Sorry for the delay replying - the epetition website says: "To create or sign an e-petition, you must be either: a British citizen or a resident in the UK (you normally live in the UK)".
I took Smouch's post as meaning he lived in Australia but he'd been able to sign - I guess what he means was he's an Aussie citizen living in the UK so he was able to sign. Just as a UK citizen living overseas can sign. So I think I was right in the first place ie a non uk citizen not living in the uk can't sign
Hi,
I have noticed this petition has started to slow down and with only 16000 signed this is going to be a struggle to get the 100, 000 we need.
I was wondering if its worth putting a petition on here.
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/
In this way we target a wider audience and everybody receives an email. I receive weekly email from this company every since I signed a petition about 3 years ago so I no this would be an option worth looking at.
The ban tom cleverly petition has got 11500 signatures in a week , can we hijack that petition as people seem to take that more seriously
So 450 in the last 5 days, 90 per day, and slowing.
The rate from here needs to be about 250 per day to hit the 100k before the cut off. Done in my head so apologies if its a bit wayward.
Michael - your work is admirable but is it worth the hassle of fighting this losing battle? Not anywhere near enough people give a shit.
I think that just illustrates the attitude of Liverpool fans.
Average now slowing to 40 per day. Even if this rate remained stable the total numbers by the cut off would be about 30,000.
It has probably been discussed elsewhere in the previous 54 pages but is it not possible to ask people to sign paper copies and add that to the total?
I can only speak for myself but unless it was an issue I really care about (for example this one) I would be very unlikely to take the time to log onto an email link, fill in the details, then have to click on the email response to confirm the vote. Too much hassle. Whereas there are probably loads of people in Coventry that have enough passing interest to take the time to sign a bit of paper wafted under their noses in town. Just a thought.
How is that any easier? I would have thought if anything that would be even more of a hassle. You go in town to shop or look around. Parking is expensive. It is going to take much longer to sign by hand than online. I would have thought that might even be illegal. You are going to need tables to sign on, then you get back to the insurance issue again.
Like I said, it may have already been discussed here. But for the man on the street who has only a passing interest in the cause it is much quicker and less hassle to scribble your name and address down on a bit of paper that is thrust into your face in town than it is to take the time to log onto your PC at home and find it, fill it in, then confirm it from an email taht is sent to you.
I would have signed a petition in support of the Hull name change if somebody asked me to sign in the street, it would take 10 seconds. I don't care enough about their cause to go out of my way to do it online.
How are they going to give you their details? Handing out leaflets is one thing police wont look twice. But to sign you need a table. That means effectively running a stall on a public highway. That means permission from the council, making the police aware, getting licences and public liability insurance.
Besides do you honestly think you can get 80K plus people to give you their personal details? with 47 weeks left that's about 1,500 people a week! and you can only really do it on a weekend!
I just do not see how you can get there using leaflets!
What is the gameplan?
Perhaps I wasn't clear. I didn't suggest that this method would generate 80K, I said it may help boost the current rate that has now pitifully flagged to about 40 per day. I also stated in my first email that I was unsure if the issues involved in trying to seek signatures in the street had been discussed. You clearly seem to be an expert and understand the legalities of such an approach and apparently it isn't feasible.
Which basically leaves the existing campaign in a quandry imo because nobody bar a small number of us give a flying fuck about the club. In a city of 300K+, only around 15K give a shit enough to log onto a PC and sign up. By this weekend the rate of progress will probably be down to 20 per day.

For anyone not going to Colchester, we'll be handing out fwww.FixFootball.co.uk leaflets 8 March 10am by Next at the Ricoh Arena shopping park. Extra help would be very welcome!
Happy to help, ill be there just before 10
Just signed it.
Good luck coventry from a leicester fan
i was listening to radio 4 last night & a bloke from the 'blues trust' (B'ham City), was being interviewed, in depth, about football ownership,
may i suggest that it would be an idea to engage them, with regard to the petition
I walked down there at about 11.15, saw a big boat and ice cream van but no flyers or anything?
This e-petition has received the following response:
As this e-petition has received more than 10 000 signatures, the relevant Government department have provided the following response:
The government is aware of the challenging circumstances Coventry City FC fans and understand the frustration that supporters of Coventry must have about the temporary relocation.
The Westminster Hall debate in October aired many of the concerns of supporters, MPs and the wider Coventry community. The Minister for Sport subsequently met with the Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP and Jeremy Wright MP, and has pursued their concerns with the Football League.
The Football League take the matter of Coventry City returning to their home city very seriously, and have undertaken to keep the Minister informed of progress. The Club have committed to returning to Coventry within 3 years, with the FL holding a bond to this effect. We support all parties in their effort to develop and articulate that plan, to give confidence to the fans and wider community.
More broadly, the football authorities have made significant moves over recent years to put clubs on a stronger financial footing within their communities. The Football Association Regulatory Authority (FARA) will ensure changes in club ownership are fully scrutinised. Financial Fair Play rules are now in force to encourage responsible spending. Both the Premier League and the Football Association are providing funding to supporter groups such as the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct, and all Premier League and Football League clubs are now required to have a designated Supporter Liaison Officer. This is all welcome progress.
This e-petition remains open to signatures and will be considered for debate by the Backbench Business Committee should it pass the 100 000 signature threshold.
Nice one WestEnd. See you there
WestEndAggro calls fans who go to Sixfields pricks, wankers and fucking idiots. Do you agree with that then michael. If he helps you out then you endorse his attitude, don't you?

I may be repeating old news, but I just noticed the petition has finally got an response
It isn't good enough of course..
Torch, you're better than that. Did you see the challenge I set on the plain talking thread? Unfortunately it's turned into the usual pro/anti sisu/acl argument.
Better than what? Do you want your organisation associated with someone who uses those kind of terms to their fellow fans? It's not difficult really, is it? If you're happy with that and think it's acceptable then fair enough. And if you read carefully you will see it was WEA throwing those insults around.
If you want to waste your time searching for when I've used that kind of language that's your choice but you won't find any cos I've never said anything like that. You're better than people on here who go in for untrue cheap shots and smears. The far more interesting point is the one sentence challenge on how to get us back to the ricoh. Sure you could have a good go at that and far more productive than this

Torch you really are a big baby ,you need to grow up , most people on here have insulted you in some way, shape or form get over it.
By the way Michael is a gentleman and generally so am I , unfortunately I have developed a nasty streak , which seems to develope every time you post, perhaps you could do all of us a favour and diisapear for a very long time
I'm sure you are a gentleman - hence your pacifist choice of username.
