I am in a very average looking pub and I've just been charged £5.50 for 1 pint!

Pub is packed as well.

The Farmhouse? Stopped on way home from work. It's more expensive than the Village - I went here as I thought it would be cheaper!

Ahh ha!! My plan worked. i told them as soon as they saw you walk through the door to charge you double!!

Blimey not even a hardly scenic place!

Haven't been there for a while food was ok last time nothing amazing despite decent reviews.

Well no. When I purchased it the guy smiled and offered me an instant payday loan. When I handed him the cash he muttered "no one in Coventry can afford these prices"

Wonder If Its to deter drinkers over people who are to eat or even subsidise the food side
Of course as Otis has vaguely alluded to, he may briefed them about your views on Coventry and there may be an outsiders surcharge.

Cov's dire for decent food and drink places in any sort of close proximity, got an old travelling buddy coming up from the West Country next weekend with his fiancé trying to decide where to go I've given up on Cov & opted for a night out over in Kenilworth instead.

Yeah, I can blame Daz for putting it up on GMK ;) I went, and was underwhelmed.

OK, but... OK.

Haha think I went a similar time
To him originally got caught out in all the hype (think the dessert platter sharer, not shared with Daz) did it, went back they had binned that off the menu and the food was a lot poorer and the staff all looked miserable as sin!

Peroni is bloody expensive everywhere.....not too sure why......it is not that good a beer ....after I was charged £6.95 for a pint
of it once in London vowed to never buy it again but still do now and again when I forget....it is expensive even in cheap bars!!

That's not quite true, there are plenty of decent food and drink runs around CV1, not if you want Michelin star but decent enough. One we do is drinks in the Old Windmill, Gatehouse, Town Wall Tavern and steaks at 'Artisan' all a short walk from each other with a quality car park on site.

Is that all round spon street sort of area?

No mate, if you are driving you park at Belgrade Plaza car park just off the inner ring road which is safe and monitored and all those places are a short walk from there. All pubs have decent real ale at good prices { The Old Windmill is on Spon St which is quite impressive for visitors } and the restaurant does a fabulous steak in a nice enough setting with good service.
Another option we sometimes take is the Phoenix pub on Gosford St by the university { Just spent £270,000 on that one }, followed by a walk up past the cathedral to 'The Establishment' which is another fancy bar in the old Court room and then for dinner and with a bit more historical stuff you could walk over by the old grammar school and priory ruins to Priory square and eat at The PGR restaurant which is on an Italian theme and well decked out with nice views.

Cheers. Never venture to the Belgrade side.

Phoenix is the old Campbell? Never been a fan popped in for a drink about 3 months ago seemed to be the same, not my type of place.

Went to establishment for food a year ago have to say it was a shocker all 4 meals horrendous didn't bother saying anything though.

Original plan was food around earlsdon but not a curry house which rules out a fair bit(but found its again gone down hill rapidly) few drinks down there before heading up to establishment.
But it's like a grown up disco after 10 was hoping for something a bit more chilled & casual.

Hence why I think Kenilworth is a bit more of a safe bet.

Yeah Windmill is decent, as is Gatehouse (which also does a half decent sandwich if I remember right, if you just fancy something large filling and cheap). Haven't been to Town Wall in a while, but told it's pretty good now.

Not a fan of the Poenix though, it'd be Whitefriars for that side of town.

Also admit to not eating in Cov beyond cheap and cheerful for a while. Must admit I'd rather pick a country pub for food if I'm going to do that.

Kenilworth is far better for eating out and is a far more relaxed and enjoyable experience. Also more choice incredibly.

More choice in Kenilworth to eat? You sure about that? I can't believe that at all. 47 new eating establishments have opened up in Coventry in the last year alone.

How many times have you eaten out in Kenilworth?

I can't believe there is more choice. Kenilworth is fine for eating out, but it's very small in comparison to Coventry city centre.

Last time we went we went to Zizzi, which I quite like. Nice restaurant there.

3 times I would say in the last 2 years.

Well it has two Indian restaraunts that offer vastly superior food to any I've tried in Coventry, a Pizza chain that is a superior demographic to those in Coventry, a gastro pub that is pricey but hands down better than Coventry, a Thai, a steakhouse, a Mediterranean that is excellent, a Chinese (never tried) and a wine bar just opening. There are others on the high street as well.

It's a far superior dining experience than anywhere I've tried in Coventry. Coventry is cheap and cheerful - inside the ring road I cannot think of one decent eating establishment. We were recommended an Indian around the Radisson / Butts area - it was expensive and distinctly average.

Ridiculous that somewhere as small as Kenilworth has 8 curry houses all in view of each other near enough, but a big fan of the other options, zizzi's, ego, even Subway in Kenilworth offers the sweetcorn with the salad option unlike Cov!

You really don't like Coventry at all do you.

What you said is there is more choice and that is just not true unfortunately.

Akbars? Was superb when it opened had about 7-8 curries from there I was recommending it to everyone then don't know what changed but they were awful!

There's quite a few curry places in Cov city centre too.
