Pom. Living in Oz. Have done for twenty years. Overseas. It's the ex-pat community that should be targeted as they never lose British citizenship. As none of us were technically granted British Citizenship. But given it by UK birth

Sorry for the delay replying - the epetition website says: "To create or sign an e-petition, you must be either: a British citizen or a resident in the UK (you normally live in the UK)".

I took Smouch's post as meaning he lived in Australia but he'd been able to sign - I guess what he means was he's an Aussie citizen living in the UK so he was able to sign. Just as a UK citizen living overseas can sign. So I think I was right in the first place ie a non uk citizen not living in the uk can't sign

I have noticed this petition has started to slow down and with only 16000 signed this is going to be a struggle to get the 100, 000 we need.

In this way we target a wider audience and everybody receives an email. I receive weekly email from this company every since I signed a petition about 3 years ago so I no this would be an option worth looking at.

The initial surge was great but we're now in a really boring, hard slog phase. We've hardly scratched the surface in Cov and Warks and handing out petition leaflets in Bedworth last Saturday shows that once you get off forums like this most people don't know about the petition at all. As we don't have money for an advertising campaign it's all street level, word of mouth stuff. One or two petition flyers are beginning to appear in house windows, shops etc but it's a slow process.

For anyone who wants to do something: keep posting on other clubs forums (Blues would be a good one to target today!); print off petition flyers and put in your house and car window, distribute them to local shops, pubs, workplace etc etc; if you're not going to Colchester we'll be handing out leaflets (Sat 8 March 10am in Cov); and nag everyone you know to sign

The rate from here needs to be about 250 per day to hit the 100k before the cut off. Done in my head so apologies if its a bit wayward.

Michael - your work is admirable but is it worth the hassle of fighting this losing battle? Not anywhere near enough people give a shit.

Average now slowing to 40 per day. Even if this rate remained stable the total numbers by the cut off would be about 30,000.

It has probably been discussed elsewhere in the previous 54 pages but is it not possible to ask people to sign paper copies and add that to the total?

I can only speak for myself but unless it was an issue I really care about (for example this one) I would be very unlikely to take the time to log onto an email link, fill in the details, then have to click on the email response to confirm the vote. Too much hassle. Whereas there are probably loads of people in Coventry that have enough passing interest to take the time to sign a bit of paper wafted under their noses in town. Just a thought.

How is that any easier? I would have thought if anything that would be even more of a hassle. You go in town to shop or look around. Parking is expensive. It is going to take much longer to sign by hand than online. I would have thought that might even be illegal. I suspect this would not be allowed. I agree with you that getting people to make the effort to log in and sign is more difficult actually.

We should not have entered into this as it will end in humiliating failure.

As this e-petition has received more than 10 000 signatures, the relevant Government department have provided the following response:

The government is aware of the challenging circumstances Coventry City FC fans and understand the frustration that supporters of Coventry must have about the temporary relocation.

The Westminster Hall debate in October aired many of the concerns of supporters, MPs and the wider Coventry community. The Minister for Sport subsequently met with the Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP and Jeremy Wright MP, and has pursued their concerns with the Football League.

The Football League take the matter of Coventry City returning to their home city very seriously, and have undertaken to keep the Minister informed of progress. The Club have committed to returning to Coventry within 3 years, with the FL holding a bond to this effect. We support all parties in their effort to develop and articulate that plan, to give confidence to the fans and wider community.

More broadly, the football authorities have made significant moves over recent years to put clubs on a stronger financial footing within their communities. The Football Association Regulatory Authority (FARA) will ensure changes in club ownership are fully scrutinised. Financial Fair Play rules are now in force to encourage responsible spending. Both the Premier League and the Football Association are providing funding to supporter groups such as the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct, and all Premier League and Football League clubs are now required to have a designated Supporter Liaison Officer. This is all welcome progress.

This e-petition remains open to signatures and will be considered for debate by the Backbench Business Committee should it pass the 100 000 signature threshold.

Well his latest straight talking newsletter admits kcic in Coventry does not support attending home games.

I've always thought that the whole campaign was some odd way of getting sphinx as the main club and try and isolate the actual club. I'm sure by the end of the season the campaign will focus on getting them to the Ricoh.
