so I know the area well. In my youth, it was a dump. Really a mess. An eyesore.

When I watch the Olympics there now; or David Cup tennis, or high-profile rugby games; as a Coventrian, I am proud. I cannot - simply cannot - understand how anyone from this often-knocked city cannot be so.

Likewise, if you'd have told me as a kid that Coventry would host acts of the renown of Springsteen, Coldplay, Muse, the Chilli Peppers et al; I'd have laughed in your face. Entertainment of that spectre in Coventry? Impossible.

The Ricoh is not the San Siro. It is not the O2; but I tell you what, it's a damn sight better than anything I honestly thought would exist in Coventry.

Look on TripAdvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUs...a-Coventry_West_Midlands_England.html#REVIEWS

First three reviews:

'We caught a shuttle bus from the train station to a Muse concert there, and there were dozens of them for the return journey. The venue is well organised, with plenty of food and drinks outlets and the toilets only ever had a small queue. Drinks are expensive, as expected, but at least they had plenty in stock! Visited May 2013'

'We came to the Ricoh in May to see the wonderful Muse as part of their UK stadium tour. It was my first time at a football stadium and my friend actually said to me "for your first stadium it's not a bad choice" and I agree.
Plenty of toilets, plenty of food (Altho I myself didn't buy any) and the seats are comfy. The only negative is the traffic and roads getting out afterwards but that's hardly the Ricoh's fault. Visited May 2013'

'Liked the Casino open in the complex. We arrived after midnight and was glad we could get a beer or two before going to bed in the De Vere which was next to the Casino. Even the staff within the Casino building were happy and very helpful. Well Done. and the Coventry ambassadors who worked on the Saturday we saw were very welcoming. Well Done Coventry !!! You are the best. Visited April 2013'

Those who derive joy from it's shortcomings frankly astonish me. And doubtless would be the first to whinge if it were atthe other end of the M69, or elsewhere for that matter

It is a good venue, do you think that it would be there at all though if not for the "vision" of Richardson?

If we had stayed at Highfield Road, like most agree that we should have, then do you think that the council would have built it off their own backs?

Not a great comparison; as it's about revenues, surely? If Fisher gets his way, he'll pay £400K per annum.

If I take your figures of 80K for the 2 'poor' concerts; doesn't that mean ACL would only need to take £5 per ticket from two concerts to match Fisher's rent?

And that's in what you deem a poor year?

No. And no.

Not that I'm suggesting giving 'our Bryan' the freedom of the City though...

Do you know how much they do make from a concert though?

I'm saying it's a poor year based on the fact that in a year when there a few who could fill the Ricoh touring the country, they have only managed to attract two.

Robbie Williams is touring,Bon Jovi played at Villa Park the other week, they should be getting in as many as they can during what we laughably call summer whilst they can, many years there aren't the artists big enough to fill the Ricoh on tour.

Just saying that ACL should maximise revenues whilst they can, and also ask why they often don't get people returning. Bon Jovi this year, Take That last year, Heineken Cup the last 4 or 5 years etc.

Yes it's fantastic - here are some reviews;

"Parking very limited near to stadium, had to use park and ride that cost £20 to park on a rugby pitch. Trying to return to my car had a scrum of people trying to get onto the few buses that were running. Nobody to guide you to the place where your bus would come. Will probably not return there again to be ripped off!"

"Whoever designed that stadium/car parking areas obviously has never driven a car nor attended a concert. Very poor road design to exit the vast quantity of cars. The marshalls there were not bad in that they got things moving (when they could) but they were let down by the layout architects who were evidently short on any decent amount of synaptic activity"

"as for the Ricoh Arean it was rubbish not the facilities just the non-management of the event it was pathetic.
Stewards who turned a blind eye to Smoking all over the arena including the concourse's, blocked staircases/entrance/access points dangerous bottlenecks were common place with a serious risk of a major crush at any moment.."

Looks like we need a new management company

No pleasing some, I parked in Car Park D, no problem at all.

Thank God they've decimated the support base .
That review site would be full of disgruntled CCFC fans complaining how hard acess was due to a successful venture attracting significant punters ,remember what it was like in 2005?

I largely agree with you. My initial point was driven from Torchy's assertion that they'd need 23 concerts to match 23 football games by means of income. They clearly don't.

I'll say again what I've said before. ACL have diversified their business 'quite well' in recent years. They need to do better - of course - but the direct football income is only 75% of their turnover now; although again, I'm aware there are cross-over incomes that are difficult to separate out.

At the time the rent was set, ACL wouldn't have had the confidence in their non-CCFC income their accounts now show they have; and as such, they should review the football club's contribution to the overall pot. The best option, for me, would be rent that declines on a sliding scale, with the football club and ACL working hand-in-hand. Reducing over the next 5 years down to a negligible level.

