But wasn't it 'devestating' because we had the pace of Jodi Jones?

We now don't have any pace. Strategy like that surely wouldn't work tonight.

Jones was a devastating player because he could score or create a goal scoring opportunity from nothing. 100% he’s such a miss for us.

We’ve tried to play counter attacking football, and it’s worked all (calendar) year at home. We’ve only lost to Accrington. Swindon were head and shoulders above he rest in away form and we beat them handily.

Also, Luton aren’t playing as well as they were when we played them away - they haven’t won in 3 games and have surrendered 1st place, they look like they could capitulate (again) this season. Just watch them 4-0 us now I’ve said that haha.

Is Vincenti injured again or just not favoured?

Right midfield has been a real problem this season. Thought Vincenti would have made that position his own with his experience at a higher level. DeKE hasn’t looked up to it nor have the two loanees.

With Baker not match fit and the others not favoured by the manager, it will most likely be Bayliss wide right again which is a problem as he isn’t a winger.

Totally agree on this, and more so tonight it's a real issue.

Bayliss to me looks like he needs a break. His decision making Saturday was of a player in need of a rest.

If Vincenti is fit tonight he has to play for me and pick out JCH or McNulty with some nice slipped through passes or cross field balls.

we have certainly got to play better defensively than we did on saturday? else we will get a stuffing in my opinion. in fact i say bring back stokes and play him with reid on the left

I agree. Thought Haynes was poor on Saturday and our defence was all over the place in that first half.

I would be inclined to bring both Willis and Stokes in for Hyam and Haynes. Stokes and Reid is a lot stronger left side that Haynes and Reid.

If Bayliss is tired I would play Vincenti on the right.

If Shipley is fit I would consider moving Reid to the bench. He played well in that first half, but would be a very good option off the bench for the last 20 mins or so.

Depends what approach Robins wants to adopt, either have a go at them or hold tight and hope to squeeze a 1-0.

How will Baker ever play again unless he's given the opportunity to 'competitively kick a ball' despite not doing so for months?

We never have chance to throw players on to build up fitness, we need to be comfortably in the lead to be able to do it and we never are.

He did. Took me by surprise to be honest, because we pretty much didn't see that from him last time he was here

I think that was mainly down to the fact he had options. I no longer think he has any. Or, more likely, he realises he’s not doing too bad at Coventry City.

It's £22 if you don't sit in the Premium Zone. Not saying it's great or not having a go, just trying to convince a fellow Sky Blue to be there :)

Its even better when you pay £22 for a ticket in the standard zone, but decide to sit in the premium zone

Jones scored 2 in 18 after the opening game of the a season, a good player and missed but hardly devastating. I disagree that we play counter attacking football too. We end up doing it in periods against Notts County, Luton and in the December/January home games but the real common theme in all those games was an early first half goal, all within the first 20 minutes, which then opened the games up and most of them with Bayliss playing in the middle. We haven't got that balance right against the likes of Barnet all season. Our style works well when we go ahead but we don't do enough to get ahead in the first half of games (3 first half goals away this season) creating this feeling of 'nicking it'.

But he also had 6 assists, so his 5 goals and 6 assists over 19 games is still, as of today, responsible for 29% of our goals. To put that into perspective, he's been injured for nearly 20 games and he's still responsible for over a quarter of our goals - his goals vs Port Vale and Lincoln were match winners too. This isn't even including chances created and so on or his general impact on the team's play. One of the reasons everyone took to Bayliss because he 'carries' the ball and he's filled a void, somewhat, since Jones was injured. You cannot understate his impact on this team, we've tried multiple options on the right, and we've ended up going with Bayliss.

I think we haven't got the balance right because we don't really have any balance in the players available. Andreu and Jones were to be or main attacking midfielders - combined, they made 24 games, barely half a season between them. After Nazon left and before JCH, we more or less solely lied on McNulty for goals. Our defenders, all of them, have failed to register a single goal since Grimsby away! Our second and third top scorers this season either aren't at the club or injured.

Differences in tonight's game versus away fixture

Jones Pace releasing the pressure from defence
Shipley was more adventurous in those games moving the ball quicker (mainly to Jones)
Luck - Could get the same again
Burge - MOM at times with 3 critical saves - Again - need tonight
Flat playable pitch
Doyle doesn't look as fit as he was then

I don't see us winning, I see this being like the Accrington game and us being taught a lesson, I hope I'm wrong,

Bayliss has been poor for 5 or 6 games. Granted he's not a right hand midfielder but even so his play as been rather sloppy.

If I remember rightly, Jones didn't play that well against Luton.
Biamou had his best 10 minutes when he came on in an attacking midfield role and played a huge part in the two goals late on.

The rest of the reasons don't matter. You could argue that McNulty is a far better player for us than he was back them. We have JCH and Bayliss now playing for us.

He's clearly filling a gap of the right wing that's been a issue to plug but I agree he's not looked the same player lately and needs a rest.

Twice Saturday he had the option to shoot first time, and he didn't. Little things like that are coming into his game so needs the break from the 1st team. That's not due to him playing out of position, that's over exposure to too much football.

Or worrying about his next contract...?

... a lovely worry to have!

Nah I don't think he's taken his eye off the ball here. He's agent will be looking after the future which is bright but I feel he's in need of a rest.

Time for Peter Vincenti to come back in if fit.

As we have seen on many occasions Robins doesn't like games to be open so it will definitely be Doyle and Kelly in the midfield to protect as usual, I am back for this so no shirking for me tonight although I guess I will feckin freeze to death

I have predicted a 0-2. All depends on how we set up.

If we defend like we did on Saturday we will be thrashed out of sight.

Need to put in one of very best performances of the season I feel to win this one.

I know Luton have wobbled, but they were first palace from November until just this last Saturday just gone. They are undoubtedly one of the very best teams in this division.

A draw would be excellent. Keeps the unbeaten run going and places in us back into the playoff positions, with Crewe to come on Saturday.

Given that we generally seem to raise the game against the perceived bigger teams I'm going to take confidence from that, hope the players do to .
Therefore 2-0 tonight.

Just a thought but does anybody else think Biamou could play on the right, i could see him doing a job there.

We will set up 442

A Draw would good result, unfortunately we will play a lot better than we did against Barnet and probably Draw/lose. Win this one, and then id say Play offs are guaranteed and we may even get a pop at Autos!

All the pressure is on Luton for me on this one. Badish run by their standards. The doubts from last year maybe creeping in..Who knows! Should be a cracking game unlike the other games seen at Ricoh this season, they will come to attack (their defence is iffy as is their keeper).

Willis should definitely come in for me and Shipley if hes fit in place of Reid.

2-2 - 9350 Attendance.

Just had a look at tonights referee.
Craig Breakspear .
We had him for the 2-1 away win at Swindon, anyone remember ?
39 games officiated so far, 141 yellows, 15 reds .
Last two games just the three yellows ,pray that continues as many come in clusters, a few games where it's gone as high as 6 and 7, even a 9 in there.
5 or 6 double reds in there too, beware Doyle!
