Think we’ll struggle with this one. Luton will press and be aggressive, and I’m not sure we handle that very well. Hope I’m wrong, but think it will go to the last game where we’ll more than likely need to win. Unless of course, Norwich pull their fingers out and do something at ‘boro. They’ve sacked their manager, so perhaps they’ll pick up.
Luton will come out guns blazing early and we have to ready for that. Weather that storm and we can turn them over.

We didn’t do it the last time we met, luckily we had the goods to turn them over at home.

Play-off final was the same first half was theirs but they often fade in a game.

Sit tight, don’t get caught out and wait for our chances as they'll give us some.

Don't think there's more than one or two games this season where we've set up with 3 x CBs and got a result without being lucky and played a bit sh*t.

Just want us to be assertive, control the game and be brave with our decision making when we've got the ball in and around their box. Should have enough.
Whereas with 2CB's we've consistently conceded two a game.

We've conceded more goals than Hull and Derby over a season. However we set up, we don't defend well unless we control games like we did vs. Sunderland, Hull and WBA. I just don't see an extra CB as a silver bullet.

This. I think a lot of teams at the bottom start winning this time of year, because they go out all guns blazing. First goal is so important.

We won't go up but we have to improve the defence and away record next season.

You can't state that as fact.

The clubs below us are in abysmal form. That's how we went above them and stayed above them. Hamer is Fooked. Enjoyed life too much to last a whole season. Sheffield United can't cope without him. They have lost 4 out of their last 5 games.

Let's ignore the next games. Because whatever happens a win against Middlesbrough puts us above them. Even a fairytale would struggle to put another side above us without playing the Luton game.

Too many people are worrying about our next game. But no matter what happens at best we've either secured our playoff place but at worse have to beat Middlesbrough at home and Millwall not win at Burnley who are after a record of 33 games unbeaten whilst trying to get the better of Leeds.

Some people need to relax. This game against Luton is the least important game we have left of the season. If you're off the meter now there's a good chance you won't survive until it's all over.

I can't even watch tomorrows game. Flew back, put the TV on and heard loud cracking sound. TV is " dead" waiting for a new one to arrive doubt if it will arrive this weekend.

I think Lampard needs a defensive coach. I don’t think setting up defences is his strong point.
Interesting point because I think a lot of it comes from how highly you rate Dovin.

When we were playing in a 5-3-2, we often compressed the defence and didn’t concede much in this period. Now we’ve gone back to a 4-3-3 we are conceding a lot more but that could be because of the keeper situation.

Does anyone know what our expected goals against is like under lampard?

532 isn’t sustainable IMO. We gave up so much and couldn’t play some of our better players. Stodging the defence isn’t an ability to set it up. Under Robins we never looked right with four ATB until Lawrence came in IMO. I just think it’s a specific skill set most managers don’t have, especially if they weren’t a defender in their career.

11 conceded at home which is great but 21 conceded away in 13 games

Strange and tbh I dont understand why we dont set up differently away .. the goal away at hull sums us up under lampard away , all at sea and we should be organised and compact with 8 minutes to go and 1 up

I think tomorrow's game is very, very important, myself. The outcome could change everything.

What we want to avoid if at all possible is the situation where we HAVE to beat Middlesbrough. With that will come so much pressure.

And it only takes a sending off, a fluke cross that ends up in the net, a dodgy penalty, an unlucky deflection, an offside goal that's not called etc.

These things happen.

Also, it does matter tomorrow, because if we lose, that will be two games in a row we have lost and to the bottom 2 sides in the division. That's very poor and it's not going to do confidence and morale any good at all, is it. Also, a defeat coupled with a Boro win and we are out of the playoff positions. We don't want that to happen at all

A draw tomorrow would be so very helpful. A win and it's all over I think.

If we lose tomorrow, then we will have made it very tough for ourselves.

I am pretty confident we will get something out of this game, because we need a reaction from the Plymouth match.

He made mistakes for two of them, doesnt mean he Collins shouldn't have done better.
When was the last MVE mistake for a goal before that?
Because you don't have to go back very far to find a Collins one.

Thing is a good organised defence is like a good referee, if they’re doing their job well you barely notice them. And mistakes aren’t punished so easily or happen so often.

Little of both. We are conceding chances we shouldn’t and we are letting in chances we shouldn’t.

And there's no way Wilson wins golden gloves without a decent defence in front of him but equally he (or any keeper who wins it) has to play a major part.
Same as Vik that year, doesn't score that many goals in a shit team but he still earned a big move on merit.

Clean sheets are a team stat IMO like wins and losses. The golden glove is IMO a stupid award.

That your opinion. I'd say any argument against it could probably be applied to top scorer awards.
But to say a keeper who wins golden gloves didn't play a part in winning it is madness.

Collins could have Moore Beckenbauer Maldini and Zanetti in defence with Makelele sat in front of them and he still wouldn't win it.

It’s hard to defend Collins at all. He just can’t get down quick enough to keep a low struck shot out. He’s not dominant and his speed of thought is terrifying.

Top scorers actually score the goals. You can’t get top scorer without ever touching the ball. The same isn’t true about golden glove. Any award you could win without ever touching the ball is a stupid award.

That's a ridiculous scenario though.
You could be top scorer by not actually intentionally scoring a goal and deflecting 30 goals in but its not going to happen.

We're about middling for conceding chances and bottom 4 for conceding goals from those chances...

Loads of stats here - Championship Goalkeeper Stats | FBref.com

This really doesn't reflect well on Collins. Expected goals conceded with him in goal is 14.4, we've actually conceded 22.

The league rank is the far left column. Collins is 51st out of 51...

At least you’d have shown some ability by getting into the right positions. Clean sheets have been invented to give GKs something like goals like assists were invented for midfielders. Assists are stupid for a variety of reasons but still infinitely better than clean sheets for an individual stat. You might as well give an award to the player who has been on the winning team the most.
