I think he does absolutely understand
He thinks everything bought in the USA should be made in the USA
Now if any country can do this it’s probably the USA given the different climates and access to raw materials.
The issue comes when people in the USA want to buy things they can’t provide for themselves
In the uk we’d be utterly screwed and have needed to live and work globally hence the empire and trying to stay relevant and why leaving the eu as a ecomic bloc was completely mad and we should rejoin urgently I whatever way we can

Will it work? It will in part it’s a massive market with rich people who are greedy and want what they want when they want it and so companies won’t want to lose their slice.

It’s bizarre to talk of reducing tax and then wilfully adding huge taxes on goods that people are purchasing

Can’t get past the corruption and fraud on a whole new scale going on

The world is changing who knows whether it’s for the better

Or he just wants to make chaos and confusion and then revert back to the status quo

Yeah, I'd have been comfortable this was likely after the first time round when he just said a lot and nothing much happened. Feels like he's got even nuttier people than Bannon behind his decisions this time, though. Ideas of that Curtis Yarvin being played out.

Some stores are clearing their shelves of American products, others are marking which products are Canadian. Not sure why Trump thought this would all be a one way thing and he could just do what he wants with no impact in the opposite direction.
Canadian Customers are checking products and if they are sourced in the US they turn them upside down

US automakers build their cars with imported parts, which are also subject to the tariffs. So he’s basically telling them to absorb the extra costs until they reshore all their production.
Wonder how all those small government Republicans feel about all this intrusion from the government telling them what they can and can't do.

Fucking fuck.

While Vance was speaking, Trump shared a video produced by the lobbying group Securing American Greatness, outlining the US interests in Greenland.
The video Trump posted on social media features sweeping shots of Greenland's landscape, as well as archive footage that appears to come from newsreels in the 1940s.
"In the cold silence of the tundra, a bond was born," the narrator begins. The video goes on to describe how the Nazis sought control of the Arctic during WW2, and torpedoed a US ship that was on its way to Greenland to help prevent a Nazi invasion.
Four chaplains gave up their life vests "giving their lives so others might live, to protect America and Greenland," the video says. This refers to the sinking of the SS Dorchester by a German U-boat in 1943.
"But today, Greenland faces new threats - from Russian aggression and Chinese expansion," the narrator continues.
It goes on to say describe the US-Greenland partnership growing with "every Arctic patrol, every partnership forged in the shadow of melting ice and rising tensions."
"This is not just history. It is destiny," as music swells in the background and icebergs are shown on screen.
"Now is the time to stand together again," it continues. "For peace, for security, for the future. America stands with Greenland."

It really is like something from 1984 at this point.

I fear how far they will push it. Van etc yesterday dressed in black like Zelenski and lots of very sincere looking soldiers standing behind.
Margret Atwoods dystopian fiction becoming more like a prediction of the future.

Been saying that for a few years now.

Gilead here we come, if we're not careful. Aren't some schools over there already only teaching creationism?

The free speech champion, definitely not a fascist pig, is now demanding immigrants to turn over their social media accounts if they want to stay in the country.

Recently some of his sycophants on here were insisting that nobody was being deported for criticising the regime. It will shortly be happening.

Ive posted people who were denied entry because of their views this is the next logical step.

Declaring social media accounts in visa applications has been required for nearly 6 years since May 2019, why suddenly all the fuss, why was it not reversed under Biden if it was so insidious?

Ps I was never happy about the policy in the first place but it is not a new thing.

We’ve established you’ll defend anything the orange guy does so a debate on this is pointless.

I said it wasn't a policy I ever agreed with, I did not defend anyone just pointed out the sudden outrage is more about finding offence at everything Trump says or does even if it is consistant with past policy and policy found acceptable by the Biden administration.

This is an expansion of the existing rules which means immigrants who are already in the country legally (and to whom First Amendment rights should subsequently apply) will now have to let the State Department go through their private messages.

While I know that “But Biden” is what often passes for intellectual debate on the right these days, I don’t know why you’d pretend this isn’t a significant escalation.

The change applies to green card holders who apply for permanant residency as I said consistant with earlier policy which I never agreed with in the first place.

You do know UK, EU, Australian and Canadian immigration search social media for applicants status too.

I hate all these rules and restrictions in the name of 'National Security' myself but don't attack me for something I have no control over.

You haven’t criticised anything the orange man has done so far. Are you also applying for permanent residency?

You declare them in case you do something and they need to track you, this is to prevent you from entering.
