I thought o'brien did ok today but he wasn't tested. Not seen his shot stopping ability yet.
Best thing today for me was the competitive midfield...Doyle and Kelly didn't give an inch and organised the team around them. McDonald looks v good at this level. Jones decision making was spot on and he was very calm in front of goal.

Does anyone follow that Sideways Sammy goon on twitter. Says we were dreadful for long portions of the second half, O'Brien looked nervy, Doyle couldn't pass and Hyam looked a liability. Anyone would have thought we had lost 3-0 not won 3-0!
Saw that, some people are never happy. Its L2 what are they expecting.

Got back to the car and put the phone in on and the first thing I heard was someone moaning about the performance so I turned it off again.

I was happy with his handling and decision making. That could have saved shots being made. And the idea is stopping shots being made.

I wasnt sure if he was a catcher or not till 2nd half when he made some vital claims. Hes quick.off his line too and a good kicker so i guess its just shot stopping that we dont knoe about . Hopefully we wont find out for a while yet!

More than happy with that. They are expected to be up there at the end of the season so a 3-0 win is a cracking result.

Get my moans out of the way first. The organisation at the Ricoh seems to be going backwards. No hot food. Chap by me got turned away from the car park as it was apparently full, got sent to an offsite car park which was closed! And do some bloody maintenance on the place, its only a few years old, shouldn't look in the state it does and I shouldn't be getting soaked when it rains when I'm sat under cover.

On to the match, first thing I noticed was that someone appeared to have forgotten to paint the sidelines. In fact the pitch doesn't look in great condition overall, bit worrying for the first game of the season. Hope its just cosmetic.

When the team eventually came out have to say that kit looks bloody good on them. Robins seemed to have them well drilled. Mad that a load of new players can look more organised then we did for most of last season. Kept it simple but thats fine with me. Some nice 1-2s going on and McDonald has a pass on him, should make good use of that. We're still shit at throw ins.

They were lucky with the way the ball fell for the shot that hit the post. Although they had more pressure in the second half, which is to be expected when behind, never really felt they were getting close to scoring. We also seemed able to break out a lot better than last year when the ball would just come straight back at us.

Well taken goals by Jodi, he's posted pics on his twitter with the signed match ball and looks very happy with himself. Pleased for him, hopefully a big confidence boost. Got to admit Doyle had a good game, wasn't a fan when he was here before but could be just what we need in L2. O'Brien's distribution is better than Burge / RCC when he has time but doesn't seem so good under pressure, a couple of low clearances that could go anywhere. Nobody stood out as having a bad game really.

Ref was useless, needed to clamp down at the start on their tactics. On the plus side it didn't seem to bother us too much, another change from recent seasons.

Looking forward to Tuesday now.

Its comical, 5 minutes moaning then they get asked if they were at the match 'no but I listened on the radio'.
Even more comical due to the fact that they will have based their views on Clive Eakin talking of this good pass, or that great tackle in the game and half the time he makes the mistake of talking about the completely incorrect player. He'll say it was Beavon when it was in fact McNulty and that is was Hyam when in fact it was McDonald etc.

Surprised people are even able to know who we are playing. Yesterday at one point he said Notts County had just scored to go one nil up against Stevenage (he meant Newport).

Our defence won't come up against many awkward strike pairings like stead and ameobi .
Dealt with them relatively well

all about opinions, but I thought they were poor. Hope your right because if that's one of the better strike forces and we kept a clean sheet then it bodes well.

But was it they were poor or we played well as a unit?

Look at last season. We were poor up front. But how much of that was down to our midfield not creating much? Yesterday our midfield did well. All I remember was them hitting the post and not much more. They were reduced to the high ball. And our GK and defence coped quite well. Last season it would have been a different matter.

Thought it was refreshing to see our defenders being able to stand their ground with big powerful opposition forwards who tried to intimidate them

Great to see a team that has a plan and are all on the same page. Lots of justified praise all round, but I was particularly impressed with O'Brian...what I mean by that is that I never felt anxious when the ball went to him...in the second half he claimed a lot of challenging crosses where Burge would have punched...I feel we have a decent GK at last, and one who doesn't kick the ball into touch all the time...good stuff. Loved Vincenti too, barely missed a header! Lots of pluses!

Seriously, how can people moan after a 3-0 win?! I honestly think some people prefer us losing so they have something to complain about. I suspect all clubs have these kinds of fans but I think, given the (justified) ill feeling towards the owners, we have more than the average club.

Happy after yesterday we look a lot bigger and shouldn't be pushed around in this league, the only worry I have is that the two strikers are the same type of player both press on the defenders but seem poor when it really matters especially Beavon did he have a shot at goal?

I think McNulty, Beavon and Biamou are all similar. But the ones that started yesterday were the best option. McNulty and Biamou didn't really work that well for me pre season. Guess that's why by the time Biamou was coming on, Nazon was getting ready too (although perhaps McNulty's bloody nose played a part in both strikers going off too).

On the subject of Nazon, it's clearly early days of seeing him but maybe he can offer us the alternative that the others can't? Quick, pacey, tricky, not ball greedy, will run at defences?

Came up from London for the game, very happy that I did. Just going to jot down some of my thoughts here:

The Doyle and Kelly partnership in central midfield will be key for us. Watched the Luton-Yeovil highlights and for one of the Luton goals, Yeovil's two central midfielders both pulled out of a tackle on the Luton player and he waltzed through to score. Compare that to Kelly and Doyle who thundered into every challenge and took no shit from any opposition player. They might not create much, but what they'll do defensively is so important.

Concrete Rod looked great. Very assured, strong, a bit of pace, and a nice left foot. On the other hand, Hyam looks quite slow. If you're losing foot races to Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead then it's a no from me. Let's hope he's just not fit.

We need another quick winger to play opposite Jodi Jones. Vincenti can win headers, but he runs like a slower Peter Crouch. Was only one game, but I'd be much happier if he was a bench option rather than a full-time starter. Jones ran Notts ragged and if we can get someone similar on the right wing then we would destroy half the league.

Last thing - the fans were excellent. Let's hope we can average 10,000 for the season! PUSB.

Looks of stronger build than the others too (though apparently Biamou is slightly taller), which is another string to his bow.

Good start to the season against what was expected to be tricky opponents, and which leaves room for improvement (i mean that as a positive). Goals scored and a clean sheet. Confidence instilled in to the group and individually. Decent crowd that with consistently good results will increase. Got to maintain the drive consistency and momentum.

well done lads ! PUSB

Have you forgotten about our Duck? He looks strong, flies past defenders and can pick out a good pass.

Our defence and midfield looks solid. So he could be in front of them. Looks like he is capable of destroying most players in this Division.
