This is all on Southgate, the players are good enough, he isn't. Foden with 27 goals and 12 assists last season but none of either at the euro's, Southgate doesn't know how to get them playing as a team.

Talked often about using the whole squad yet the following hardly played:

Trent
Gordon
Wharton
Watkins
Toney
Palmer

2bh I’ve been critical of Southgate in this tournament - I don’t think there’s a lot he could have done.

Spain were the better team. And Walker went AWOL for both goals.

forger dropping Kane - that would have been suicide, there’s no manager dropping the European golden boot winner who’s also leading the golden boot in the tournament.

Such a shitter, wasted another good opportunity. Sadly yet again we were not brave enough on the ball. But clearly lost to a better team so less gutting than Italy or France last time out.

Was baffled with all the aimless punting. The one time we kept it on the deck and pass quickly we get a goal. Then right back to passing it back to Pickford to slam it long again 😞

The ref can fuck off with so litlle injury time. Should have been more than 4 mins. Then they only played about 2 of those the amount of rolling about the Spanish did.

Urgh. Needs a shake up, can't think of a realistic replacement for Southgate at them moment.

He was going to bring on Gallagher and atrippier just before they scored. It was awful decision making.

Would be happy with Klopp but also would like Potter if we go English.

Yes he was rubbish at Chelsea but that was a basket case at the time.

He plays the modern style of high pressing, exactly what we need and exactly how (most of) the players are used to playing.

Southgate is a tactically very old school and the game has left him behind somewhat.

A few players come out of this tournament with a bit of credit for me; Palmer, Mainoo and Guehi mainly.

We need to find a way to integrate Palmer into the side full time, he’s a gem and still so young. Should’ve had at least one start this tournament

Guehi is a brick wall at the back, still a little raw, but he’ll be top class in time.

Mainoo will be different level in 2 years time.

I wouldn’t give Southgate another tournament. He’s hit his ceiling, his negative football gets found out against better sides, and only reacting when things go wrong, which is often too late. He also looks checked out.

If you could be sure of Klopp in a year, I’d hold tight. If you couldn’t, then Potter or Howe would be next best.

Yep Potter for me. Feels wrong to go non English. Especially after how Southgate has fixed the culture in the dressing room we don't want a massive revolution.

As you said Potters time at Chelsea can't be judged too harshly. That clubs ran by a nutter and their fans didn't take to him.

I'm sorry but there can't be any justification for Southgates performance in this tournament . He's just said Kane was injured and not fit going into the tournament, so why start him in every game ?
And the bizarre selections ?
Foden player of the season and a game changer in the 10 or false 9 , yeah put him left wing
Bellingham la liga player of the season who's greatest strength is travelling with the ball and his box to box ability , yeah stick him at 10 and negate his game
Trent a game changer at RB or RWB with his range of passing and attacking intent , yeah stick him alongside Rice

You can't keep making excuses for a manager so scared of losing he won't ever fully commit to winning

Don’t disagree with a lot of that but Spain were by far the best team in the tournament and tonight. Second half they stepped it up and we couldn’t really live with them. Yes, Southgate should been braver with the subs but I always felt Spain had another gear. Certain players looked leggy and didn’t perform at their level. Still got a bright future though and losing finalists is nothing to be ashamed of

If Cucurella was at a random Spanish team and had that tournament everyteam in the Prem would be after him. The fact he’s considered a meme by Premier League watches is crazy

World class player and we didn't play to his strengths . He plays like an old fashioned number 8 , yet we negated all his physical attributes and played him too high up the pitch because Southgate is obsessed with two number 6s
I’m sorry but he’s absolutely smashed it out the park for Madrid as a 10

whilst I do agree he’s an 8, Bellingham can play higher up

I know people are very passionate about England and that’s totally understandable, real shame and frustrating

but I’ll be over it by the morning, interesting how different individuals see club vs country

roll on four weeks time

safe trip home to the sba that travelled
Club every time for me , only two England managers in my lifetime have ever engaged me and that was Sir Bobby and El Tel