Or an owner to come in, and unify both income streams - CCFC and non-CCFC - into one turnover, which would help FFP.

Post-relegation, I think SISU's ambition was the above. They just don't wanted to pay for it.

With retrospective hindsight, everyone can now say it was a bad call to leave Highfield Road. But now we are where we are, the venue and it's potential usefulness to the football team is a crazed thing to walk out on

Trawl - it took 10 seconds - It's an average venue no more and no less and the notion its any better is misguided. What is sad is some idiot claiming to be a football supporter coming onto a supporters forum and bigging up a third rate management company who have helped get us where we are today. Without football the place will be totally irrelevant to 99% of the local population 365 days a year.

Ironic message from Red Place, go and convince the League SISU can manage a FC, the accounts speak for themselves, although sorry Fisher and Brookfield said they were a mess, were ACL responsible for the miss management of the Football Club for the past six years? Grow up and resign

Are you suggesting that ACL should make ccfc homeless??? Wouldn't that legitimatise the prospective ground share? Surely we all want ccfc to play in cov?

Also pretty sure someone on here said that ACL has to bid and pay for the acts to come and play here so the actual income for these events is nowhere near as much as you'd think.

Open question all: Have the Red Hot Chilli Peppers played at the RICOH!? I was hoping they play there but I think I seen someone on here said they had played their, I'd be gutted if I don't get to see them live.
I saw the RHCP and they were excellent, it's a shame you missed them, the Ricoh Rocked that night.

My favourite recent TripAdvisor comment is this one

Chose to attend the Jaguar Suite with friends for some pre match hospitality- £79.00 + Vat
The cost got us into the The Jaguar Suite, 3 course meal, Guest Speakers and a pay bar.
Worth every penny.
Staff fantastic. Food excellent. Room venue and hospitality all very good. Seats to watch game again good
Result - Rubbish. Got beat 1-0 in the freezing cold.
Stayed in the Devere hotel after the game which is overlooking pitch - again excellent value for money £40.00 booked in advance.
Will definately go again and have same deal

He may want the same deal but I'm kind of hoping we beat them by more than 1-0 next time ;)

I think the promoter pays for the venue for concerts, although the Davis Cup was reported on here as being a different arrangement I think - not sure why.

Obviously they don't but my post was, as you know tongue-in-cheek.

I think you may be over estimating the profits from 4 concerts per year.

NEC made just £3m profit in 2012 from all their music concerts combined. They vast majority of their profit (another £30m) came from exhibitions and conferencing.

We could do with an exhibition of good football at the Ricoh if nowt else.

On a Springsteen fansite I found the following:
The staff at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, are you listening? hope so, because I want to say a big thank you for the way you handled things yesterday. Polite, helpful, courteous and accommodating. You couldn't be faulted.

That is one of many positive reviews regarding our stadium. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Grendel.

bands that can fill stadiums will have the venue hired by their booking agent. smaller bands or other events that would be suitable for the jag hall will more often than not be paid events where the venue promoter (I would assume in our case ACL) pay a set fee for the event or band. Something like the Davis Cup I would imagine the fee includes the setup of the courts etc as whoever is in charge of the Davis Cup would want to ensure they are to a set standard. For bands it will be up to the venue to provide the infrastructure such as staging and, dependent on the act, lighting, PA etc. The killer is that with a lot of set fee events there will be clause that after breakeven is reached 80-95% of the profit goes to the band on top of their fee. It's why many seemingly successful music venues make a lot less than people think.

No I am sure you'll be as biased against the football club as you always have been.

Car parking cheaper than O2 Wembley at least around the Ricoh there is parking not a rip off. Bottlenecks its a stadium not a field ffs,I was on the pitch took me 10 minutes to get out that was from one side to the other. So two or three people wont go again I was talking to some lads from Tipton(thought Id get used to the accent for future reference) this was their 6th concert at the Ricoh said it was a great venue wished that Albion had a ground like it.
Didnt see any smoking apart from a few on the pitch no blocked staircases appart from when people were leaving ie normal for the end of an event.
Oh and by the way Springsteen and The E Steet Band were brilliant three hour and ten minutes of sheer class at a brilliant venue.

No, I'm not "completely wrong" I just have a different opinion. Annoying I'm sure.

I've been to 20 plus shows so although you're entitled to your opinion you are completely wrong!

He speaks highly of you too

I'm sure Bruce is bothered by the naysayers, after all he's only sold millions of records, millions of tickets and is of the legendary status only a handful of artists ever reach. Add to that he plays 3 hours plus at every show when most bands play for half that time. Also he mixes up the set lists whereas most bands/artists play the same songs in the same order night after night
