More good vaccine news. End of September for full vaccination, which should only come forward with, I assume, more available vaccines and better infrastructure. All the vulnerable will be done by April time so we'll be in tiers then and I reckon almost no lockdown at all by June.

Will be interesting to see what the uptake is as we move forward. Is there a minimum uptake we need for the famed herd-immunity to kick in?

Flu vaccine uptake seems to run around 70-72% in the over 65s, assume this will be higher.

Is that the one developed in Birmingham? Saw a piece on Sky News about that and the science was pretty mind blowing. They reckoned they could catch the virus in the nose and then apply a coating which prevents it from causing infection.

It's a study out of Israel that says it only offer 33% protection instead of the 52% previously thought. Like the data to say the Kent variant is more fatal it is very incomplete but does need looking at. The only counter I've seen people use against it is a study of 1800 doctors in Haifa but that isn't a like for like comparison as it compares younger healthy people in one study to the over 60s in another.

My 74 year old Dad is booked in for this Friday for his jab in Blackpool.

"Peace of mind for you" I say.

Who was it that was asking about getting the Jab at C&NW? My mum had hers earlier today and said it is currently running like clockwork.

You turn up and a door can takes your name and temp. You then go to the reception area where they book you in on the computer, next it's in for the jab and then a sit down for 15 minutes and home.
She was in and out before her actual appointment time

I honestly don’t know but I’m assuming you can’t mix n match with the virus, ie: if you receive the Pfizer vaccine for your first jab then only the Pfizer will work for the follow up and the same with the AstraZeneca etc.
Or am I wrong, can any of the 2nd doses be used ?

Of all the things that have gone wrong in the last year, it's a hell of a relief to see this going so well (touch wood)

My mum should be due in the next round of eligibility and although I'll feel much better when she's a few weeks after the second dose, it'll be a massive weight off just to know she's had the first

One uses mutated chimp virus the other just uses the viral RNA, they produce the same effect but in quite different ways. It is much better to be consistent as that’s what each was studied with.

That’s what I mean, I’ve not seen it mentioned anywhere.
if the same vaccine is needed for 1st and 2nd dose it puts a lot more pressure on making sure of availability,
With them pushing back 2nd doses up to 12 weeks I hope they’re absolutely confident that the particular vaccine needed for 2nd doses will be available in 12 weeks time.

I find Laurence Fox an odd one. I fully supported his stance on the QT episode, and actually sought out his views initially, to find that I had some acceptance of what he was saying. But now, like Hartley-Brewer it's as if being objectionable is just another form of income. He has tipped over into the tithead category for me.

3 weeks is the recommended interval by the manufacture. That study assumes all vaccines work the same.

Yes please, i suspect there will come a time this Spring when things begin to open up and travel is permitted, we run a pub for a living so not envisaging being able to open for at least a couple of months afterwards.
Hopefully should be left with a window of opportunity to take a break of some kind,
