And there you go again, anyone who dares to disagree with you has low standards.
Careful how you dismount that high horse!

I think the anti vax shite you posted before disqualifies you from comment to be honest

You should stop digging. Telling someone what's important on their wedding day is not a good look.
I put a post up once, then deleted it. It was the best day despite everything, about the only day during the past two and a half years when I have photos of people looking genuinely happy. I wouldn't change doing it for the world but my, the stress of worrying if it'd be cancelled *again* in the run-up,the remebering of the sliding scale of what we thought we could do, from full thing, to restricted numbers, to just us... to nothing. On a financial level, the cash I've lost on my hospitality. If only I'd known, I'd have diverted it to 10 Downing Street so at least somebody would have got some use from it!

However... Mrs Wisdom is a shy, quiet lass. I found out just the other week in fact, that the reason I'm having to organise just about everything in life going forward is because the one thing she did organise, her wedding, didn't happen and so she can't bring herself to try and do anything else - it's ended up paralysing her somewhat. That's a bit unfortunate when I've needed her to organise some help for me but hey, at least I know now, and can understand. That's made the past few weeks easier, because then I understand.

Psychological effects on many things, for many people. But we kept to the rules, because that's what you do isn't it, look out for other people? Do your best to pick the right choice, sometimes get it wrong, but try and put others first.

But... keep to the rules, and now have big regrets in doing so because the leader of the country clearly thought they weren't important, clearly thought I didn't matter.

So... want order going forward? Give me a leader who shows the slightest modicum of sincerity in what he says.

But yeah, self-righteous.

I think in response to the name-calling it was justified, but also nothing to do with you and your big shit-stirring stick.

Byeeeee, enjoy your summer PVA, it's been emotional.

Congratulations on taking the thread's Top Cap Doffer status off Grendel.

A seriously impressive/embarrassing display this afternoon, well done.

I'm more sympathetic to Otis and his mum's funeral. A wedding could be held any time and is about the bride and groom not how many attendees, but if that was the most important factor you could have chosen to wait.

Of course. Our wedding fell 3 days short of the ‘no restrictions’ date, our venue told us we had to move it to the following week. In that intervening week my gran suddenly dropped dead. We then had to go through the process of making sure her seat was removed, food not ordered, all suppliers to be aware etc. It was bloody horrible.

Guess you look a bit of a prick on this particular topic. I mean, at the same time we were being told not to dance at weddings they let tens of thousands get pissed at the football and the races.

My understanding is only one person was fined from that gathering, not many. The moment captured at the front where he's clearly giving a speech, you have no idea how long he was or wasn't there but have made your mind up on snapshot because it suits your agenda.

Duffer believes the Met are bent - he’s a moron best pity and ignore

And all of those things you listed above are more important than the guests at your wedding, but guess what, I don't know you or read every post on this thread to know how you or anybody else suffered and I'd not have responded in such a crass manner as I didn't to Otis had you mentioned any of those instead, but you chose to highlight the wedding.

I think I'll leave this now, it's not good for my sanity and we're unlikely to agree or with anyone else. In fact this thread is a bit like Eastenders, you can miss hundreds of episodes but then catch up in about 5 minutyes later on. I'll leave you all to your arguing and be back to see what's happened when the footie season starts over.

I may have a small gathering and a few beers over the summer which I think is ok now, hopefully no fines.

Toodlepip.
I shouldn't really have to bare my life on a football message board, and nor should anybody else, for it to be blindingly obvious that a far number of people, in many different ways, have suffered through this.

And yes, that includes the people who've ended up breaking lockdown rules for the greater good of other people, the people who've been desperate for it to end.

As it happens, if I'd waited to hold my wedding now, my Mum wouldn't have been able to make it.

We've got a blessing coming up in September, it was supposed to be the faux wedding with invited guests, but some have died, split up, gained new partners... not the same.

And I don't really know how I'll do it without my Mum or Dad there, but I have to, for Mrs Wisdom, who sacrificed *her* family being at the actual day. For me.

Not at all. If it was illegal, prosecute. If it wasn't move on. You do realise that outside your union picket lines, many of us work in large open plan offices. Occasionally a board member or manager might call a halt whilst they address the office on any range of subjects and I'd suggest someone leaving falls into that category, but of course PVA knows best.

