That can't be right

Surely not. I know exponential growth can accelerate numbers quickly… but if that’s accurate already then we are in the shit big time, and there is a fuck load of infections going undetected.

We know covid doesn't realy effect the younger generation so jabbing and boosting an 18-30's isn't going to help this. It's a massive waste of NHS time and money. That could be spend on capacity.

Tell that to the two 15 year olds that died a week apart from each other both same school, yes younger maybe healthier but dont mean they're not dying.

I reckon its guesswork. The ONS do figures for what they think is the level of infection is the UK, looks like the last figures were 891,500. Have they tried to work something up from there based on how much more transmissible it is and percentage of positive tests that are the new variant?

He said it in the commons earlier and there was confusion and it was assumed a mistake was made, like you say.

But they appear to have confirmed it this evening.

Maybe it would be handy to have the old rate per 100k published for each area again,compare like for like historical data.

The point is, nobody has died from it. Yet again this morning there's been incorrect information sent to people as headline news.

It's almost as if some people have their fingers crossed for it.

There are currently 10 people in hospital with the Omicron variant of COVID - not 250, as Dominic Raab told Sky News.

The deputy prime minister later told the BBC that there were nine people in hospital with the variant.

But officials have clarified that Mr Raab "misspoke" on both occasions by getting his figures wrong and that there are currently 10 people in hospital with Omicron.

"Yeah but there probably will be 250 at some point so it's fine" is the logic some have on here.

I do agree about the need for government and media to be transparent and factual though. Like when hospitalisations were mentioned yesterday’s between 18-85 years old...that’s handy ! Were they hospitalised due to variant or already in hospital ? Had they been vaccinated and/or even boostered ?! These are really important questions/answers for when people are making decisions on going about their daily lives

Hopefully better info and data will come out later this week

They are very vague for a reason.

I think I saw that they were found to be positive in Hospital and mostly vaccinated.

Stuff like that doesn't make headlines to get everybody scared and backing covid passports though does it?

They have reported this one Omicron death in the same way that all Covid deaths are reported which is 'deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test'. They never say died of Covid.
