I did my apprenticeship at Dunlop on the Holbrooks Lane; so I know the area well. In my youth, it was a dump. Really a mess. An eyesore.
When I watch the Olympics there now; or David Cup tennis, or high-profile rugby games; as a Coventrian, I am proud. I cannot - simply cannot - understand how anyone from this often-knocked city cannot be so.
Likewise, if you'd have told me as a kid that Coventry would host acts of the renown of Springsteen, Coldplay, Muse, the Chilli Peppers et al; I'd have laughed in your face. Entertainment of that spectre in Coventry? Impossible.
The Ricoh is not the San Siro. It is not the O2; but I tell you what, it's a damn sight better than anything I honestly thought would exist in Coventry.

First three reviews:
'We caught a shuttle bus from the train station to a Muse concert there, and there were dozens of them for the return journey. The venue is well organised, with plenty of food and drinks outlets and the toilets only ever had a small queue. Drinks are expensive, as expected, but at least they had plenty in stock! 'We came to the Ricoh in May to see the wonderful Muse as part of their UK stadium tour. It was my first time at a football stadium and my friend actually said to me "for your first stadium it's not a bad choice" and I agree.
Plenty of toilets, plenty of food (Altho I myself didn't buy any) and the seats are comfy. The only negative is the traffic and roads getting out afterwards but that's hardly the Ricoh's fault. Visited May 2013'
'Liked the Casino open in the complex. We arrived after midnight and was glad we could get a beer or two before going to bed in the De Vere which was next to the Casino. Even the staff within the Casino building were happy and very helpful. Well Done. and the Coventry ambassadors who worked on the Saturday we saw were very welcoming. Well Done Coventry !!! You are the best. Visited April 2013'
Those who derive joy from it's shortcomings frankly astonish me. And doubtless would be the first to whinge if it were atthe other end of the M69, or elsewhere for that matter
