Just because a player is better than another player in his position does not mean he can't or shouldn't be dropped when in poor form.
The ball was going wide and then it took a bizarre bounce and spun inside the post. Stand in the middle of your goal; from a throw in there won't be as much pace on the ball so you have time to come and claim it. A wide free kick,yes cover the front post.
