The Kase(y) for Palmer (1 Viewer)

On his day he's unreal but sadly his best only comes 1/10 games with the other 9 trying silly Hollywood passes instead of a simple pass out wide and getting wound up when things aren't going his way. Decent option off the bench but we need a number 10 through the door this summer

He’s not a top 6 championship player.
A top 6 championship team is not necessarily made up of 11 plus top 6 championship players. We need players who play with passion and know the system. When we reached the playoffs final, we probably had 2 or 3 top 6 championship players (or better than that).
We don't have the finances to buy in more than one or two that can fit this category.

Biggest issue for me with Palmer is his out of possession positioning. In a lot of games he's been too high (up with Simms) and leaves a massive gap in the centre and our DMs are exposed.

Not sure if its tactical instruction or if he is conserving energy - but we get overrun against better opposition because of it.

Would like to see two high-energy 8's next season and have Palmer as impact sub.

I think Palmer is a very gifted footballer who, given his skill set, should score more goals and be better on set pieces.
On balance, I'd rather have him in the squad.

some one on here so eloquently stated "he's all fart & no poo".
We need to start seeing more of the brown stuff and quickly.
Otherwise his whole career will be remembered for what could have been.

The up for it-Palmer is simply unplayable. But I think we've all seen by now that the up for it-Palmer only turns up once every 4 or 5 games. Just wish he'd be more consistent.

He’s the sort of player you see his touch, ability and close control once and you think ‘what a player’ hence why opposition fans have singled him out after we’ve played them but it wears thin when you’ve seen it 40 times a season and he’s contributed 2 goals and 4 assists. Hes got 1 year left so id let this season play out and reassess next summer.

What is it with our fans. Always need a player to rat on. 18 months ago it was Jamie Allen, then he started scoring in our march to the playoffs. This season its flirted between Simms and Wright, and once they start scoring it moves to Kasey Palmer.
For me, I loved him the first time he played (sub against Sunderland). Yes he gives the ball away more than he should, but no-one else in the team can play the balls he can.

Said it before a high pass completion for an AM/ST is usually a bad sign because they’re playing a lot of safe balls and not tying that killer final ball.
This is what people like @stupot07 cannot understand. Too old school perhaps

As for Palmer you know I'm a fan but he is inconsistent when it comes to overall performance game to game so I'm open to whatever happens this summer

Completely agree.

“Mercurial” is the word to describe Kasey.

He absolutely needs to work on his consistency, but he’s an asset to the team.

A discussion board would be a boring place if none of us had opinions.

I like Palmer, he's done well to stay fit for most of the season and I think he has a place in the team but I also think we'll need better if we want promotion.

I'm torn on KP.

He's often inventive, he often puts in the effort and tackles harder than you'd expect, and he often has a strop on the pitch and rants whilst the opposition then break and we become a player light. If he could get rid of that toddler tantrum side of things he could be good rather than decent, but all things being equal I'd rather have him as the AM in the starting XI than Jamie Allen.

And that’s all this thread is trying to say really. He is actually the best in the squad at an important area of the game for his position and deserves recognition of that fact. I don’t buy the lazy complaints, all modern players throw their hand up these days, O’Hare spends half his game on the floor pleading with the ref while the game continues. He’s not perfect, but he brings something others can’t and it’s valuable.

I don't like this debate on whether he's good enough/ not good enough and that should be the basis on whether or not we keep or sell the lad.
Is Kasey a top 6 Championship player? i don't think he is, is Kasey Palmer a top 8th-14th level of a player? yes.
If we go and look at West Brom, Norwich and the sides with a successful record of getting into the top 6 season after season, they all have Kasey Palmer level of players that come into the side when required and sit on the bench when the better player is available.
We absolutely need someone better than Kasey Palmer but we need Kasey Palmer in our squad.

Not for me Clive, gives the ball away far too easily and often.
good luck to the guy but we need better to improve next season and we can definitely improve on him.

I am aware Kasey Palmer has driven divided opinions among the City fans.
For me he is an exciting player, always on the front foot looking to make something happen, and one of my favourite players. I can understand the frustration that some feel though.
Key that we can extend his contract.

Last season his stats were: (All Competitions)
Played: 37
Goals: 4
Assists: 8

His performances at Leicester & Wolves were sublime (no assists or goals though).

He got 2 goals 4 assists in the league which is nowhere near good enough and we should be looking to shift him off his expensive contract.

I've said on a previous thread about Palmer, aside from his stats being awful, if you look at his impact when a game is in the balance it is even worse. I think he has only ever scored a goal to break the deadlock, equalise or get a winner in a League game once (Blackpool at home a couple of years back).

He’s unlikely to be a starter this season even before we conclude our transfer business and will be let go after his contract expires next season. Good role player to have in the team.

I like him as a person and useful for team spirit. No doubt has skill but needs to focus more and isnt always effective enough.

I hope he stays and Mark and the new backroom staff can just improve his focus on what's needed in games and they he would be invaluable.

My biggest concern with KP is that he cant last a whole match. The second biggest concern is that he doesn't track back enough, especially after one of his own flick type moves hasn't worked.

Kasey Palmer has no end product. Absolutely none. Original poster mentions his performance against Wolves was sublime, but if he could take a half decent shot he could have had 2 or 3 goals in that game.

He's not going to get a new contract here unless he performs to a higher level consistently.

Others have summed it up - no harm in him being around until next summer from our POV.

If someone wants him and / or he wants more than the bench, he can leave now and we'll be fine.

Shame as there's a lot to like, but it is what it is.
