He's not questioning the people who work for the nhs ffs. Selected immigration is a good thing for this country ie getting the best foreign doctors and nurses to come and work here. He's on about the rest that we dont need putting unnecessary pressure on the nhs/schools/housing etc. But you know this already dont you. It's not unbelievable for me to say whenever I walk into the walk in centre for example I can hardly here an English accent. Why is that? Before you start resorting to the usual nazi rhetoric why is that? Are they always ill? After all they only make up a small percentage of the population.
Correct. About 25,000 people in the UK applied to work on farms. Less than 200 got a job so far.
A company chartered a flight to bring these workers in. Are you saying there isn't 150 people in the UK that can do the job?
You should be in government, I’m amazed that no one has thought of doing this before. No what the government should of done was select 150 or however many needed of the long term dole dossing scroungers we have here and make them earn some of their universal credit.
Germany flying in 80000 Romanians and Poles to pick strawberries and asparagus atm. Austria desperately trying to find East European Labour as well.Too many people yet we've had to fly a load of fruit and veg pickers in from Romania this week.
Something's not right.
But aren’t most of the Labour Party too,Minted 2/3 homes as well eg Corbyn,McDonnell,Lady Nugee,Starmer they’ve all got several homes.
Tory/Labour they’re all in it together!!
Like I said earlier some people should be forced ie the ones who take the piss with benefits. Problem is though the likes of tony will moan about their rights whilst at the same time moaning about having to import foreign workers.
One of my daughters had to spend a couple of days in Walsgrave last year (nothing serious) and the first thing that dawned on me while sitting in a corridor for 3 hours waiting for her to come out of theatre was who is going to clean the hospitals after Brexit? Most of the immigrants working for the NHS wouldn't be allowed in under Priti vacants new points system.
That I dont agree with. Them not being allowed in I mean. Most of the immigrants working for the NHS wouldn't be allowed in under Priti vacants new points system.
Standard mature response as usual. You should be in government, I’m amazed that no one has thought of doing this before.
What's wrong with clamping down on both?I'm more worried about the 4 billion lost to tax evasion than the 200 million.lost to benefit fraud to be honest
I'll worry about the latter when they've sorted out the former

Do we actually have enough slack in the British workforce to make it up though? We have had record lows in unemployment for a good while now and agri jobs have a lot of competition. People have choices and the right to choose whatever job they A) want to apply for and B) what they want to accept.Crazy that we can’t get UK workers to do this though. Ultimately I’d imagine pay will have to increase to attract more people to manual agri jobs (may lead to increases in prices but so be it, it’s what should be happening)
Also, what are the kids doing for cash these days ? I used to pick up litter around the local golf course for a few quid when I was younger
People don't like piecework. Most of the seasonal harvesting work is that. Also comes down to geography in many cases in having to get large groups of people from urban to rural areas on a daily basis.Crazy that we can’t get UK workers to do this though. There was a time when European countries used to import British workers too. Anyone remember the sitcom Auf Wiedersehen Pet. Had a couple of uncles who went to work in Germany myself when I was a kid.Germany flying in 80000 Romanians and Poles to pick strawberries and asparagus atm. Austria desperately trying to find East European Labour as well.
Spain will continue using illegal immigrant labour.
UK been bringing in European labour for over 30 years. Used to be mainly students on short term visas.
Problem with a lot of commercial-scale operations is pickers living on the farms in dormitory accommodation - not conducive to social distancing etc.
They still do to some extent. My brother occasionally goes to Germany to work on the wind turbines over thereThere was a time when European countries used to import British workers too. You volunteering then?Of course you did.
Most people on benefits need it. Clamping down on cheats is often used as an excuse to cut back on those who need it, without people complaining, rather than an active desire to root out the few.
This thread is still a shit show then...

Simple fact is that successive governments have been trying to do this for decades and your over simplified view of the world is actually very immature.Standard mature response as usual.
You know it mate. Not now playboy Tom is back....

Board and lodgings is usually taken out of what you earn from piecework too. Simple fact is that most British people won’t move temporarily to another part of the country to take home less than minimum wage (legally) when they have the option to stay at home and take home at least the minimum wage. It’s a no brainier for British people and that’s a compliment not a criticism.People don't like piecework. Most of the seasonal harvesting work is that. I don't know why we don't go full on down the euthenasia route .
What a drag on society that generation are .
Health, housing, monetary support, what a drain and lag on the test of society.
????Why do you always great stuff into posts that isn't there?
This long winded argument/discussion you've being having with other posters, Astute, just demonstrates to me perfectly why people will be waiting a long time if they want a Labour government ever again. I've seen people tearing strips out of floating voters, out of less left wing Labour voters... people they need onside to win an election. For a lot of people it seems to be project Corbyn or nothing.????
What isn't there?
Do you mean those who brought in 150 workers because there isn't anyone in the UK that would do it? Look back in his post.
It is amazing what is missed by those normally agreed with on here.
Yeah, was thinking about the motives around ending immigrationIsn’t that pretty much the Government’s strategy right now... especially for those people in care homes. Disgraceful.
Don't speak too soon. Unemployment is going to shoot up in the next 6 months. Most of Europe is going to be hit hard. And those reliant on exporting to other EU countries will then be hit hard as there will be less money around to purchase what they normally do.Do we actually have enough slack in the British workforce to make it up though? We have had record lows in unemployment for a good while now and agri jobs have a lot of competition. People have choices and the right to choose whatever job they A) want to apply for and B) what they want to accept.
Oh yes. The boomers that have had the best of everything.Yep, and most of the “long term unemployed scroungers” are 50-64 year old who can’t get hired due to ageism: https://www.peoplemanagement.co.uk/news/articles/over-50s-more-likely-to-face-long-term-unemployment
Yet again people making decisions based on fairy tales sold to them by the tabloids and not the real world.
