We've still got the new shirt and Gus - will he, won't he.
Don't stay comfy for too long mate.
Whilst I agree it’s too early to tell it’s not an exaggeration to say he’s done more in the short term.
- Sorted out the shambles of a pitch at Ryton
- Secured arguably our best ever manager and coaching team on long term contracts (previously was a rolling contract)
- Ensured we got top money for our assets
- Record signing since PL days (with add ons could be record ever)
- A deal at the CBS which may be more expensive but allows us to have exclusivity of the bowl and the potential to do what we please (safe standing)
- Ensured the best pitch will be installed at the CBS
Yes it is early days but what else can we expect to happen in 6 months of ownership?
8/10 what million spending on players or actual players? No they weren’t, another 8/10 to go
He can't control what SL write, or what people think, but like others said, he can control what he says himself. He's said a chunk of that money goes on other things besides transfers.Love the suggestion that other clubs will be looking at Doug King’s quotes to gauge how much money we have, as opposed to the Sporting Lisbon press release that says they’re giving us €17 million.
It won’t affect transfer negotiations one bit - unless we’re dealing with a particularly gullible/naive club.He can't control what SL write, or what people think, but like others said, he can control what he says himself. He's said a chunk of that money goes on other things besides transfers.
True or not, feel like it makes sense to say it. Hopefully it's to stop people wasting time asking for daft fees, and not him covering for recouping his outlay so far. Time will tell.
Last year, fucked pitch ~ Fucking angry
This year, brand new pitch ~ Yeah but who fucking paid for it?
TBF
same people were saying 'its only June'
We kick off 3 weeks Sunday and currently still have 1 CB
The signings have been great don't get me wrong but still a LOT to do and less time to do it in
Thats funny if true.Just been looking through one of the Sporting Lisbon fan sites, it seems (at least to them ) the thing that took so long was city's insistence sporting paid the 10% sell on fee to Brighton ( the training club) and they are moaning like fuck about it. 2m (€) 10% to training club €22m + €4m . They are happy with singing Vik but fuck me they think Doug's had there pants down. Good on you Doug!
Used this on twitter as it hammers home the point I've been trying to make all afternoonFrom an interview DK did on 19 June in the CovTel.
"Put to him that there’s a What’sApp group of 28 existing box holders and none of them intend renewing, he said: “Of course that’s disappointing if that’s the case. This whole plan for Coventry City and what we’re trying to achieve requires everyone to get on board. It requires me to get on board and finance the operating losses at the club, which are significant.
“It needs me to get on board and do the infrastructure at the club, the pitches, the training ground and ultimately the Academy. I have said I am going to do that out of my own pocket because it’s clearly not going to come from any revenues or profitability of the club. The club should have the facilities that it needs."

So for those asking, as of 3 1/2 weeks ago, it very much looks like DK was saying he was funding the relaying of the pitches and the improvements to Ryton. Not the club and not the unhappy corporate box holders. I point out the the date of this interview as this was well within the period of the Gyokeres transfer saga so it is presumed that he had dismissed those funds from his intentions.

Surely the sales and related money is his , so he is funding the infrastructure? From an interview DK did on 19 June in the CovTel.

There is rather alot of them thinking along the same lines, but I know you know best. It’s probably the Portuguese version of GIMOC
It doesn't tho. You have no idea what he does or doesn't pay for. You used this because you don't like King and thats it.Used this on twitter as it hammers home the point I've been trying to make all afternoon
There's an actual document with details I think. It’s probably the Portuguese version of GIMOC
Sorry, misread the post you quoted. There's an actual document with details I think.
Are we back from the Portugal tomorrow?Annoyed we didn’t make more signings before the pre-season trip but wasn’t expecting anything whilst we were away. Gotta make up for lost time starting tomorrow.
What a way to say goodbye.

Totally agreeI don't know how the monies in is attributed according to whether its team, board room alcohol or infrastructure. And to be frank, I don't really care (the point about the box holder costs was rhetorical as it was current discussion)Unless it comes out that DK was lying and he used 90% of the Vik transfer money on improving the board room tea trolley, if we have a better team and club at the end of the season because of this windfall, who loses ? Why are we spending so much time arguing about something that we won't have the full picture about until the accounts are released ?
<Returning to lurk mode. It's safer>
We have in the last week about equalled our highest transfer fee paid this century. We also trebled it with another signing with add ons on top. We have weeks of the transfer window left. Not to expect too much? He's clearly telling the fans not to expect too much in the way of signings from the proceeds.

So would spending most of it on two players have been wise? Should we rush into signings?
Some need to mellow out. Every side needs to sign players. Nothing special about us.
Sporting fans also not happy with 15% sell on clause as well as having to pay the 10% owed to Brighton. Personally I think Doug's done a good job there , fair play fella.
