Transfer Rumour Matty James (10 Viewers)

The fact we are in this situation to begin with is a joke.

Matty James is 33 and will likely command a higher wage than Liam Kelly was earning, the 2 players are not much apart in terms of quality, yet we shifted on Kelly because we'd outgrown that level of player.

It's a regression to say the least, I'm not trying to come across negative but we are literally 2 or 3 talented players away (a midfielder and a centre back) from really becoming a top 3 or 4 side in this division and yet we fucked around signing a shed load of forwards.

It's frustrating, we already had Sakamoto, Simms, Wright, Tavares. I genuinely thought when we brought in Asante and then Bassette, perhaps Simms or Wright might be sold, but clearly that wasn't the case.

We lost Hamer and O'hare and that is fine. This happens in Football, at every level in the game a club will have to sell because the player and his agent want a fat signing on fee etc.

We all have differing opinions but I think we can all agree we should have signed a fucking centre mid and a defender.
Stopped reading after ‘Kelly and James are not far away in quality’. Christ

Or we get to the bottom of the Barnsley boys and their current omission,, the acquisition of players will be retrograde for now you'd assume without the sale of a player or fresh fund's from Vik and hamer, whatever they are?

Not all players can "fit the model"

We need experience alongside the younger players.

I just looked it up, and only Bidwell and Wilson are over 30, and even then are only 31 & 32.

The younger players need guidance

There’s not a chance we neglected the midfield in the window. We just couldn’t land anyone. There’s a big difference. Under previous regimes we’d have flogged Sheaf for £4m and pinned our hopes on picking up a free transfer or prem loan.

And I hope I am proven wrong I just cannot see Matty James coming in and being far superior at 33 than a limited Kelly.

To be fair, we all want the team to well no matter who comes in. In regards to matty, if you look at the games started last year and his stats, it looks like he’s a couple of seasons ahead of where Kelly was not to mention a premier league winner (I think)s

I think this will be a decent addition on the pitch but a huge addition off it in regards to training and development.

The issue is it's obvious to everybody we fucked up the midfield

It's not how much has been spent that's the issue, it's where it's spent

All good cruising round showing off in a Ferrari, but pointless if its it's got a Ford KA engine

We also all know we made several attempts to sign a CM, by all accounts had a loan lined up who got injured before window shut and also turned down offers for sheaf. It’s not like we haven’t been trying to strengthen this area. Some appear oblivious to this though

Palmer had to go, Robins intimated as much in his chat with Andy Turner. Thinks he's a big fish and would have either downed tools or agitated possibly if it didn't happen, with that attitude MR did the right thing. If James can come in what's the harm? We need cover rather than a 100 page thread after every game talking about shortages in midfield. Sorry folks there ain't a lot out there to be picky.

I agree with you all I fucking hope Matty comes in and sorts out the undynamic duo that is Torp and Eccles.
If he is the player of old then he starts alongside Sheaf and Rudoni.

We need someone that's for sure, Eccles, Torp and Rudoni are poor as a 3. If Matty comes in and is the player I remember, it will be Torp likely to be benched. Let's just hope we get this over the line.

Great for the dressing room. No doubt about his experience and the positive influence he had when we were struggling in our first year back in the Championship.
Can he still do it on the pitch at 33 is the question? The way we play I would not expect him to play for 90 minutes anyway.
As a free agent, can't ask too much wage or contract wise unless there are other suitors.
Might be worth a punt. I would certainly offer a trial.

Now all over X. Our entitled fanbase will have their pitchforks out if James doesn’t sign. Forget the 40m spent over the past 18 months, the attempts to bring in a big CM signing in over the summer, the rejected bids of our top players, the improvements behind the scenes /infrastructure and the fact that we’re even paying decent money on players for the future for the first time in years (Bassette).

Who would be a football club owner !

ps if we can sign James great, I liked him on loan and think he would add to the squad but the lack of appreciation of what’s been done at the club, the longer term plan and attempts to put club on a sustainable footing, is quite frankly frightening
Also needs to be appreciate that we meet some experience in the side I’m sorry.

Robins apparently really wants this player, maybe it’s the fan in me but you go and get him.

I’m not sure about the need for experience but I think you’re right about not all players needing to ‘fit the model’.
Sometimes, like now, we need a player (regardless of age/experience) who can come and play in midfield at a decent level.
Great if we could’ve had Stamanic or someone of that ilk but we couldn’t get them, so we need someone else.
