Seen a few cretins on facebook saying "I don't think Greece can afford to pick and choose" - I really think this country has got so obsessed with perceived wealth, it's fucking rotten.

The irony being Greece can’t afford to not pick and choose seeing how they’ve got on top of it. Not bad for the “poor man” of Europe. Just another measure of how incompetent our government is.

4 new categories -
1) Did they do the work set since March?

If Spain did the same it might actually have a greater political impact than the 60k + deaths, but I reckon it'll very quickly end up being spun as some sort of brexit related spite.

Going by this winding down of the furlough, it’s clear that they are banking everything on this vaccine working! Let’s fucking pray it does...

Good that they aren’t making companies pay anything back till September though apart from pensions in August

They don't care about a vaccine, they're banking on the docile public believing them that they're relatively safe, even though the threat level is still 4.

Bollocks, we’ll find out if the vaccine works by the start of July.... to say they don’t care about a vaccine is just stupid, we’ve spent more than anybody trying to find one

By July, they'll have results from on set of testing. They then have to do the testing again and again.

You're utterly utterly deluded if you think there will be

1. An effective vaccine by July tested sufficiently for sign off.
2. If in the incredibly unlikely of 1) happening, a programme of vaccination this year

I didn’t fucking say it will be out by July did I, I said they will know if it works and they will do, that’s why we’re mass producing it ready for September

They won't k ow if it works by the end of july.

They will know if it might work. They would then have to repeat the study multiple times to see if they get the same results.

There won't be any vaccine in September either.
That's an unrealistic time frame according to every expert I've listened to and that's before you throw government incompetence into the mix.
Best case is if this Ebola drug works but even then 3 months is hopeful.

It sounds very Boris like to spend millions on something that might not be of use. Where have you read that though?

Are you sure?!?

It'd be absolute madness to mass produce something that might not even work!

The fella running the project said having it ready for the end of 2020 is an ambitious target.
Although he did say the more cases the more test data the earlier they'll know if it works so Johnson's save Cummings strategy might just help out with that

They’re producing a million vaccines IIRC in September in case it does work. It’s called at risk production or something like that.

What's the cost? Seems like absolute insanity to me... although I suppose 1mil in terms of the wider context of the population is next to nothing.

Not sure of the costs to date although the government has pumped tens of millions in. The U.K. is part of a wider WHO consortium so the U.K. will only get a percentage of whatever is produced.
