Actually , to really understand how bad Gareth Southgate has been , or lucky for the better word

Check out his overall record against top nations
Nobody can seriously say the bloke is a good manager

Couldn't give a fuck tbh, never get excited for England, only watch the tournaments.

Got excited for the semi and final last year but who didnt.

Weird cus when it comes to Cov I've shed tears, screamed in elation, celebrated, been distraught you name it

England im just 'ah well'

Gareth Southgate £5m per year plus bonuses - probably explains why he spouts stuff like this

Lots of good individual performances. I personally thought the performance is a step in the right direction

Unlucky.

I ended up having a nibble on Italy/draw no bet at 5/4 so least got some additional betting tokens to back the Krauts with on Monday. 😆

Should have held my nerve and backed them right out. They were 10/3 to win just before they scored. 😫
At least I got money back on Italy/draw@8/15.

Shall do my four draws tomorrow as a lucky 15
Bristol rovers v Accrington
Barrow v Leyton Orient
Hartlepool v Gillingham
Sutton v Salford

Yeah agreed. Would rather cov win a league cup game than England win a tournament, really not bothered. Also no point in sacking Southgate this close to a tournament. Probably has to go after though

Damning assessment from Henry Winter

The FA will not get rid of Gareth Southgate, certainly not on the eve of a World Cup and certainly not with executives having so much personal credibility tied up in his doing well, but the governing body is surely finally beginning to realise that he is not a great tactician, his in-game management lacks decisiveness and he risks wasting a good generation.

Everyone focuses on this run of three defeats in five matches now, no wins in five, no goals from open play in 450 minutes and relegation from tier A of the Nations League, but this slide began in the European Championship final last year when Southgate failed to respond to Roberto Mancini’s second-half changes. People are waking up to a painful situation that has been unfolding for 14 months. It’s not a bad dream, it’s a grim reality.

I did say this during the Euros. People said it was fine to be playing for mind numbing tedium as we were getting away with it. Sadly though poor football will always eventually turn into poor results.

I can't remember the last time we played well to be honest. It's been a series of games now with very lacklustre performances and a lack of cohesion.

The commentators said it quite well as having become conditioned to play negatively and that Bellingham who hasn’t really played much for Southgate hadn’t succumbed to that yet.

My biggest concern is that this crop of players is just going to be wasted. That’s why he needs to go as soon as possible. Don’t wait for the formalities of an early World Cup exit.

Del piero even said our players have no freedom
That's it in a nutshell. No freedom to express themselves. And that is daft when you have flair players.

Players like Sterling and Sancho and Saka and Grealish and to a degree, Bellingham, thrive on having a bit of freedom to play their natural game.

I think we have to play Toney on Monday. The result now doesn't matter. We need to try something different. The worry is, he will put Mason Mount back in, who has done next to nothing for England.

Like who? Kane is the only world class player in the squad whose window is closed by the time USA 2026 comes around.

We have a fine crop of young players coming through. I don't think anyone has any idea whatsoever what level they will be by 2026.

None of our attacking players last night were particularly suited to each other’s game. Sterling was awful for slowing down attacks, Kane dropping so deep that at one point he was wearing the keeper top. Needs a huge rethink. Make far more use of the wing backs in an attacking sense as well.

Oh and Pope isn’t an international keeper. He’s absolutely awful on the ball.

Sacking Southgate before the World Cup is a fantasy. His overachievement in the Euros was always going to buy him the chance to have a go at the World Cup. Even if he was fired, you’re not going to get a new manager bounce at international level - look at Spain in the last World Cup.

You can be concerned if Southgate gets us through against the 'might' of Wales, USA and Iran, squeaks through another round, and the FA don't sack him afterwards. The talent, whilst left under the current set up, could well be wasted. For me it stems from the amount of the game wasted p*ssing about at the back with players whose main aim seems to be 'not being the one to give the ball away'. The result is the ball being at the wrong end of the pitch for long periods, with those players pre-occupied with not losing the ball, rather than being part of a cohesive attacking unit. The lack of urgency to 'attack' only ever changes when we go a goal behind (by which time they all seem numbed into the style of play, by the hole they have already dug themselves into)