Yeah. I'm not sure about your point but I've worked in private industry for ooh, twenty or thirty years. And yes, sometimes we send someone off with a big speech from a senior manager.

We don't normally do it in a small room with a load of booze and crisps though, maybe our workplace is just a bit more professional than yours or Number 10.

In lockdown, we had two long serving employees leave (40 years service between them, from memory).

We postponed their leaving drinks and farewell speeches because it clearly wasn't appropriate within the rules. We generally try to obey the law in our office!

Let's be honest for a moment here; your defence of Boris here has nothing to do with the specific event. He's already been found guilty elsewhere, and like most of the Tory party, it didn't bother you. This doesn't bother you either, you'd feel the same whether he got another FPN or not.

Like Boris, you don't really care about the law being broken or the lies to Parliament, all that matters is keeping power. I'd have a bit more respect if you just admitted it.

I'll be honest too. Boris is an absolute liability to the Tory party, someone who quite blatantly undercuts the supposed core values of the party and exposes the hypocrisy at its heart.

He's going to cost you millions of votes in the end, so politically I'd kind of like him to stick around.

However, I also believe in standards in elected office that are more important than any of that - and a law that treats everyone equally regardless of wealth or position. That ought to be politically neutral imho, but clearly it isn't any more.

Johnson stood and had drinks in the No. 10 garden while wedding guests were told they couldn’t. 10,000 people could do it at horse races but one of the most important days of your life? Nah, forget it. Just go down the registry office.

Ooh look at me, I'm more righteous than you are.

who can shout 'look at the nasty tories over there' first or loudest? Echo chamber. Boring.

Can't make an actual point, looks like I'm losing this one, so I'll shout something and run away. Tedious.

No, and this arguably looks worse for the Met than the PM.

They're going to be facing some serious questions over the coming days.

If the Starmer investigation can be reopened then so can this one.

So did Dominic Cummings breach Covid rules?

so now it’s the police in on it as well - but not in Durham it seems

Nothing to do with partygate. That report was out long before and has its roots in events in 1987.
They're bent regardless of what's going on with Johnson and Her Majesty's inspectorate agrees.

well I know that but to now suggest there is a grand cover up in Westminster is fantasy island time isn’t it. Even that sanctimonious piece of dog shit Sadiq Khan will jump on the bandwagon soon - oh wait he already had

Well it wasnt the choice of Otis but the official administering it

Johnson’s main crime is signing off dumb and stupid laws that were pointless

I went to a funeral where a load turned up had to stand outside while a speaker system played the service and everyone outside were huddled near each other

The hypocrisy is there as well as there is zero difference in Johnson and Starmer here is there? Unless extended your arm out in a cheers mode is more likely to give Covid than not. I’ll have to see what the science says on that.
Course it was

Well that's not something I've said. Though its clear Johnson has flouted his own rules and it's embarrassing that people are defending him.

Do you have any evidence to suggest they are?

Well no but then that means Mr Starmer is a liar doesn’t it

This is of course all jolly good fun but let’s be real for one second and not in the SBT playground

If say Johnson slashed income tax tomorrow and we rode out the crises and everyone was better off he could have had lap dancers on expenses at this “party” abs he’d win the next election. He could have lived like a monk during it and the county is a basket case and he will lose it

That’s real politics

That's a lovely hypothetical situation. But in the real world he's done the partying and the country is a basket case.

I don't know. I keep thinking back to Thatcher, and marvel at the incongruity that he's placed on the throne by people who worship her on steroids, yet she's everything she'd have hated - wet, wooly, weak, in an Eton bubble.

Winning the war didn't help Churchill win of course, and there is an argument that Labour does better when the country is relatively stable, as people have more disposable income, and are more willing to share it around as a result.

It's as long as his facade stays in place really. In London it was a humungous battle for him to be elected a second time, and he was against a rather... eccentric candidate then, too. He seems to have some hold over some, and the teams thing definitely comes over, which is utterly bizarre really, as in many of his values and idologies, he's not a Tory at all!

Well of course thatcher would have thought he was an absolute clown

She’d have a decisive view and get on with it - he won’t. He could but he won’t
