I like you Tom have tried to stay silent, I have posted just a few things, not fully knowing which side to believe and only being concerned for the innocents on both sides, but you then get landed on if you haven't chosen a side from several people. I will go back to just reading this thread and hold my thoughts to myself

No I think you only get landed on for picking one side, which very few people in this thread have.

The vast majority have criticised atrocities from both sides.

I agree mostly in what you are saying PVA, however you can't always criticise both sides in an individual post you are answering too. I do believe there are atrocities on both sides and don't want to get into who's lying the most with some people on here. My thoughts align with SBP and many more that the innocents are the ones we should feel for.

I noticed Kieran called me a Hamas sympathiser being dubious over Israel and it's claims to have not attacked the hospital

I shouldn't have to put this on record as it is a given but:

Fuck Hamas, Fuck Islamic Jihad and fuck any offshoots of them. They are a stain on the Palestinian people and a danger to them but collective punishment and actions that lead to the deaths of so many innocent civilians will only in the long run strengthen Hamas. In the long run the vast majority of people in Palestine want to live in peace but each innocent person who dies has family and friends and their deaths breed anger and resentment which is the greatest recruitment tool Hamas could ask for. You can't beat terrorism with overwhelming fire, as we realised in NI how do you wage a military campaign against someone who "only has to be lucky once"?

The best and only solution is to work to improve the infrastructure for normal people in both Gaza and The West Bank and work towards a proper and lasting 2 state solution.

Why are world leaders talking like it’s a football match?
We had Biden talking about ‘the other team’ and now Sunak saying ‘we want you to win’

Anyway does anyone else feel that if Israel had proper evidence that it was Hamas who blew up the hospital they would have released it by now instead of peddling discredited audio recordings.
It would make no difference to my thinking. This is two sides hell bent on a collision course decades in the making and not one of them is blameless. Both poke a stick at each other and as you said previously i am sure that the people of Palestine want peace and so do the Israeli population, if not their government.
It is time for different thinking and creative solutions which shouldn’t be beyond those that seek peace rather than war.

Significant support across the political spectrum.
Our leaders are out of touch.

Of course you’d hope most sane people would want a ceasefire but to what end…do the hostages get released, what next etc etc. it’s the problem with pollsters questions sometimes, very black and white

I’ve got so many questions on both sides I steer clear of posting. Some interesting posts though, the most useful for me was the Rory Stewart/Alistair Campbell podcast (posted by Tony I think).

This doesn't look like the words of somebody who might have bombed a hospital

Seems to me the sensible approach would be a ceasefire and full return to aid deliveries (hearing on the radio today that a handful of aid lorries were allowed in through the Egyptian border post, which sounds good but then they said that in “normal” times 200 lorries of aid a day go through the Egyptian border crossing) in exchange for the hostages. It’s a win win for Israel, either they get their people back or if Hamas refuses it adds to the Hamas are the bad guys we’re sending the ground forces in.
Ultimately though the only chance of longer piece involves willing parties and a return to the Oslo Accords.

The question was "Who's backing Hammas"? I said 'me', because I hate oppression in any form. And if Hammas can help give back to Palestine what rightly belongs to them, then I support their ideals. I don't support innocent civilians being killed, just as my grandad was in the Coventry blitz, but like I said, I support anybody and any country that fights oppression of their lands.

You’ve also opposed the uk defending the Falkland Islands against Argentina

And why not? Why does the UK want to own a few small islands just off Argentina? How would you feel if say, the Hebrides or Shetands etc were invaded and taken over by another country? Oh, and by the way, do you fancy me? You seem to follow and save every post I've ever placed. Sorry Grendull but I'm straight. However, I have a good mate who's looking for a nice boy! I'll let him know he can follow you on here.

Well 300 miles, just off would be like the Isle of Wight. Or the Isle of Man. Plus of course they have no valid claim. Or to put it another way Coventry to Paris.

As everyone else is making suggestions:

1, Release Hostages
2. Allow Humanitarian Convoys in
3. Ceasefire
4. UN to send in a Peacekeeping Force
5. United Nations War Crimes Commission (UNWCC) - has precedence for similar situation
6. Free and fair elections for Palestinians.
7. Egypt to open its Border
8. Now not expecting this to be quick but hopefully a gradual improvement in relations between a new democratic Palestinian State and Israel.

Similar sort of deal on the West Bank, probably a 3 State solution. Not sure why Gaza and the West Bank should be connected. Maybe some sort of Federation but they seem to have very different politics.

The small missing detail is that the Falklanders do not want to be governed by Argentina.

Saudis issue statement criticising Israel for allowing Qatari money to reach Hamas.

It's come from Saudi so who knows if its true but I suspect it is.

isn’t that the consequences of war? deaths on both sides. one death is too many regardless which ‘team’ your on

I despise how you all on here blame Isreal without calling out Hamas and other terrorist parties.

Good Lord man, find someone who hasn't called out the atrocities committed by Hamas (or other Islamic terrorists. You are despising something that exists entirely in your own head - you're literally making it up.

What people are saying about Israel isn't that it doesn't have the right to defend itself, it's that it is taking it too far. In effect, it is punishing the whole population of Gaza, for the actions of Hamas. It is literally killing innocent men, women and children, by denying water, power, and medical supplies to 2.3 million people.

Saying that people die in wars is trite and pointless - deliberately targeting civilians in this way is something that many if not most people aren't willing to accept.

This isn't difficult to understand, unless you're being deliberately obtuse.
