No actually, he never once said to park it because he was at the back

May whinge and moan, but never done that
He was at the back, way behind the next driver, his car was damaged, and he was thinking about saving the engine for the next race. the team told him he could still get points, and you saw what happened after that.

I think it was more thinking ahead than anything else. His tone was full of disappointment, naturally, but a sensible option for the team to consider imho.

We will have to disagree then as its not the first time he has done it

Great drive from him and for the first time in a while he showed just how good he is even in a car that isn't that good.

But his bitchfits when in situations like that saying 'we may aswell park it' have happened a few times.

Never heard that from the likes of Senna and Schumacher

After the first race optimism I'm actually a bit disappointed. Have we had a race since then where there has been a concerted challenge at the top - Verstappen 3 dnfs, leclerc 2 dnfs and 1 nursing the car home? For all the talk of competitive racing winning margins of top teams still hugely clear of the rest. Red Bull new Mercedes where their car atm is way clear of the pack.

Valid point tbf

We've had a few occasions where max and Leclerc have battled but not on the level of last year

nice view, but not sure you can back it up as fact

Yea kudos to Lewis, fantastic drive

Showed his childish side again though, asking to retire after 2 laps cus he was at the back.

Its that stuff that makes people dislike him

I don’t think it’s that why people dislike him

Thought the race was a bit of a bore-fest bar GR fending off Max for a few laps. He positioned that car beautifully at times. Barcelona is such a poor track for proper overtaking though, all DRS assisted which showed with Max struggling to get past a much slower Merc on the straight.

Great recovery drive from Lewis. Great overall drive from George. Max is going to walk the Championship if Ferrari don't sort their race pace ASAP. Loved hearing Checo asking them to get Max out of his way, won't be many times this season he gets to ask that.

George really is showing how good he is.

I had my doubts about him from the times he was in a good position at Williams then seemed to throw it off the road under pressure, but he really seems the real deal, very impressed

a few good young drivers that could compete with the right car. Think Norris could be right up there for example. Leclerc can drive (apart from the one occasion) his car has let him down - well in control yesterday until it blew up.

I think Norris gets the Merc seat alongside Russell when Lewis steps away after this / next season. He drove well yesterday considering how poorly he was all weekend.

Unfortunately, that's what tends to happen once the engineers start to get a grasp on understanding car performance. Big rule changes often only shake things up for a few races at the start of the season, until they start bringing upgrades and really understanding how their car works.

Definitely, they were hoping for more than they've gotten out of these rules so far.

Well known Senna was one of the most childish, petulent drivers out there though, isn't it, so would hardly be a shock if he was moaning away. How about Lauda retiring because it was a bit wet? And yes, I know it's a fecetious example that, but it's not exactly uncommon for drivers to back out when they feel it's not the best use of their energies.

Not really an argument you can use in f1 against one driver really - they're all self-centred knobs, it's why they are where they are!

Lauda is massively understandable being as he was burnt into a roast potato 3 months previous, ad on a track like Fuji was then, with actual rivers flowing down it I don't anyone can blame him considering he cheated death a matter of months before that

Missing the point somewhat, even though I flagged up the point.

They're all understandable. It's pretty bloody stupid to think one driver moans away in a self-centred way while the others are all hardworking team spirited members. Verstappen comes across as a spoilt man-child who would be sacked from any other business and, probably will be if he loses his pace and doesn't mellow.

The only difference is some hide it better from a public view.

Oh I agree on Verstappen, he's a proper spoilt little brat when it doesn't go his way.

I just find the Lewis stance of 'were a team 'still we rise' etc is all well and good, but when his backs against the wall or it goes to shit he's the first to basically say 'the teams fucked it' or 'I may aswell park it because I'm at the back'

He needs to channel it into aggression and that's when we see the best of him, e.g Brazil last year where the world was against him and he came out fighting giving us one of the best drives of his career.

Made me think, who do you see as the calmest driver out there? Cant recall hearing George or Albon throwing a paddy over the radio

But he did the team thing! He suggested it might be worthwhile retiring the car, they said no, he said alright and drove his nuts off.

That's the very essence of teamwork!

Hamilton is considered woke and his skin colour and background doesn’t fit this elitist circus

That’s not an accusation at people on here but let’s be honest his face literally doesn’t fit

A lot to do with media coverage and social media differences.
Likes of Senna and Schumacher weren't miked up during races.News coverage far more intense and intrusive now days as well so many ofthe stories (and non-stories) just wouldn't have been published as everything was pretty much limited to written press and so many column inches alloted to F1.
Schumacher also had a reputation for being extremely difficult with his teams and engineers etc as well particularly when things weren't going well

Most drivers from comfortable backgrounds at least - a significant percentage from very affluent backgrounds. Plus those that have their seats because they bring in substantial sponsorship/backing.
Plus Hamilton has opnions and expresses them on issues outside F1 which often doesn't go down well

Any chance this year Monaco isn't a snoozefest? Even threat of rain seems to have passed

Yep, I'm black and apart from Hamilton, I don't usually see any other black people at F1 races on TV. I still remember the Spanish race years back when some local fans were seen on TV wearing monkey masks and wearing T-shirts that said 'We are Hamilton's family'.

Incidentally, delaying the start? I appreciate safety comes first, but the appeal of motor racing is the jeapordy after all - so let them go out! It's not *that* dangerous as it is anyway, surely?

Race control have absolutely botched this. They're going to force everyone to start on extreme wets in conditions that are intermediate tyres.

As Max just said, 'are we waiting for it to be dry?'.

Bloody farce. I remember when rain meant an interesting race. Now it seems to mean we don't go racing.

Part of it is risk and luck anyway isn't it - a random driver coming through because they picked the right tyre as everyone else didn't.

Where's the chance? The drama? What's the point of all this other than to destroy the fun, which is the unpredictability!

Well, now they've waited and its raining heavier so they've just made whatever they were worried about worse!

Still, reassuring that Sky commentary all seem to agree that this is ridiculous
