There is room for a psychological study on why people are so angry with Labour when they haven't been in power for 11 years. Most of the media coverage tonight has been about Labour, when really the focus should be on the Tory victories. Very odd. It reminds me of the day City beat Liverpool 4 - 0. It suggests to me that people want the Labour party to be better so they can like them again. Very odd but an opportunity.

But Evo votes Labour. It does feel a bit rough on him slamming him with the “why the Tories” question repeatedly when he’s said as much.

Still a question that needs answering by someone though. As stated, you can vote for Lib Dem, Green, could even just not vote. So to flip completely to the other side of the coin and vote Tory is just...odd.

It’s a by-election. Turnout is always down. Same reason the Tory vote went from 22k to 15k.

Absolutely agree people can do what they want. However the question has been repeatedly asked in recent weeks what it is about the Conservatives that makes people vote for them and so far the answers have been lots of reasons to not vote Labour and nothing about why the Conservatives appeal.

If it was all about policies etc then more people would vote Labour but they don't.

The left is fractured between 3 or 4 parties , the centre/ right isn't.

Liverpool voted in favour of Remaining in the EU. Labour is haemorrhaging votes in areas that are working class and voted Leave i.e. the Red Wall seats.

If the current trend of Brexit Party votes in 2019 being distributed 3/4 to 1 to the Tories, the situation is bleak for Labour.

Why would it be?

The bigger headline is obviously Labour losing council seats up and down the country and a by-election in a constituency that was considered a ‘safe seat’.

Pockets of Labour performing well should not detract from a fundamentally bad election night.

The party is in real danger of ceasing to be a meaningful political force after the next election if the current trends continue.
