I agree they don't. I don't think there would be that many upset if Scotland voted to leave the UK. We have taken most of their oil money off them. What other use do some people see them as being?

Not true Scotland receives more per head funding as a consequence of the Barnett formula than anywhere else except for Northern Ireland. It's what has made the flagship policies north of the border financially viable while the likes of North East England gets about half of the money. Though if we want to move back to drawing lines on maps and saying 'everyone on this side is like this and everyone on the other side is like that', let's go for it

Apparently there’s a bit of a split about whether to do it before or after Brexit, I hadn’t heard that one but it’s a possibility.

What isn't true? The Scottish oil money went to the UK government. Now we pay so Scotland gets free prescriptions. But we don't. If Scotland voted for independence they wouldn't get a massive amount of money each year.

They were re-elected in 2017 on the basis there would be no second referendum and they’d back leave. Try telling the voters in Doncaster circumstances have changed when they’ve rejected about 5 versions of Brexit already

When I lived up there I rented a house with a Yes voter. His prediction was that a No vote would happen, the union would limp on for a bit longer then lose a second time round. Seems Brexit will do just that-so pointless.

Presume it’s on the basis that if the remain parties win enough seats they will ensure ‘no deal’ doesn’t happen.

Facts appear to be....

Tories want Brexit done pre election so they could say they delivered and remove risk of Brexit party. Won’t happen now. Best alternative is to accept Lib Dem/SNP proposal and argue ‘vote us back in and we’ll deliver Brexit by end of January on current WA’ - labour can’t deliver this with renegotiation and second referendum promises (and more delay)

labour wanted an election for a long time but when they knew they were unlikely to win a majority they believed best option was to stifle Brexit and government (hoping Johnson would eventually fuck up...not unreasonable assumption !) Corbyn would ideally prefer Brexit done prior to election though to focus on other policies and burst Brexit Party and Lib Dem bubbles.

Makes no sense. They’d be there on Monday but not on Thursday?

I think they both want one this side of Xmas and this prevents the bill being debated. But then Boris doesn’t want it debated anyway.

It’s all very strange.

Guessing he thought deep down it wouldn’t get through without heavy amends/further delays. Not sure I quite agree with his strategy ie if unsuccessful tonight, I’d separate out the election and WAB votes (before 8 Nov)....revised WAB timetable probably wouldn’t get through anyway but at least he could say he had tried
