Hi guys I don't usually post just read and smile. However a few swans season ticket holders have been asking about him. They believe he will be signed by end of the week, I don't think they realise the other clubs are potentially interested too however

Annoying if getting at least 500k and harries going that we wont spend 250k on collins

Any recuperated money from transfer income has to be reinvested into where the club needs it most. This applies to any football club, not just CCFC. If it is in fact true that SISU has stopped pumping funds into the club then revenue needs to come from somewhere. Nothing to get annoyed about, it's just part of football. A certain percentage of the money will more often than not be put into the playing budget. Even if Robins gets 5% of the 500K plus the fee gained from a Harries sale, that could still bring in a well established League 2 player.

Think it's too little too late for us bringing in Collins. There'll be plenty more like him out there, its only June!

If it allows us to bring in a proper goalscorer, I'm all for it. Hope he keeps developing and doesn't end up stuck in someone's U23s.

James CCFC first of all you would do well to get 500k at present and as for more "James Collins" out there name anyone available at the same price who has scored 1 in 3 in division 2.

Very short sighted opinions , would rather further about the 500k and keep a player with potential than spend it on an already journeyman like Collins who isn't good enough for L1

Can't keep a kid from going from L2 to the Prem, even if he does get loaned straight out to the Championship. Especially if the club he supports is in for him.

I'd rather we kept him, but I feel the time for that has passed. We should be here fending off massive bids, instead we've made him available as a cheap gamble just as his profile is sky high.

Well that's short sighted too as he's already played 68 games and scored 20 in league one. That's just over 1 goal in 3.
So that's a career of just over 1 in 3 in league one and under 1 in 3 in league two.

That's just goals alone, players like James offer more than just goals too

Leon Clarke is a journeyman also and has scored goals where ever he's gone. Football is full of them.

The figure of 500K was relative to the previous posts. Personally agree with you and believe it would be optimistic to think we'd receive such a sum. I think we'd do well to touch 250K but i don't manage compensation fees.

As for asking me to name players we'd be able to bring in that isn't difficult. Just look at the League Two top scorers last season. For instance, John Akinde, Matt Godden, David Wheeler. All three play for clubs that are unlikely to turn away from a six-figure bid. All average around 1 in 3, with the exception of Akinde, who's ratio was closer to 1 in 2. Wouldn't say they are any better or worse players than Collins, therefore you would assume their respective clubs wouldn't ask for a fee beyond Luton's reported bid.

Matthew Godden is coming into the last year of his contract. David Wheeler's contract was undisclosed but it seems to me that it expires this summer. I would say that qualifies as available, wouldn't you?

Would hope for one of them if we miss out on Collins. I feel we have to get in a proven league 2 goal scorer or we'll come just short this year. Encouraging that Robins can go for these types of players though. Shows that he can afford to bring in a 20 goal striker

McNulty scored 11 in 29 when he last played in league two.

Last I heard Stevenage were on about they wanted 1 million for Godden. He would be out of reach.

Well if you're right then he'll go for free at the end of the season and they'll receive nothing because no club with sense would pay a sum of that size for him. It's only an educated guess, but it's likely they would've demanded that in the Jan transfer window last season to warn off potential buyers. So, it's possible their asking price would drop significantly because of his contract situation. Still could be out of reach though as they clearly value him highly.

Matty Godden would be my next preferred choice. Has a ratio of 1 in 2 in the national league and near the same in league two.

He's quite inexperienced in the football league still even tho he's just 25 still.

Stats are league two 20 in 42
National league 15 in 29.
National league south 35 in 70 games for Ebbsfleet.

You'd only be looking around 200/300k for him tops with a year left on his deal.

He was at Scunthorpe previously who was his parent club in various loans until his release before Mark Robins appointment.

Tommy Widdrington will no about him tho from his time in the national league south so I'm sure his name maybe on a white board on the office.

Akinde and Godden would cost more than Collins in my opinion and we wouldn't even match Luton's offer so cant see us paying more for those 2 as for Wheeler his average is only about 1 in 4 or 10 goals a season not enough for what we need. The first 2 will surely be offered good contracts( Something we find hard to do if reports are right ).Good goal scorers are hard too come by

Luton just sold 22 year old Jack Marriott today to league one Peterborough for a fee believed to be 400k who had a contract at Luton too 2019

Jacks stats are not quite as good as Matty Godden who's 25, but Matty Godden is currently contracted till 2018 so has 12 months less. So likely command a fee around 300k

Luton had agreed a deal for a reported 250k for James Collins, 26 who's contracted at Crawley till 2019 so that's the bench mark been set for goal scoring strikers in league two.

priority should be to keep him, he looks like he could become a real player. upfront out out wide

and can play l2 and l1. which would be invauable

A successful season here at Cov would probably have him knocking on the Welsh 1st team door. Stuck in a Prem reserve team would put this back a couple of years. Puts the lad in an awkward position and I would support him whichever way he jumps. Money in the bank is a great draw in an industry where the next game could be your last.

I think keeping Thomas could be crucial to our promotion hopes. Last season the teams in the top five scored over 70 goals. At the minute I don't think we have that in the squad. We will need goals from midfield like we had in baker, Murphy, Moussa and O'Brien in previous years. Thomas should get 10+ from right midfield and probably more than that. Thomas re-signing coupled with an addition of a new striker such as Collins could add 30 goals to the team. Sadly I'm not confident of either after the vincenti and biamou signings. Currently I don't think we have enough goals in us to win promotion.

vicente is known for chipping in with goals?

bilmau looks like he could be a 20 goal man according to sutton manager

but i agree we want thomas in ADDITION to that

I would agree with you I currently don't think we have enough goals in our team to win promotion. But what we've brought in is a start. Interesting you're not convinced by Vincenti, personally think he's our best signing to date

Yeah I could imagine vincenti getting a few but not into double figures like we'd expect from Thomas. Hopefully Biamou is the 20 goal a season man. I don't think that's as guaranteed as Collins hitting 20 would be though. Also the interviews suggest Biamou could be second choice. The Sutton manager said he could get 20 goals in the National league I don't think he said league 2

I wouldn't say unconvinced, I just don't think he'll get as many goals as Thomas would from the right. That puts pressure on Jones or Reid on the other side who I don't think will get anywhere near 10 goals between them

Reid will be let go. What you've got to remember that the face of the team is still likely to change significantly between now and August 31st. We still have 8 players who's futures are undecided. So, call me an optimist but I do think there's room for more goalscoring threats to come in.

If I was CCFC, I'd do my best to make sure Thomas is kept on. We need the potential for at least 40 goals from our midfield alone before we even start thinking about promotion. Jones doesn't have that finished article, he's an impact player designed to set up goals rather than score. Vincenti will definitely score, how many remains to be seen. Personally think established goalscoring AM's are as pressing as an out and out striker at the minute. Hoping a minimum of 2 more are bought in otherwise i think we'll struggle.
