because I could spend it on funding my family and not other peoples
Good shamed into it but goodBeep beep beep, attention, this non dom is reversing, beep beep beep.
Rishi Sunak's wife to pay UK tax on overseas income
Akshata Murty has previously not paid UK tax on shares worth £700m in an Indian tech company.www.bbc.co.uk
Selfish and greedy but then I’m enviousSo just to be clear her permanent home is somehow both in India & in the USA but definitely not here where she's lived for many years & owns 3 properties whilst schooling their children here etc. etc. etc.
Awfully convenient.
What an absolute crock of shit. You do understand that you live in a society and you and your family benefit from that?because I could spend it on funding my family and not other peoples
Yeah but at least we aren’t run by bureaucrats from another country anymore.I'm left wondering how a person with permanent residency in another country can become a MP, let alone a cabinet minister, let alone the Chancellor.

No. The UK and the US have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation. You tell the US how much you earned and paid tax on in the UK.Would still be on the hook for federal taxes though, no?
A bit like has finally been imposed on the tech giants? No. The UK and the US have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation. You tell the US how much you earned and paid tax on in the UK.
They run the numbers and see if you’d have paid more in the US (which you wouldn’t…). If you would have, you need to cough up the difference.
Global taxation of their citizens and residents is morally terrible but ironically would avoid the very kind of tax play that’s being discussed on this thread lol

Whole thing is blown out of proportion and is a smear campaign to be honest. The numbers are misleading too. She will be paying tax on those dividends in India anyway won’t she (and it’s an Indian company so…) so it’s not like she’s avoiding paying any tax?
Saying she has avoided paying 4.5 million in tax to the UK does not mean she’s avoided paying 4.5 million in tax full stop. If you’ve got roots in different countries it’s completely commonplace to arrange your holdings and statuses in a tax efficient manor.
I hate this bunch of crooks but this is fucking pathetic
Nothing to seeOh dear.
Revealed: Rishi Sunak ‘listed in tax haven as trust beneficiary’ while chancellor
Exclusive: Chancellor noted in documents related to his wife’s finances from Cayman and British Virgin islands in 2020, say sourceswww.independent.co.uk
Its not a smear campaign. Everything thay has been reported is fact, and is in the public interest given he is the responsible for setting Tax legislation in the UK.Whole thing is blown out of proportion and is a smear campaign to be honest. Quite extraordinary the depth of info coming out here I think.
Surprised if Labour Party.
Wouldn't be surprised. Does seem that Sunak was aligning himself to be party leader and there do seem to be an awful lot of leaks from inside the Tory party these daysDefinitely coming from the Tories. Either Johnson or Gove

he’s committed fraud? Wow that is indeed serious. How has he committed fraud? As long as he kept them up to date and got a re-entry permit he should be fine, and even if not they would just relinquish is green card, not an offence and it’s not fraud.the green card stuff is more concerning TBH. He’s committed fraud towards the US and signed something while an MP and Chancellor saying he will put America ahead of the U.K.
Again I would still not say that is smear. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.from the independent
Last year she collected dividends of £11.5m from her estimated £700m stake in Infosys, the IT firm set up by her father, potentially saving around £4.5m in UK taxes through her non-dom status. She has previously stated that she “has always and will continue to pay UK taxes on all her UK income”.
I would argue this is misleading as it very much implies that she’s getting a net saving of £4.5m. This is not going to be the case and very likely she paid the Indian government taxes.
Not sure you can be smeared by the truth. It’s more a case of people learning who and what they really are.Whole thing is blown out of proportion and is a smear campaign to be honest. The numbers are misleading too. She will be paying tax on those dividends in India anyway won’t she (and it’s an Indian company so…) so it’s not like she’s avoiding paying any tax?

What did he sign saying he will put America ahead of the UK? He isn’t a US citizen is he?
I think people are confusing company tax liabilities in India with her own personal tax liabilities in the UK. There seems to be a huge assumption from cap doffers that she has already paid tax on this money in India. I haven’t seen that suggested at all except by randoms on twitter. I’m sure her company has paid tax on the profits in India but that isn’t the same as her paying personal tax liabilities on her dividends from the profits.Again I would still not say that is smear. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
She has actively chosen to pay £30k for non-dom status to avoid paying tax in the UK. Regardless of what she has paid in India, she lives here, her children go to school here, her husband is the Chancellor and she has made a conscious decision to pay tax in India where I believe the rates are considerably lower.
I agree with Shmmeee the Rishi green card issue for me is far more serious. He didnt even chose to give it back, it expired.

He was born there so has citizenship rites by birth, don’t believe he had a green card. Not sure it’s nearly the same thing.Wasn’t Johnson a US citizen until fairly recently?

There are plenty of leave voters (many Labour not just nasty tories) who voted for more than immigration reasons. Also ... when I last checked, neither India or the USA were part of the EU, however as always I bow to your bollocks poundshop political agenda.Spare a thought tonight for all those people that voted leave championing brexit Tories like Sunak because they’d had enough of those foreigners coming over here abusing the system for their own gain only to find that dishy Rishi is married to…
Well it wasn’t for trade, it wasn’t for farming, it wasn’t for a NHS windfall, it wasn’t for the fishing industry, it wasn’t to scrap VAT on energy, it wasn’t for cheaper food, it wasn’t for more rights, it wasn’t for better standards etc etc. There’s not much left as a reason to vote leave unless you’re willing to admit it’s a failed project. There are plenty of leave voters (many Labour not just nasty tories) who voted for more than immigration reasons. Ooh good more deflection. So India or USA, which one did Brexit make us leave? I'll kot wait for your answer, it will simply be more unreasonable bollocks.Well it wasn’t for trade, it wasn’t for farming, it wasn’t for a NHS windfall, it wasn’t for the fishing industry, it wasn’t to scrap VAT on energy, it wasn’t for cheaper food, it wasn’t for more rights, it wasn’t for better standards etc etc. There’s not much left as a reason to vote leave unless you’re willing to admit it’s a failed project.
You’re going to have to ask a coherent question first before I can give you an answer.Ooh good more deflection. So India or USA, which one did Brexit make us leave? I'll kot wait for your answer, it will simply be more unreasonable bollocks.
