If City were currently playing their "home" games at a better class of stadium at 3.00pm on a Saturday, but still 30 odd miles away, I believe the "home" attendance would be at least double what it has been a sixfields.

I think the marked increase in "home" fans at the Notts county game (the 1st to take place on a Saturday) reinforces this belief.

I also think you may be confusing a vocal few on here (this board probably only has about 100 regular posters at a guess) with the vast majority of city fans who just wanna go to the pub & the footy with their mates on a Saturday.

I'd suggest a lot of fans just can't be arsed with the combination of travelling to a shit venue every second sunday....

....Just like about the missing 18,000-20,000 that couldn't be arsed, week in, week out, to go to the Ricoh on a Saturday until the whiff of a JPT Wembley trip cropped up....

.....or the fact that 5,000 attended the gentle weekend protest stroll around the City in the summer months, but a few months on & how many could be arsed to go on the hill....30 ish, how many outside the council...25?

...how many outside the FL offices....3?

Kid yourselves all you like that the vast majority are boycotting due to strict principles......sure, principles are involved, but NOPM just happens to be a very convenient principle for those with other plans on a sunday.

For the record: I have not & will not attend Sixfields.
This is nothing to do with Sisu & everything to do with the fact that its about 150 miles from my home & it looks like I'll have a really shit time if I went there.
PS: I haven't been to the Ricoh since 2006 for the same reasons....over 2 hours drive each way & a shit experience. I still attend about 10 away games per season.:wave:

Bang on, I have been wanting to go for a while but as it is an extra 2 hours I haven't been able to for various reasons until this weekend. It wasn't so much a bad journey just a pain in the arse as I am used to a 10 minute walk to the Ricoh or about 3 minutes if I get dropped off. If it was Nuneaton I'd be there every week!

I don't mean to sound patronising but as you say you don't live around here. Your opinion of city fans is based on what is said on here.

I cant tell you that the feeling locally is very much a matter of principle. This is coming from the average fans who don't get involved in protests or post on internet forums.

Well, the reasons are probably identical to mine. I went to wolves & port vale. They were away fixtures, with a good away following, a good atmosphere & on a Saturday !!

Its OK, I don't feel particularly patronised, however I would point out that my opinion of city fans is NOT just based on what is said on here.....good job too.....but based on being a city fan since the late 1970's & regularly going to both home & away games since 1982.

I stick to my main points.....if we were ground sharing at a better ground & playing on Saturdays, the gates would be a lot higher.....30+ years of following city has certainly proved to me that we have a very large portion of fair-weather, take it or leave it type supporters.....recent examples being the JPT game v average gate at the ricoh + the 5000 strong march followed by piss poorly attended protests ever since...

You expect to travel for away games and there's a variety there too. Going to home games at a far lesser ground miles away hardly has the same appeal even if you weren't put out by the move.

I don't think it's the prevailing reason for people staying away in this case, but there's certainly logic in it.

In fact surely it'd be a better argument against SISU's actions, that the moderate majority who basically go along with anything CCFC, have been effectively barred from attending games due to the logistics?

Surely that's a far more damning argument than anything else?!?

I don't why you would imagine that. Northampton isn't particularly a more difficult place to get too than St Andrews. Both are accessible by train, the club provide coach travel, and both are pretty straightforward to drive too. Indeed when I went to Northampton to see us play [ a pre season friendly a few years ago I hasten to add}, I was back in Coventry in about 25 minutes. No the reason people are choosing not to go, is because we feel Coventry City should always play its home games in Coventry.
8,000 fans managed to go to Arsenal last year on a Tuesday night, so a half hour trip to Northampton should be a piece of cake.

People would definitely be more persuaded if it was in Birmingham. How many people is up for the point-scorers, but if you live in Coventry going to Birmingham is seen as far more hassle-free than Northampton, even if the hassle's actually the same.

Its a good point. Cov has far more of an asociation with Brum, historically, socially, similar industry. Its only 30 odd miles to Northampton and dead easy to get to, but the two places have very little in common.

If you live on the eastern side of Coventry then Northampton is no more difficult to get to than Brum. (By car at least anyway)

Nowhere's particularly difficult to get to really, but people are likely to think of Birmingham as far more convenient, possibly even Walsall if that ended up being the choice as they're regarded as West Midlands so feel more local in a sense. Most people are staying away no matter where it is, but there will be a few that see Northampton as just too out of the way whereas a closer ground might have reluctantly suited them a little more.

I wouldn't call a couple of hundred a "marked increase" that's the sort of numbers that can come from fluctuation. It's not a trend until there's three data points.

I felt insulted because it implied a large portion of our fan base don't go simply because they can't be arsed with the hassle of travelling 35 miles to a 'home' game.

Why then, the higher average attendances at away games so far this season?

Furthermore, I'm also insulted that a minority of our fan base choose to recognize 'home' games, by attending a venue in a location other than Coventry.

If CCFC show the total amount of supporters who had purchased tickets last year it is more than 90% who are not going. The bulk of the fans i have spoken to are not going as they think it is wrong/are fed up with the move to northampton and all blame Fisher/sisu.

Yes, but that isn't all fans is it? I know people who don't go because they can't get there or they have to be back because they have kids but do want to go. You can't assume everybody doesn't attend for the same reason (that just happens to be the same as yours).

One thing you can say is that if we had a big FA cup draw there a few people's minds would be changed and you would struggle to get a ticket if Chelsea or Man Utd rocked up to Sixfields.
