Very interesting and contrary to the Tory claims it is far from a ‘failed left wing policy’.

Not even a left wing policy, Thatcher muse and far right economic loon Milton Friedman was a fan as well, but called it negative income tax.

Daddy Boris says it’s bad though so no doubt his fanboys will too.

If only Keir had the balls to take policies like that and frame them from a right wing perspective

Yeah. He only likes money being handed out if it's to him or his mates. Why on earth would the plebs deserve money?

She should certainly at least be in the shadow cabinet. Said before there’s too many decent politicians on the back benches of both major parties (and plenty of poor ones on the front benches !)

I doubt most labour supporters on here wouldnt want her either

In a heartbeat. She’s so articulate and speaks with authority and seems to understand how the country works

Bet a lot wouldnt - most look at her and see a Blairite who would ditch the left of the party

With UBI, it’s an interesting idea.

I’d like to see more trials on a larger scale, but if you could cut all bureaucracy of means tested benefits and replace all other benefits with UBI... Maybe it could be a good and popular policy.

Hancock is very angry this morning. Wow. And emboldened by his position. I’m trying to be balanced but he does piss me off

I can’t help thinking he makes it up as he goes along.

April 9th figures shown for Bangladesh Pakistan and India. India much worse

He then pulls a rabbit out to say the figure they used were the positivity rate of people coming into the uk. Where are these figures or have you just made that up and know it won’t be followed up or if it is it will be forgotten cause it’s easy to use hindsight to prove people wrong

So annoying

In theory Universal Credit could have been a simplification of the benefits system bringing them all together under one payment. But as usual it turned into a sham because it wasn’t done properly.

Why the hell is Yvette Cooper not leading the Labour Party

Has even less charisma than Starmer. She was terrible in the 2015 leadership campaign. Comes across as patronising and mummy and has literally no vision for the country other than shouting “high tech jobs”, which lost my vote as her answer to say care workers being underpaid was them to retrain as software devs or whatever.

Blair without the charisma basically.

Well she performed very well this morning

More virtue signalling and diversity quotas from the government, with some added patronising for people north of the Watford gap, I bet the usuals will lap it up:

When challenged over the risk of lifting the restrictions he fell back on his fact that much of the population had received their first vac dose and that there was up to 97% efficacy, therefore the impact of the Indian variant would be much less than for the Kent variant over winter.

The latest study in the British Medical Journal, published last Thursday, shows that the Astra Zeneca vaccine, that many of us have had, in fact has between 80-85% efficiency depending on type.

If this becomes a third fuck up over the pandemic, it's going to damage them hard.

It won’t. None of the other fuck ups make a difference as the lapdogs come out in force to defend them. Going to an indoor restaurant to enjoy that while it lasts and until he cancels my wedding

I think quite some grace was given to them for being slow off the mark on the first round, and I have no confidence whatsoever that a government of different colour might have done things differently. I think the second event crept up on even the experts but then, when it had hit all it the face, Boris decided to sacrifice bodies rather than be accused of cancelling Christmas. This time round they are firmly in receipt of the advice in a timey way but it's clear that they are set on a course that protects the economy above the widespread impact it will have on health. I do think that if this turns out badly they will be significantly damaged.

Assuming I still get married in mid July every guest over 18 will have been jabbed and at least half will have had two. I’m sorry, how much longer must we continue denying people experiences particularly as the proportion remaining unvaccinated are those at the lowest risk of serious illness?

I guess it's the number of deaths you deem acceptable in order for you to enjoy a shindig? Dunno, one thousand, maybe?
