Just hope we can either hold onto everyone first team or get enough to add quality in several positions if we do lose someone.

Feeling quite positive about the first XI, but we’ve got three more loans we could use and it’d be nice to get some cover in across the pitch.

Slightly concerning we didn’t trust Jones to make an impact over Allen when chasing the game yesterday and that Bright still isn’t around the first team. If they aren’t going to make it maybe an AM loan in, maybe a ST until Jan while Walker and Godden are recovering. CM obviously a concern while Kelly and Eccles are out.

I actually thought he wouldn't add much? Maatsen and Dabo were providing good width and causing issues, we needed Allen on to provide that extra runner beyond the defence and the front men, and tbf it worked, we just missed the bloody pen it got us!

What do we reckon this last loan is then?

I reckon a CM. MR will see were missing a James'esque player there and hopefully try and remedy

It’s a real shame short term loans aren’t a thing any more, a CM and a ST for a month would be perfect.

Why? By the time they find their feet they would be gone.

It’s a LWB, he’s said this multiple times. Said a CM will wait until Jan.

In fairness, the Telegraph have contradicted themselves on this (shock, horror) so can understand the confusion.

They initially said we were targeting a CM & had given up on a 2nd LWB, now they've flipped it. One from the CC84 playbook meaning they're right either way (and ignoring the fact that they are also wrong either way too).

When did they say that? I’ve only ever seen them say 2LWBs and a CB

Pretty sure we all agree the CM position is much more important to get covered than LWB

TBH we’ve only got options at AM if Jones and Bright can get mentally and physically fit both of which are huge question marks. So I’m not yet massively happy there either.

Someone who could cover both AM and CM, or a LWB who can cover RWB or LCB would be ideal.

Ryan Giles would have been perfect ;-) Can cover LWB, AML, AMR

Not sure. While not ideal we at least have cover at CM in Allen and Shipley - and even Howley.

We have nothing at LWB if Maasten gets injured. DaCosta is an option in theory but most of this forum have written it off at RWB never mind left. Reid is way too green, so we’d be left with someone like Pask playing massively out of position.

I’d also argue the wing backs are absolutely pivotal to our formation and system, and are single points of failure. At least at CM there’s two of them and/or you can switch formation to a three to account for any weaknesses.

But absolutely agree two loan LWB is poor. It’s really disappointing we don’t have a young hot prospect coming through.

Players who are genuinely comfortable in 2 positions would solve a lot of issues going forward.
We hear Gus can cover, maybe Jones too, not sure about the rest?

Obviously Dion stands out in the past as a more than competent emergency centre-half

Seems a bit odd to get 2 LWBs on loan, gonna be hard to keep them both happy and not disrupt the squad like it was with Giles and McCallum. Would Reid be that bad a backup? I trust in Robins obviously but would like a another CM option at least until Kelly and Eccles areback

From what I saw Saturday It looked to me that Maatsen is more than capable of doing the business at LWB and could be even better after a few games and with JCS next to him on that basis I would prefer getting in an attacking midfielder ahead of LWB we need other options in that area imo.

Im guessing Kelly isn’t a million miles away if Goddens started today and they were both about the same distance away

I think Maatsen showed us yesterday what a good player he is and is going to be and with the left sided Salter-Clarke next to him will improve so do we need another on loan LWB ahead of another midfielder not sure we do, permanent maybe I don’t want a repeat of last season with two loaned in young LWBs one hardly being used at the expense of possibly an attacking midfield player to me that’s just a waste of a loan place.
Pretty good call I reckon

Given we changed our minds about loaning Reid back so he could be cover last season after Giles was recalled, what changes to stop him being the same this season?

could CC84 actually be Andy Turner? Has anyone ever seen them in the same room?
